Construction is trucking along at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, the attraction set to open late this year in Disneyland. Take a look at the latest updates we’ve spotted in the park.
Not much has changed on this portion of construction since our last update in late December 2023. Notably, there is a new small portion of scrim that has now been put up.
Gray plaster is covering a good portion of the new mountain top that will eventually be covered in foliage, like we’ve already seen in the “Tiana’s Bayou Adventure” construction progress at Walt Disney World. The Disneyland construction of the attraction is notably behind its Walt Disney World counterpart, with its former attraction, Splash Mountain, having closed months after the Splash Mountain in Walt Disney World shut down for good.
Down below, in the flume area that will eventually be filled with water, large portions of the walls have been removed.
Upon closer look, you can see some of the structure that is just behind those walls.
One of the most notable changes is a new large bit of metal work that has appeared since our last visit. Based on the concept art, this could potentially the location of the Tiana’s Foods water tower that will take permanent residence outside of the attraction.
More of the Splash Mountain facade is being removed and altered with each visit. Here, a portion has been cut out and covered with plastic sheeting.
While quote a bit of work is left to be done on the exterior of the attraction, guests were recently giving their first look at what they can expect on the interior of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. You can read more about the indoor scene, here.
The Future of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
The reimagining of Splash Mountain into a “The Princess and the Frog” attraction at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World was announced in 2020, and the Tiana’s Bayou Adventure name was revealed in 2022.
The attraction will pick up after the events of “The Princess and the Frog.” In 1927, Tiana founded the Tiana’s Foods co-ops, which is located in a salt mine, where cultivators grow crops along the waters. During Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Tiana and alligator Louis venture into the bayou to find animal friends. They’re preparing a special Mardi Gras celebration for the people of New Orleans.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will feature 17 new characters, including Prince Naveen’s younger brother, Ralphie. The Splash Mountain track will remain, but the attraction will get new set dressing and new audio-animatronics. There will be multiple Tiana audio-animatronics, and she will sport a new adventuring outfit.
Disneyland has already seen major changes that will make way for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. In September 2023, Tiana’s Palace, a counter service restaurant inspired by Tiana’s restaurant in “The Princess and the Frog,” opened its doors.
