Kali River Rapids History
In 2023, Kali River Rapids closed on January 9 for its annual refurbishment, reopening on February 26, nearly three weeks ahead of its scheduled March 17 re-opening date. For the 2022 season, the attraction closed on November 1, 2021 and reopened on January 4, 2022.
Located in the Asia section of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Kali River Rapids is a high-thrills whitewater river ride where guests are all but guaranteed to get wet. The ride includes lush vegetation, a fast-moving trek on the rapids, and a plummet down a 20-foot slope.
Kali River Rapids first opened nearly a year after the rest of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, on March 18, 1999. During development, it was known as Tiger Rapids Run. It’s themed to the Chakranadi River in Karnataka, India.
It has a height requirement of 38 in (97 cm). Rider switch/child swap is available. There are lockers located at the ride’s entrance for belongings you don’t want to get wet.
