Though “Jurassic World Dominion” was supposedly the last film in the “Jurassic World” franchise, another is currently in development with David Koepp writing the screenplay. The Hollywood Reporter exclusively broke the news.
“Jurassic World 4”
Koepp wrote the original 1993 “Jurassic Park” film and its first sequel “Jurassic Park: The Lost World.” Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley, who produced all three “Jurassic World” films, will also produce the new film. Steven Spielberg, who directed the first two “Jurassic Park” films, will executive produce via Amblin Entertainment.
Sara Scott, Executive Vice President of Production Development, and Jacqueline Garell, Creative Executive of Production Development, will oversee the project at Universal Pictures.
A director is not yet attached, but the script is far enough along that Universal is considering a 2025 release date.
The film is referred to as a new “Jurassic World” movie — not “Jurassic Park” — but will launch a “new Jurassic era.” This implies characters from the previous films won’t return, at least at first.
“Jurassic Park” starred Sam Neill as Dr. Alan Grant, Laura Dern as Dr. Ellie Sattler, and Jeff Goldblum as Dr. Ian Malcolm. Goldblum returned for “Jurassic Park: The Lost World,” while Neill starred in “Jurassic Park III” and Dern made a brief appearance.
The three “Jurassic World” films starred Chris Pratt as Owen Grady and Bryce Dallas Howard as Claire Dearing. BD Wong returned from “Jurassic Park” in a recurring role as Dr. Henry Wu. Niell, Dern, and Goldblum joined Pratt, Howard, and Wong for “Jurassic World Dominion.”
“Jurassic World Dominion,” directed by Colin Trevorrow, was the third highest-grossing film of 2022 after “Avatar: The Way of Water” and “Top Gun: Maverick.” All three films surpassed $1 billion.
“Jurassic Park” made $914 million worldwide and was the highest-grossing film of all time until the release of “Titanic” four years later. It was an adaptation of the 1990 novel of the same name by Michael Crichton. Though there have been several films, Crichton only wrote one sequel: “The Lost World.”
How do you feel about another “Jurassic World” film? Let us know in the comments.
