An incident happened at Tokyo Disneyland after a major earthquake occurred on Monday, January 1st, 2024. Here’s what we know.

According to ABC News, Japanese officials issued a tsunami and evacuation warning after an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.5 struck around 4:10PM. According to U.S. Geological Survey data, the epicenter was located on the Noto Peninsula, along the Sea of Japan — which causes concern regarding a potential tsunami.

According to Reuters, 100,000 citizens were then ordered to evacuate the area, and thousands were left without power. One fatality has been reported.

A Tokyo Disneyland visitor shared this footage on X of the effects that occurred at the Disney Park, 8.5 hours away from the epicenter of the earthquake. Tokyo Disney hasn’t announced any operational changes as of now, and it seems like the parks will continue to be open as normal.

According to an updated article from ABC, the initial earthquake was followed by a series of others — which caused Japanese officials to raise the highest level of tsunami warning. A few hours later, the warning was lessened, but citizens were instructed to not go home.
