From a new Princess Tiana Tiara Pin to indulging in “Cooking with Soul” items, and meet and greets with Ariel, Tiana and Asha, there are a variety of ways you can “Celebrate Soulfully” at Walt Disney World this Black History Month!
One Walt Disney World trespasser wasn’t very festive at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party in the Magic Kingdom.
He made a scene that led to his dramatic arrest in front of hundreds of people there to watch the holiday parade.
On November 22, a day when the special ticketed party was happening, 56-year-old Robert Raimondo entered the Magic Kingdom without having a ticket, according to a newly released Orange County Sheriff’s arrest report. (We’re writing about it now because it took the sheriff’s office months to release the public document.)
Raimondo was told to leave the park but wouldn’t go, the arrest report said.
Law enforcement got involved.
Local deputies and Disney security tried to escort Raimondo, who is from Calabasas, California, out of the Magic Kingdom, but he began arguing. Tensions ran high.
“Security Manager Chris Grubman stated Mr. Raimondo has been rude the whole time and wanted him out of the property immediately. Deputies on scene advised Mr. Raimondo to stop stalling and make his way out of the park immediately,” a deputy wrote in the arrest report. “Mr. Raimondo argued instead of following orders in which I lightly place my hand on his shoulder advising him to leave. Mr. Raimondo then turned around and began placing his hand on my shoulder, still not moving.”
“I grabbed his arm and told him to place his hands behind his back. At that moment, Mr. Raimondo began screaming, “My back,’” the deputy wrote. “Mr. Raimondo chose to make a scene where hundreds of people were standing for a parade in which myself and additional deputies escorted him to the ground in order to secure him. While on the ground, he continued to refuse to put his hands behind his back.”
Raimondo, who complained of back pain, eventually got up and was taken to a security office.
The Walt Disney World firefighters checked Raimondo to make sure he was okay. He was then taken to the Orange County Jail. He is charged with trespassing and resisting an officer without violence, which are both misdemeanors, according to Orange Circuit Court records.
Earlier this month, Raimondo pleaded not guilty. His attorney did not respond to a request for comment.
Disney’s Beach Club Resort at Walt Disney World has a few new merchandise items. We found a new sunhat, mug, Tervis tumbler, and magnet in the resort’s gift shop, Beach Club Marketplace.
Beach Club Hat – $34.99
This is a straw hat with a wide brim lined in teal fabric. It has a tan chin strap wrapped around the front of the hat and threaded through holes beneath the brim.
A patch for Disney’s Beach Club Resort is on the front. The patch is white with an embroidered teal border. A peach-pink umbrella is pictured in the center above a blue wave.
The underside of the brim is lined in a teal blue fabric featuring images of the resort’s buildings and beaches. “Disney’s Beach Club Resort” is printed in white throughout the pattern. It also features Mickey and Minnie enjoying the resort’s amenities.
The buildings are blue with pink rooves. Serenity Bay and Beaches & Cream are both marked on the cartoon map. Minnie is sitting on a beach under an umbrella while Mickey lounges on a beach chair. There are also pictures of treasure chests and seashells.
Beach Club Mug – $19.99
The stoneware mug features the same diamond-shaped Beach Club Resort logo that’s on the hat’s patch. The mug itself has a gradation from blue to white from top to bottom.
On the opposite side of the mug is a colorful umbrella. “Beach Vibe” is in orange lettering beneath the umbrella.
The inside of the mug is solid blue. It’s hand wash only.
Tervis Tumbler – $34.99
The Tervis tumbler is plastic with a transparent cup and a matte blue lid. The cup features solid white stripes. On one side is an image of Mickey and Minnie enjoying a Beaches & Cream sundae. It reads “Everyday is Sundae” around them.
The tumbler is 24 ounces.
Beaches & Cream Magnet – $12.99
The magnet resembles the Beaches & Cream Soda Shop sign and matches previously released Beach Club merchandise. It’s a teal green semi-circle with blue stripes. A pink Mickey ice cream cone is in the center. “Beaches & Cream” is on a blue border topped with pink bulbs and “Soda Shop” is in black below. “Disney’s Beach Club Resort” is in black along the bottom of the magnet.
