As invited media, Disney provided WDWNT with a $100 gift card for food and beverage for the EPCOT International Festival of the Arts, so some of the following coverage was hosted. As always, WDWNT will still provide our honest thoughts on all below.
The Wonderful Walk of Colorful Cuisine is a food scavenger hunt that takes place during the EPCOT International Festival of the Arts. In your festival passport, collect stamps as you purchase specific dishes. Should you purchase at least five of the snacks, you’ll receive a complimentary, tasty prize. Let’s take a look at the items on the Wonderful Walk this year, so we help you figure out which ones are the best.
Wonderful Walk of Colorful Cuisine Menu
The Deconstructed Dish
Deconstructed Key Lime Pie: Flexible Key Lime Curd, “Key Lime” Mousse, Graham Cracker Cake, and Meringues – $6.50
This was top tier. A perfect balance of tart and sweetness, and the presentation allows you to distribute ingredients as you wish. The cake is moist and flavorful, a highlight for us. You get a nice serving size, and it also takes a great photo. We’d rate it a perfect 7 out of 7.
Figment’s Inspiration Station at the Odyssey: Art, Food, and Little Sparks of Magic
Blueberry-filled Pastry Tart with purple icing – $4.75
This isn’t very pretty looking, and the icing is messy. It looks just like a Pop Tart and tastes like one too, or at least, a generic brand version that doesn’t taste as good. It’s very doughy and quite dry. The blueberry flavor isn’t too strong, and the dough takes over the moisture from the blueberry filling. We don’t recommend this, and rate it a 1 out of 7.
Vibrante & Vívido: Encanto Cocina
Chorizo and Potato Empanada with turmeric aïoli and annatto aïoli – $6.75
This is the best savory dish of the event. It is a massive portion, stuffed full of well-cooked potatoes and chorizo. The sauces add a spicy kick that is not too intense for any palate. An EPCOT snack that can be truly filling. Highly recommended. We would give it a perfect 7 out of 7.
Gourmet Landscapes
*NEW* Verjus-roasted Beets with goat cheese, petite lettuce, blackberry gastrique, and spiced pecans – $5.50
The highlight of this dish is the combination of the roasted beets and the accompanying cheese. Though it’s not hearty, we think this is a great little dish. We’d give it a 5 out of 7.
Deco Delights
*NEW* Neapolitan Dessert Trio: Chocolate tart, vanilla bean cheesecake, and strawberry mousse – $5.25
The chocolate tart has a nice flavor, but the outer shell takes away from that flavor. The vanilla bean cheesecake is a returning item, and we think it’s a winner. The cheesecake is very rich, and the shortbread cookie underneath is quite good.
The strawberry mousse has a hard outer shell that we don’t love, but the strawberry flavor inside is subtle and sweet. We would rate the entire trio a 5 out of 7.
Pop Eats
Tomato Soup with Grilled Cheese – $5.75
This was basically a homemade grilled cheese, made with white and yellow cheddar cheese on white bread. It comes with tomato soup in a cute can themed to the Food Studio. The soup isn’t too tomato-y or watery. It’s more like a bisque, with a thick layer of cream on top to cut through the acidity of the tomatoes. You can probably skip this unless you really want the souvenir plastic can. We rate it a 3 out of 7.
Tomato Soup with Pimento Cheese, Bacon, and Fried Green Tomato Grilled Cheese – $6.50
This dish has always been good, though this version elevates it even higher in our esteem. It’s probably the best version of this dish that we had even though they’ve had it in the past three years.
There’s more tomato in this dish now having both a tomato soup and the fried green tomatoes in the grilled cheese, but it definitely works. The fried green tomatoes are delicious. The pimento cheese adds a nice flavor to the dish. It’s also nicely toasted. We would return and get this dish again and again, and rate it another perfect 7 out of 7!
Wonderful Walk of Colorful Cuisine Prize
Once you’ve collected all five stamps in your festival passport, you can go to Deco Delights on World Showcase Promenade near Port of Entry to redeem your completer treat.
Just like last year and previous years, the Wonderful Walk of Colorful Cuisine prize is an adorable palette cookie. It’s a standard shortbread cookie with thick, sweet frosting. We would rate it a 4 out of 7.
Also just like last year, a second treat is given alongside the cookie. This mixed berry smoothie is a little tart, but good. You also get a cute souvenir cup to take home, which is a positive. We’d rate it a 5 out of 7.
