Now is your chance to take the helm, as a new Pirates of the Caribbean photo opportunity is available in Disney’s PhotoPass Studio at Disney Springs.
Pirates of the Caribbean Photo Opportunity
This new setup, themed around the Magic Kingdom attraction, was first announced on the Disney PhotoPass and Disney Springs Instagram accounts on January 27, 2024. The location previously had a Haunted Mansion-themed photo opportunity. You can find it in the Marketplace at Disney Springs.
The Pirates of the Caribbean photo studio setup gives the appearance of being on the beach with a pirate ship in the distance. The props include vegetation, treasure chests filled with gold coins, the helm of a ship, large rocks, a cannon, a pirate flag, and shipping containers.
Guests can get behind the helm and give their best pose, or get their hands in the treasure chest of gold, just as Captain Jack Sparrow would do.
Goods labeled VOC, a.k.a the Dutch East India Company, rest on the floor.
A PhotoPass photographer was on hand to take photos of guests in the portrait studio. The photos taken at this location will be included with a Memory Maker purchase. A one-day Memory Maker is $75, an advanced purchase Memory Maker is $185, and a during-and-post-vacation Memory Maker is $210.

Additionally, artists and crafters specializing in Galactic Starcruiser and Black Spire Outpost art, cosplay items, props, and more will be available throughout the multi-day event, and many aim to bring exclusive items with them that you will ONLY be able to get at Halcy-Con! The celebration doesn’t stop when the daylight ends! Several onsite nighttime activities and entertainment options are planned to keep the party going into the night. PHEW! EPCOT might just be our favorite Disney World park for one reason: the food!
EPCOT’s France Pavilion
Okay, you have some AMAZING table service restaurants like Le Cellier and Garden Grill. Then there is all the food at the seasonal festivals (and we’re currently enjoying eats from the EPCOT Festival of the Arts). EPCOT also has some great counter service locations, although we’ve got one that’s our favorite. Well, two of our favorite things to get for lunch just got…cheaper? You don’t hear that very often in Disney World!
One of those lunch items is the Croissant Jambon Fromage, which is Ham, Cheese, and Béchamel in a Croissant. The price of this item recently DECREASED from $8.95 to $6.50. Y’all, that’s a lunch you can grab in Disney World for under $7 now!
Croissant Jambon Fromage
But wait…because ANOTHER of our favorite lunches is the Quiche Lorraine at Les Halles. It’s a quiche made with Ham and Gruyere. SO good. Well, that price also dropped from $7.95 to $6.50. Yep, so now that’s TWO Disney World lunches under $7. THANK YOU, DISNEY!
Quiche Lorraine
Pretty awesome, right? A few new items have been added to the menu here, too, including Patisserie a l’abricot for $4.95, which we WILL be trying out soon (so watch out for that review).
We love this place!
Anyway, sometimes prices do go DOWN in Disney World, and sometimes, it means we save a little money on lunch. We always keep an eye on menu changes in Disney World, so stay tuned to DFB for more.

Also, in Anaheim, Disney announced that they will commit to spending $2.5 Billion with DisneylandForward. This will be for new hotels and park attractions that could include offerings based on “Black Panther,” “Coco,” “Frozen,” “Zootopia,” “Tangled,” “Peter Pan,” “Toy Story,” and “Tron.”
As part of the possibilities for Disneyland and Walt Disney World, ‘Avatar’ Producer Jon Landau visited Walt Disney Imagineering to ‘Talk About Future’ last week. We’ve already heard hints that a Pandora experience is in development for the West Coast, and it could mean expansion or at least changes to Pandora at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Knott’s PEANUTS Celebration kicked off this weekend at Knott’s Berry Farm, where fans of all ages join Snoopy and the PEANUTS gang as they stage a park takeover with plenty of excitement and family-friendly fun. Steamboat Willie at the Pixar Short Film Festival at EPCOT
The classic, black-and-white Steamboat Willie version of Mickey Mouse can now be used by ANYONE without permission from Disney, and it didn’t take long for horror movies, video games, and more to start using that version of Mickey for their own artistic licenses. However, the funniest use of public domain Mickey so far might be coming from John Oliver, the host of Last Week Tonight.
Recently, John Oliver promoted the return of his show Last Week Tonight on February 8th with a photo of himself with someone in a Steamboat Willie Mickey costume with the headline “What are they gonna do, sue?”
We’re back February 18th, and we’re pretty sure this was an okay way to let you know about it!! Ya, probably fine. pic.twitter.com/rcF5KweIZi
Previously, Oliver has tested the limits of what he could do with Mickey Mouse on his show, with Mickey saying some pretty vulgar things. According to Deadline, Mickey’s last appearance on the series was on December 17th. It’s likely that Oliver is now going to have a LOT of fun at Mickey’s expense. In fact, Oliver references Mickey’s last appearance on the series, saying, “Did Disney ever sue us over that?” Then, Mickey replies, “Nope,” with Oliver countering, “So, should we take that as a green light that we could do whatever we want in the future?” Then, MEAN Mickey replies, “I don’t see why the f*** not.”
For those who are curious to see just WHAT Oliver has in store with Mickey, the show returns to MAX on February 18th, so mark those calendars. We’re sure it will be provocative (but also HILARIOUS).
Several other uses of public domain Willie are in progress, including a new merchandise collection from art collective MSCHF, a daily webcomic called Mousetrapped, SEVERAL horror movies, a video game, and more. We’re sure we’ll see more projects, though.
Stay tuned to DFB for more news!
