Okay, is it just us, or are TV shows getting canceled left and right?
We’ve seen Disney cancel shows that never even made it to air. We’ve seen ABC drop several shows, including long-running ones. A popular show on Apple TV+ just recently got canceled. But now we need to talk about one streaming subscription service that canceled a TON of shows in the past year.
That streamer is MAX, which has canceled a total of 12 shows over the past year. The platform, which was previously known as HBO Max, has been through a bit of an overhaul since Warner Media merged with Discovery, creating Warner Bros. Discovery. Some of those changes included canceling many popular shows, including The Flight Attendant, which has officially been confirmed as canceled by The Hollywood Reporter after two seasons.
The Flight Attendant starred Kaley Cuoco as a flight attendant sucked into the world of spies after waking up to find a dead man in her hotel bed. The series was based on a novel by Chris Bohjalian. The series was considered a break-out hit for HBO Max and was given a second season. Reportedly, a third season was being considered, but Cuoco, who also served as an executive producer on the series, did not wish to return to the role.
Cuoco received two Emmy nominations for her role in the series. The show also received a nomination as Best Comedy after its first season.
“What started out as an attention-grabbing book cover quickly evolved into an extraordinary flight of a lifetime,” Cuoco said in a statement. “I always envisioned TFA as a limited series and thanks to an incredible creative team, we were able to deliver two thrilling seasons. Personally, playing Cassie has been a dream come true and I am so grateful for everyone who played a part in bringing this extremely original series to life.”
According to Vulture, this cancellation comes hot on the heels of three other cancellations at Max, including Julia, Rap Sh!t, and Our Flag Means Death. Over the past year, though, EW reported nine other shows were canceled at Max, too, including Avenue 5, Doom Patrol, Gossip Girl, The Other Two, Pennyworth, Sort Of, South Side, Titans, and Warrior.
