Scheduled for release sometime in 2024 for Xbox Series X/S and PC, “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” is executive produced by Todd Howard (known for directing “The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim,” “Fallout 4,” and “Starfield”), developed by Machine Games, published by Bethesda Softworks, and made in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games. The newly revealed gameplay footage gives fans their first glimpse at what they can expect from the title.

Set between “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and “Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade,” “The Great Circle” begins with Indiana Jones working at Marshall College when he hears a thief in the college museum, and thus the mystery begins. Indy will travel to places like Italy, The Forgotten Temples of Ducati, Egypt, and the Himalayas. Gamers will have to use their minds to come up with clever solutions during gameplay, just like Indy does.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Troy Baker provides the voice and motion capture for Indy. Baker is best known for his role as Joel in “The Last of Us” game franchise, among other credits.

Players will also meet a second protagonist, Gina, an investigative reporter who counts on Indy as an ally in the mystery; and Emmerich Voss, the villain obsessed with manipulating others. The game has a mix of adventure and action, and Indy’s iconic whip can be used for several different elements of gameplay.

“Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” uses both first- and third-person views, an element that the developers say is crucial to getting across their vision. Edward Curtis Sivess, Senior Narrative Designer of the game shares,

Our game is all about putting you in Indy’s shoes, letting you see and feel what he sees and feels. For us at MachineGames, we do that best through first person. It’s the ideal perspective to bring you into the rich, exciting, and interactive world we’ve built. We believe that being up-close-and-personal to the adventure is key, making each action feel like your own.

Mitra Ashkan Far, Cinematic Producer for “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” details that switching from first to third person allows fans to walk in Indy’s shoes, while also getting a look at the “iconic silhouette[s]” the “Indiana Jones” franchise is known for. Read her full statement below:

Whether it’s cracking your whip, solving puzzles in ancient temples, or seeing your knuckles go bloody in a fist fight, all of these moments are much more intense in first person.

But we still want you to have those moments, seeing his iconic silhouette with a hat and the whip, and so for things like cutscenes and environmental traversal, we pull the camera back for third person view.

Music for the game has been composed by Gordy Haab, who was tasked with capturing the magic of composer John William’s original “Indiana Jones” score. Haab also composed the score for other Lucasfilm-related video games, including “Star Wars: Battlefront II,” the “Star Wars: Jedi” franchise, and “Star Wars: The Old Republic.”
