The “Hurry Home” Lunar New Year pre-show has returned to “World of Color – ONE” at Disney California Adventure for the 2024 celebration. The show, performed at 9:00 p.m. each night, follows a lost lantern who encounters Mulan and Mushu.
Hurry Home Lunar New Year Pre-Show
The tag’s score is composed by Academy Award winner Tan Dun. It’s a six-minute show, incorporating the lagoon’s fountains, water screens and projections, and fireworks.
The main character of “Hurry Home” is a red lantern with a long tassel.
Mushu has always been featured in “Hurry Home,” but his presence is even more thematic this year as it is the Year of the Dragon. The lunar year will officially begin on February 10, 2024.
The Lunar New Year Celebration at Disney California Adventure began on January 23 and lasts through February 18. “Hurry Home” will be performed each night of the festival.
During “Hurry Home,” Mulan helps the little lantern find its way home to its family.
The show ends with another appearance by Mushu, as well as “Happy New Year” projected in different languages.
Lunar New Year is commonly called “Chinese New Year,” but it’s celebrated in multiple countries and cultures that use the lunar calendar. Lunar New Year is commonly celebrated in Vietnam, Singapore, and South Korea, in addition to China.
“Chúc Mừng Năm Mới” is “Happy Lunar New Year” in Vietnamese.
New year phrases also appear in Chinese characters.
Then red and gold fireworks go off. The color red symbolizes good luck and fortune. It’s the main color associated with the Lunar New Year.

It’s no secret that Marvel stars are paid large sums of money to bring our favorite superheroes to life. However, it could certainly be a bit shocking to see one of their paychecks mistakenly sent to you. That was exactly the case for actor Tom Hollander. During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Hollander […]
The floating candelabra has been removed from the Endless Hallway scene of the Haunted Mansion at Magic Kingdom but is set to return.
Floating Candelabra Missing
The candelabra usually appears to float by itself at the far end of the Endless Hallway. The scene is near the beginning of the ride before guests reach Madame Leota’s seance room. The Hatbox Ghost was installed beside the Endless Hallway in November.
The floating candelabra was also missing from Hatbox Ghost concept art released before the new audio-animatronic was installed, sparking speculation it would be removed. However, the floating candelabra was still present when the Hatbox Ghost materialized.
Cast Members told us the floating candelabra will return, but we don’t know when. Compare the photo above, taken on January 23, 2024, to the one below taken when the Hatbox Ghost was unveiled on November 30, 2023.
The floating candelabra is just barely visible floating in the hallway to the right. You can also see it floating in our brightened photo of the Hatbox Ghost below.
The Hatbox Ghost is the biggest update to The Haunted Mansion at Magic Kingdom recently, but there have been other minor changes, too. The Candleman originally designed by Rolly Crump for the Museum of the Weird at Disneyland was recently added to The Haunted Mansion. One of the ride’s “Donald Duck” chairs, also inspired by a Museum of the Weird piece, was removed to make way for the Hatbox Ghost. The remaining chair is in the library scene. Madame Leota also got an updated hairstyle last summer.

Who says Disney World has to be just for the humans?
Best Friends Pet Resort!
While the parks are for humans only (other than service animals), many locations around Disney World property are actually pet-friendly! If you can’t bear the idea of leaving your furry best friend at home, you can always bring them with you on your next Disney trip. We’re big fans of pets at DFB (we often have a “furry friend Friday” with the team!), so we wanted to share our guide to bringing your non-human family members to Disney World.
Best Friends Pet Hotel
Perhaps, you were unaware that there is a special hotel just for pets in Disney World! The Best Friends Pet Hotel helps to create magical experiences for your furry, four-legged friends (and more).
The pet hotel offers lots of great services for your pets and can make your (and their) vacation a little easier. Here is a list of everything the Best Friends Pet Hotel offers!
Transportation
The cool thing about the Best Friends Pet Hotel is that you don’t even have to take your pet there — they’ll pick them up! The hotel offers transportation for a round-trip fee of $25!
Pets of all kinds, cats, dogs, and pocket pets, can stay overnight or join daycare at the pet hotel! You can choose from indoor or outdoor standard rooms, villas, and luxury or club-level suites. There are several pages worth of options for your furry friend.
You can also see all the accommodations that each room type comes with such as a patio, webcam, walks, playtime (group or private), and even direct messaging!
Their goal is to ensure your best friend is comfy and safe! They will even board your parakeet!
Doggy Day Camp
Your doggo can do what dogs do best — PLAY! After an initial interview to ensure your four-legged friend is a good fit, you can pick from a membership package that spans from 6 days to unlimited camping.
Your puppy dog can have their best day “playing, snacking, napping, and loving life”. The daycare is available Monday through Saturday. You can schedule an interview right on the hotel’s website!
Grooming
We should really have titled this section “Spa Day” because that’s what your pets can have at the Best Friends Pet Hotel. The hotel’s grooming slogan says it perfectly, “From a bath to a full day of pampering, our groomers will make your pet “paw”sitively gorgeous!”
There are so many options for pampering your pet! There are packages from the Royalty Package to the UnTangled Package and many more. You can get basic grooming services like baths, brushing, and haircuts and select from a variety of fun add-ons from nail trims to facial scrubs. Just head to their website to book your pet’s spa day.
Pet-Friendly Hotels
While you can keep your pet overnight at Best Friends Pet Hotel, there are a few pet-friendly Disney World hotels. The list is short, but it is always an option if you prefer your extra family member stay with you! The following 4 Disney World hotels allow pets:
Disney’s Art of Animation Resort
Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — Riverside
Disney’s Yacht Club Resort
The Cabins at Fort Wilderness Resort
We love taking our pets with us everywhere, and Disney World can be very accommodating of your furry family members! Check out Disney’s and Best Friends Pet Hotel’s websites for more information and to make reservations.

Do you bring your non-human family members with you on vacation? Let us know in the comments!
While we love being at Disney World on vacation, we sometimes can’t ignore other major life happenings while we’re away.
Toy Story Land crowds
When certain special events, like the Super Bowl, only come around once every year, it’s a big deal to a lot of people. With so many folks investing in their favorite teams playing, who’s going to win it all this year, and even just watching to see the commercials and half-time show, a lot is riding on being able to see it all while it plays out in real-time.
Magic Kingdom
Since Disney World doesn’t typically close, you may find yourself scrambling to take a little bit of time out of your long days in the park to unwind, sit down for a bit, and enjoy the game… but where do you have a place to do that inside of Disney World? Don’t worry, we’ve got thoughts!
Rix Sports Bar & Grill
This first option we have to recommend may feel like a no-brainer. It’s literally written into the name of the place.
Rix Sports Bar & Grill
Rix Sports Bar & Grill could be the optimal spot for you because they’re going to have it all! Not only will they have T.V.’s around to watch the game (maybe from multiple stations), but they’re also equipped to offer you light bites and beverages so you won’t have to leave through the whole game.
Inside Rix Sports Bar and Grill
If this sounds ideal to you, you can find this spot at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort right across from their main quick service location, El Mercado de Coronado. We’re going to warn you about this one though, it can get full quickly since it’s a smaller restaurant — if this is a spot you want to claim, come early!
Lounges with TVs — Crew’s Cup, Belle Vue, & Geyser Point
Hotel lounges could be optimal, too!
Crew’s Cup Lounge
Several of the Disney World hotels (mainly the deluxe category) will have smaller lounges that would be a prime spot to enjoy the game. Just to name a few of our favorites, The Crew’s Cup Lounge at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort and the Belle Vue Lounge at Disney’s Boardwalk Inn Resort has a smaller space outfitted with T.V.s that will help keep you in the zone with the game and not so distracted by everything else going on.
Geyser Point is an outdoor lounge that is outfitted with several tables and longer padded seating like patio furniture that might be a bit more comfy to you if you plan to be there through the whole game.
It’s a larger restaurant that’s got massive T.V.s that are clustered together and may be able to offer the best viewing experience of them all. This is also another solid choice because of the obvious reasons. Here, you’ll be able to grab more food than just a light appetizer and drink all while enjoying it from a booth or table seat.
Hotel Pool Bar (If they’ve got a T.V.)
This one is a bit unconventional but could work if a T.V. was brought out for the occasion.
Banana Cabana Lounge and Pool Bar
It doesn’t hurt to stop by the front desk of your Disney World hotel and ask if (and where) they’ll be showing the Super Bowl. Hear us out, if there’s a T.V. brought out near the hotel’s pool bar, that could be an ideal spot, especially if you’re visiting with family.
Hotel pool bar
Everybody wins if the rest of your crew can dive in for a swim close by while you’re trying to keep from missing the biggest game of the season!
Hotel Room
Stating the obvious, if you really want to make sure you’re not going to miss a moment of the action, you can always opt to watch the game from your Disney World hotel room.
Your own room!
The T.V.s in the room are outfitted with several local channels and will be easy to switch back and forth between stations to your preference rather than relying on the restaurant to play your favorite. If you’re looking to be in control of what you’re viewing, this is probably the option you’ll want to line up!
Your Own Phone
We get it, you’re torn. Disney World is expensive and sitting inside a room or taking time away from your family to sit inside a lounge or restaurant doesn’t sound ideal. What’s the next best compromise? Well, you’ll be watching from your own phone!
Choosing this option allows you full control of what you’re watching, when, how often, and how loudly (hopefully with headphones) if you’re going to remain in the parks. This option certainly wouldn’t keep you from being able to go about the rest of your vacation as you typically would AND could give you something to pass the time while you’re waiting in lines between rides.
Be sure to stay tuned with us at Disney Food Blog and follow along for more Disney World fun!

Crews are working on the pavement around CommuniCore Hall and Plaza, as well as on the new building’s walls. CommuniCore Hall is part of the years-long reimagining of EPCOT.
CommuniCore Hall & Plaza Construction
CommuniCore Hall and CommuniCore Plaza are located in World Celebration, at the edge of the gardens that opened in December. Some walls of the new building feature Spaceship Earth-inspired paneling. Some of the panels are colored instead of white, creating more depth in the facade.
Construction walls currently jut out into the sidewalk between World Celebration Gardens and the World Showcase bridge, although there is a gap that guests can walk around. Behind the walls, the pavement has been torn up to be replaced.
Two long awnings and white light poles frame CommuniCore Plaza. The plaza will be a new location for live music performances and more. Currently, EPCOT utilizes World Showcase Plaza at the other end of the bridge for such entertainment.
The awnings are supported by white poles. There are still exposed steel frames where the final paneling has not been installed on the walls.
The slanted white light poles sit in planters in the plaza.
CommuniCore Hall and Plaza replace a festival pavilion originally planned for World Celebration. CommuniCore will include areas for festival activities, as well as a permanent Mickey & Friends meet-and-greet space.
We saw several crew members working on a wall facing the plaza. It looks like they’ve installed new black paneling. Below them, a section of the wall is covered in white sheathing.
More crew members were on the ground in that area. The wall directly facing the Walt Disney World Monorail track is plain white.
On the other side of the white wall, more crew members were working on wall paneling. This side faces Journey of Water Inspired by “Moana,” the park’s newest attraction part of World Nature. Though CommuniCore and Journey of Water are right next to each other, they are part of different lands.
This wall is covered in black sheathing with holes in it. The pathway between CommuniCore and Journey of Water opened with the gardens.
There are some white walls between CommuniCore and the World Nature restrooms. These walls feature a triangular pattern also inspired by Spaceship Earth.
Though Journey of Water is open, work also continues around the attraction’s water station. A short concrete wall runs between the water station and the construction walls. The water station is hidden from view on the ground by palm trees and other elements that match Journey of Water.
A crew member was working on the ground next to a red concrete wall that ends at rockwork. The ground he was crouched on has been covered with a steel framework before concrete is poured.
Another crew member was working on a wooden wall that looks like it will connect to another wooden wall outlining a path to the water station. This space is directly behind the Moana meet and greet.
The white wall creating a corner around a planter is for the new bypass through this area. The pathway leading from the EPCOT entrance to The Seas With Nemo & Friends closed earlier this month, so guests once again have to enter the park by going beneath Spaceship Earth. This new pathway will lead from just beyond Spaceship Earth into World Nature.
