New Pirates of the Caribbean Photo Opportunity at Disney’s PhotoPass Studio in Disney Springs

Now is your chance to take the helm, as a new Pirates of the Caribbean photo opportunity is available in Disney’s PhotoPass Studio at Disney Springs.

Pirates of the Caribbean Photo Opportunity

This new setup, themed around the Magic Kingdom attraction, was first announced on the Disney PhotoPass and Disney Springs Instagram accounts on January 27, 2024. The location previously had a Haunted Mansion-themed photo opportunity. You can find it in the Marketplace at Disney Springs.

The Pirates of the Caribbean photo studio setup gives the appearance of being on the beach with a pirate ship in the distance. The props include vegetation, treasure chests filled with gold coins, the helm of a ship, large rocks, a cannon, a pirate flag, and shipping containers.

Guests can get behind the helm and give their best pose, or get their hands in the treasure chest of gold, just as Captain Jack Sparrow would do.

Goods labeled VOC, a.k.a the Dutch East India Company, rest on the floor.

A PhotoPass photographer was on hand to take photos of guests in the portrait studio. The photos taken at this location will be included with a Memory Maker purchase. A one-day Memory Maker is $75, an advanced purchase Memory Maker is $185, and a during-and-post-vacation Memory Maker is $210.

This EPIC Star Wars Fan Event Sold Out Within HOURS! Here’s How You Can Get on the Waitlist.

If you were left feeling a bit empty since the closure of the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser hotel, we’ve got some news to share that may lift your spirits!

Crowds in the Galactic Starcruiser’s Atrium

Star Wars fans have flocked to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disney’s Hollywood Studios to leave touching tributes to the Galactic Starcrusier since its final voyage, but a new Star Wars fan event may be just the thing to bring us all back together and reminisce (if only for a few days).

A new 2-day event has been announced for Star Wars fans! According to its website, this event was created “for the superfans, by the superfans” and will be known as Halcy-Con. However, it is important to note that this event is truly fan-led and not an official Disney-endorsed event.

©Halcy-Con

Halcy-Con is set to be a “boutique playground of various fun and informative activities, all created and hosted BY Galactic Starcruiser superfans FOR Galactic Starcruiser superfans.”

A cabin on the Starcruiser!

Space for this event was limited (just like it was onboard the cruises) to just 500 attendees, so we weren’t surprised to see tickets quickly SOLD OUT! If you’d like to hop on their waitlist, you can do so by clicking HERE. The event is set to take place on October 4th & 5th, 2024, and will cost $130 for guests ages 7 and older.

The event is set to be held at the Wyndham Orlando Resort and Conference Center, which is just minutes away from Walt Disney World in Kissimmee, Florida. Those looking to attend and prefer to stay on-site at the hotel can book a room through the special room block provided to Halcy-Con participants through the link on their website. The room block opens availability as early as  Monday, September 30th, through Tuesday, October 8th, 2024 (a total of 3 days before and after the event for those looking to extend their experience). If you’re booked using the special room block for Thursday, October 3rd, you are also invited to a special pre-event “Halcyon Homecoming” fan mixer at the hotel that evening!

Halcy-Con promises to be an event like no other! Attendees are encouraged to propose event panels, exhibits, and activities. Several activities already lined up for the event include:

  • Superfan-created panels/exhibits
  • Special photo opportunities
  • A cosplay showcase
  • Armor-building demonstrations
  • Droid-building demonstrations
  • Prop crafting demonstrations
  • Live-event chalk mural creation
  • Sabacc lessons & tournaments
  • Ryloth Slide flash mobs
  • Beginner & advanced lightsaber training
  • Saja-inspired meditation
  • A fan-film showcase
  • A greenscreen area to make fan film shorts
  • AND MUCH MORE

If you’re looking to submit your own attendee proposal, your idea will be evaluated by the event team to determine safety, feasibility, and legality.

Additionally, artists and crafters specializing in Galactic Starcruiser and Black Spire Outpost art, cosplay items, props, and more will be available throughout the multi-day event, and many aim to bring exclusive items with them that you will ONLY be able to get at Halcy-Con! The celebration doesn’t stop when the daylight ends! Several onsite nighttime activities and entertainment options are planned to keep the party going into the night. PHEW! There’s a LOT planned for this fan event.

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser

This certainly sounds like an inventive and fun way to interact with Star Wars fans! Make sure to keep your eyes on that waitlist if you didn’t get tickets. And be sure to stay tuned with us at Disney Food Blog for even more updates and news!

🚨ALERT: Two of Our Favorite EPCOT Lunches Just Got CHEAPER!🚨

EPCOT might just be our favorite Disney World park for one reason: the food!

EPCOT’s France Pavilion

Okay, you have some AMAZING table service restaurants like Le Cellier and Garden Grill. Then there is all the food at the seasonal festivals (and we’re currently enjoying eats from the EPCOT Festival of the Arts). EPCOT also has some great counter service locations, although we’ve got one that’s our favorite. Well, two of our favorite things to get for lunch just got…cheaper? You don’t hear that very often in Disney World!

Okay, so we know that sounds impossible because we’re always reporting on price increases, especially for food, in Disney World. Recently, though, the price of two of our GO-TO lunches in EPCOT just went down.

Les Halles

So where are these lunches? Well, they’re in EPCOT’s France Pavilion at Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie

One of those lunch items is the Croissant Jambon Fromage, which is Ham, Cheese, and Béchamel in a Croissant. The price of this item recently DECREASED from $8.95 to $6.50. Y’all, that’s a lunch you can grab in Disney World for under $7 now!

Croissant Jambon Fromage

But wait…because ANOTHER of our favorite lunches is the Quiche Lorraine at Les Halles. It’s a quiche made with Ham and Gruyere. SO good. Well, that price also dropped from $7.95 to $6.50Yep, so now that’s TWO Disney World lunches under $7. THANK YOU, DISNEY!

Quiche Lorraine

Pretty awesome, right? A few new items have been added to the menu here, too, including Patisserie a l’abricot for $4.95, which we WILL be trying out soon (so watch out for that review).

We love this place!

Anyway, sometimes prices do go DOWN in Disney World, and sometimes, it means we save a little money on lunch. We always keep an eye on menu changes in Disney World, so stay tuned to DFB for more.

Disney dining changes are a lot to keep up with! We’ve done all the research for you in writing our DFB Guide to Walt Disney World Dining! We’ve got details on EVERY dining location at Walt Disney World inside our eBook – and it’s easy to download to your tablet or smartphone to take with you on your next trip. WATCH PARKSCENTER — Saying Goodbye to the Country Bears at Magic Kingdom and Looking Ahead to Disneyland’s Future

Join us live tonight, Sunday, January 28th, at 9:00 p.m. ET, or watch ParksCenter anytime on WDWNT.TV.

We are updating you on all of the big things happening in the Disney Parks each week! We cover the top stories in Disney Parks news and discuss the topics that are top of mind for the Disney community. All in 60 minutes! Join us live and chat along at 9 p.m. ET.

Gimme a little intro there, Gomer.

Friday was the last showing for the Country Bears as we know them. Now, we look ahead to what they have planned for us later this year. Our panel shares fond memories of the original show and predicts what will be in store for the bears when the Country Bear Musical Jamboree takes the stage.

Over at Disneyland, the Lunar New Year celebrations are now in full swing. We will share thoughts on all the offerings, including the new Turning Red meet and greet taking place just for this event.

Also, in Anaheim, Disney announced that they will commit to spending $2.5 Billion with DisneylandForward. This will be for new hotels and park attractions that could include offerings based on “Black Panther,” “Coco,” “Frozen,” “Zootopia,” “Tangled,” “Peter Pan,” “Toy Story,” and “Tron.”

As part of the possibilities for Disneyland and Walt Disney World, ‘Avatar’ Producer Jon Landau visited Walt Disney Imagineering to ‘Talk About Future’ last week. We’ve already heard hints that a Pandora experience is in development for the West Coast, and it could mean expansion or at least changes to Pandora at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

We’ll also look at the full list of food and beverages coming for Celebrate Soulfully 2024 to Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort, catch up on the Pixar Place Hoytel as it prepares for its Grand Opening, discuss the latest passholder perks for both resorts, and another edition of “It Came from the Parks!”

Join us for all of this tonight on ParksCenter!

Watch PARKSCENTER Live at 9:00 P.M.

Also, our WIGS members receive an interactive post-show each week, exclusive to our Patreon program.

Check out a recent episode of the show below.

ParksCenter is broadcast live on YouTube every Sunday, now at 9:00 p.m. ET.

A MEAN 🫣 Version of Our Favorite Disney Character Now Exists Thanks to Public Domain Laws

At the beginning of 2024, Mickey Mouse became public domain — or rather, one version of Mickey Mouse did.

Steamboat Willie at the Pixar Short Film Festival at EPCOT

The classic, black-and-white Steamboat Willie version of Mickey Mouse can now be used by ANYONE without permission from Disney, and it didn’t take long for horror movies, video games, and more to start using that version of Mickey for their own artistic licenses. However, the funniest use of public domain Mickey so far might be coming from John Oliver, the host of Last Week Tonight

Recently, John Oliver promoted the return of his show Last Week Tonight on February 8th with a photo of himself with someone in a Steamboat Willie Mickey costume with the headline “What are they gonna do, sue?”

Previously, Oliver has tested the limits of what he could do with Mickey Mouse on his show, with Mickey saying some pretty vulgar things. According to Deadline, Mickey’s last appearance on the series was on December 17th. It’s likely that Oliver is now going to have a LOT of fun at Mickey’s expense. In fact, Oliver references Mickey’s last appearance on the series, saying, “Did Disney ever sue us over that?” Then, Mickey replies, “Nope,” with Oliver countering, “So, should we take that as a green light that we could do whatever we want in the future?” Then, MEAN Mickey replies, “I don’t see why the f*** not.”

©Last Week Tonight

For those who are curious to see just WHAT Oliver has in store with Mickey, the show returns to MAX on February 18th, so mark those calendars. We’re sure it will be provocative (but also HILARIOUS).

©Disney

Several other uses of public domain Willie are in progress, including a new merchandise collection from art collective MSCHF, a daily webcomic called Mousetrapped, SEVERAL horror movies, a video game, and more. We’re sure we’ll see more projects, though.

Stay tuned to DFB for more news!
