As we say hello to 2024, construction on CommuniCore Hall and Plaza continues. The new EPCOT venue was supposed to open in 2023 but has been delayed to this year. It will include a permanent Mickey & Friends meet and greet space, demo kitchen, gallery, and mixology bar.
CommuniCore Hall Construction
During our visit last Friday, December 29, 2023, we saw a few crew members actively working on the building.
This wall does not have its final paint and paneling yet, but crew members were working on a section with small metal rectangles sticking out of it, presumably for theming.
More crew members were working on the roof and ceiling above these walls.
Some spouts for fire sprinklers have been installed in the ceiling.
Two crew members were removing the orange net fencing from around this section of the roof.
In addition to the sprinklers, wiring also hangs from the ceiling for future lights.
Ceiling tiles still need to be installed in this area.
Around the corner is the Spaceship Earth-inspired wall, covered in triangular white panels.
There are also some colored panels, which add extra depth and diversity to the design.
Wires stick out of some of the framework and some of the flat panels have writing, including numbers, on them. It looks like labeling for paint, possibly with a paint-by-numbers system we’ve seen during previous construction projects.
There are still a few empty spots where panels have yet to be installed.
This area will be the entrance to the Mickey & Friends meet and greet.
The strips of yellow near the tops of the construction walls outline the future entryway.
The top and side of this wall have already been covered in the final black paneling.
The wall facing World Nature has another kind of plywood paneling.
It seems like almost every exterior wall of the building will be different.
From the pathways leading to World Showcase, we can get a better view of the CommuniCore Plaza area, which is surrounded by diagonal light columns.
This roof will cover an otherwise outdoor walkway. One wall and columns have been painted white.
It looks like a piece of roof paneling is missing from the corner.
Further into the construction zone, we saw three crew members on scaffolding under a higher section of roof.
Another couple of crew members were in a scissor lift working on the edge of the roof.
