Guests taking a ride on the Disneyland Railroad will have one less entry and exit point, as the New Orleans Square Railroad Station is temporarily closed for refurbishment.
New Orleans Square Railroad Station Refurbishment
News of the refurbishment has been posted to the Disneyland site, with a special notice reading:
The New Orleans Square station is temporarily closed for refurbishment, but the Disneyland Railroad is still operating. Please check back here for updates.
The walls are still up on the radio house building that caught fire in December of 2022, but now, additional work walls have gone up on the platform.
The Disneyland Railroad is currently operating as normal, making stops at all four stations — Main Street, U.S.A., New Orleans Square, Mickey’s Toontown, and Tomorrowland — however, when the train stops at New Orleans Square, guests are advised to remain seated, as no one can enter or exit at the station. The reason the trains continue to stop at New Orleans Square Station despite it being closed is so that the locomotives can take on water, and so that the three trains on the line remain evenly spaced out.
The train exit stairs at the back of the platform remain unwalled as they are still being used by Cast Members and Queenie and the Jambalaya Jazz Band, who come in and out across the station.
Continuing off the platform, scrim and more construction walls have been put up as the refurbishment takes place.
The walls wrap around the back of Tiana’s Palace and continue all the way around to the Haunted Mansion work walls featuring the attraction’s changing portraits that have gone up as the ride undergoes a grounds expansion.
A sign notifying guests of the closure reads:
New Orleans Square Railroad Station is currently unavailable. To enjoy the Disneyland Railroad, please visit Mickey’s Toontown, Tomorrowland, or Main Street, U.S.A. ADA accessible stations are located at Mickey’s Toontown and Tomorrowland.
Additional signs advertising other things to do in the New Orleans Square area are posted on the construction walls. This one suggests a stop at the Mint Julep Bar.
Another sign provides directions to restrooms, Pirates of the Caribbean, Tiana’s Palace, and Hungry Bear Restaurant.
This sign lets guests know the shopping and dining along Royal Street and Orleans Street remain open during the New Orleans Square Station construction.
Finally, another sign suggests guests make stop at Royal Street, perhaps to do some shopping at Port Royal Curios and Curiosities.
The refurbishment is likely also connected to the extensive work underway at the Haunted Mansion. The attraction is receiving a grounds expansion including an extended outdoor queue with gardens, a greenhouse, a fountain, and a gazebo. A new themed store is also under construction. Themed construction walls with a “Corruptible Mortal States” gallery of lenticular art have been installed.
