The Monster Makeover experience at Universal Studios Florida officially opened today, January 31, 2024.

Located inside the Five & Dime in the Hollywood section of the park, guests can make an appointment to be transformed into the monster of their choice. At this time, 37 different styles are available.

Monster Makeover Entrance

A sign outside invites guests into the Five & Dime, reading “Enter here to become a monster today!”

The exterior windows feature displays inspired by the former Monsters Cafe, with one window holding The Monster’s chair, and the other showing off the chair for The Wolfman. It is unknown if these are the originals or just replicas. Both displays also include images of the available transformations.

“Monster Makeover” is on one of the shop’s windows in a font made to look like the letters are dripping.

The registers have been shifted to the right to allow for the entrance, which has a red carpet and theater-style curtains.

A miniature makeup chair is on display as a signholder.

Over the entrance is a theatre-style marquee with an array of lighting beneath. The front of the marquee reads “Monster Makeover” and “Become the monster!” while the side has the multicolored logo.

Makeover Room

There are two makeup stations in the room, which is decorated with Victorian-style furniture evocative of the classic monster movies. On the far side of the room sits a chair and chaise lounge, an end table with a vintage radio and lamp, and a large gilded mirror. Posters are on the wall for “The Mummy” (1932) and “The Wolf Man” (1941), and framed artwork for “The Creature From the Black Lagoon” (1954) hangs beside the mirror.

The station is a warm wood vanity, set with supplies for the artist and a light. More Classic Monsters art adorns the walls, including Frankenstein and The Bride of Frankenstein.

The other station is closer to the entrance and has a white vanity with a similar setup.

Full Face Options – $125

Option 1

Option 1 features skull-esque art with bony features emerging, including a skinless jaw and teeth.

Option 2

Option 2 is Frankenstein-style with all-over green paint and staples over red lines on the forehead. Black makeup is around the eyes, on the cheekbones, and on the lips.

Option 3

Option 3 is in the style of the Bride of Frankenstein with all-over white paint and several lines with staples, accented by black eye makeup and lipstick.

Option 4

Option 4 is a Wolf Man with exaggerated eyebrows and facial wrinkles.

Option 5

Option 5 is another Wolf Man with painted-on hair encircling the face.

Option 6

Option 6 is a vampire-style creature with eyebrow and eye makeup and rivulets of blood down the forehead and cheek, plus a bloody mouth.

Option 7

Option 7 is another vampire with brow ridges, dark eyebrows, eye makeup, and black lipstick. Blood leaks from the corners of the mouth.

Option 8

Option 8 is another vampire with forehead ridges, bruise-style eye makeup, and a bloody mouth.

Option 9

Option 9 has lines like lightning, plus red and black marks similar to burns.

Option 10

Option 10 is another Frankenstein-style look with all-over green paint, scars and staples, dramatic purple eye makeup, and black lip color.

Option 11

Option 11 resembles a zombie with green paint on 3/4 of the face, a section on the forehead that resembles exposed brain matter, and torn flesh around the jaw, exposing teeth.

Option 12

Option 12 has all-over yellow and green facepaint with black accents.

Option 13

Option 13 has white paint from the bridge of the nose under the eyes down to the chin. It resembles a skeletal mask and appears to be attached to the face with nails. The jaw and teeth are exposed.

Option 14

Option 4 resembles an infected person with green oozing from the eyes, mouth, and nose; all-over redness, and oozing pustules.

Option 15

Option 15 features orange and black eye makeup with black jagged lines from the hairline, and a stitched-style design from ear to ear across the mouth.

Option 16

Option 16 has exaggerated eyebrows, dark undereye circles, red lips with dark lines flowing down from the corners, and reddish lines streaked over the face.

Option 17

Option 17 has red, black, and gold eye makeup with lightning-esque scarring down the cheeks and across the forehead.

Option 18

Option 18 has all-over white paint with bright pink lips and cheeks. Black shapes like cracks in a porcelain mask stretch across the face.

Option 19

Option 19 resembles a marionette with doll-esque fake hair paint, rosy freckled cheeks, red lips, and lines around the mouth to resemble the moveable mouth of a puppet.

Option 20

Option 20 is mermaid-esque with all-over paint in a rainbow of colors, plus glitter and scales.

Option 21

Option 21 has a galactic design across the forehead in shades of blue and purple dotted with white stars. Black starry makeup drips from the eyes and the lips are colored black.

Option 22

Option 22 is more generically Halloween with orange and white all-over paint, a large bat on the forehead, small bats underneath black-shadowed eyes, and stitches from either side of the mouth.

Option 23

Option 23 is reminiscent of Día de los Muertos calaveras with an all-over white face and floral eye makeup. A spiderweb is across the forehead and stitches cross over red lips.

Option 24

Option 24 is another that resembles a mask, this time in a more classically Masquerade fashion with swooping designs. Stitches cross the purple-tinted lips which match the eye makeup.

Option 25

Option 25 is a beastly creature with a base of white and blue. Black fur-like stripes frame the eyes. The tip of the nose is red and the black of the lips continues in a curve upward. Blood is smeared around the mouth.

Option 26

Option 26 is a clown with a white base, red nose, exaggerated black lips to resemble a mustache, and green and blue diamonds over the eyes.

Option 27

Option 27 is another clown with a white paint base and blue and pink eye diamonds. The tip of the nose has a spiral and a large curling mouth with sharp teeth covers the bottom half of the face.

Option 28

Option 28 is another clown with a white paint base and exaggerated mouth. A red spiral is on the tip of the nose, and the eyes have blue makeup and wavy brows.

Half Face Options – $65

Option 29

Option 29 is steampunk-esque with a large portion of flesh cut away to reveal gears beneath. Blood drips from the edges of the gash.

Option 30

Option 30 has a blue and green portion of the face, which appears to be stapled on, with fresh blood dripping from the puncture wounds.

Option 31

Option 31 is a half-face design with an orange hue and warped features similar to The Mask or Batman’s Two-Face.

Option 32

Option 32 is a red mermaid-style design with scales and black streaks.

Option 33

Option 33 looks like one side of the face is damaged with scars and blood.

Option 34

Option 34 is a half-skull. It has a white base with black features creating hallows around the eyes and cheeks, and exposed teeth.

Option 35

At this time, option 35 is not available. No sample was available to view.

Option 36

Option 36 doesn’t have any all-over paint areas, just bloody scars held together with staples. The skin around the wounds is reddened.

Option 37

Option 37 is a vibrant silver spiderweb mask over the eyes, outlined in neon purple.

Option 38

Option 38 has heavy black eye makeup, with red smeared and splattered underneath. A black-lined mouth has blood dripping from the edges.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you book an appointment?

At this time, guests can book a transformation in person by visiting the cash register area inside Five & Dime. For now, this is the only way to book, but an online option will become available at a later date.

What products are used?

The products include water-based airbrush paint, alcohol, Telcom powder lipstick, mascara, talc powder, and green marble spray (a setting spray).

What does it feel like?

Universal describes the experience as a “soft, cool air blown on the face” and notes that the makeup smells like green apples.

What do I do during the transformation?

The makeup artists will guide you through the experience and instruct you when you hold or release your breath. You can also let them know if you need a breath.

What should my makeup artist be aware of?

Please let the makeup artist know if you have sensory conditions or allergies to latex, alcohol, talc, or cotton.

How long does it last?

It should last throughout the day but may be affected by eating, drinking, and exposure to water.

How long does it take?

On average, 25 minutes for the half face designs and 45 minutes for the full face designs.

How old do you have to be?

Guests must be age 6+ to participate. Parents may be asked to help position their child.

How do I remove the makeup?

Water and mild liquid soap combined with gentle scrubbing should remove the makeup.
