Beware, not all travel tips are created equal!

Over the years, we’ve learned plenty tips to simplify our traveling experience. From avoiding flights on specific dates to finding the best airport lounges, we’re constantly on the lookout for ways to make traveling easier and more comfortable. But this airport tip that recently went viral will NOT be making its way into our travel plans!

It’s no secret that flying can be a headache. Between flight delays, airport crowds, and the stress of trying to make sure things run smoothly, it can make for a tough day. But even though traveling can be tough, there are some “tips” that we think go too far.

Recently, a LinkedIn post went viral with a travel “hack” that is likely to make you the least-popular person on your flight if you try it. The traveler who made the post claims you should always try to board in Group One, no matter what group you’re actually assigned, saying, “Board in Group 1, no matter your group. 99% of the time they don’t say anything. Worst case they tell you to wait, then you’re first when they call your actual group.”

Okay, we can sum up our thoughts on this “hack” with two words — Not. Cool. The boarding process for flights can already be chaotic, and if everyone goes this route, it can cause more delays and confusion. Disregarding the proper boarding procedure makes things more difficult for both the airline staff AND your fellow travelers.

Lots of commenters on the original post also pointed out the issues with this particular piece of “advice,” with one commenter saying, “If everyone did this, wouldn’t it just be one entire long line to board rather than an organized boarding process? I think just following airline policies is a better idea than acting entitled.”

As frequent travelers, we totally get that flying can be a stressful experience! But be careful about what advice you take to try to make things simpler for yourself — some “tips” like this could end up landing you at the back of the line with side eye from a whole plane of your fellow travelers.
