The Unexpected Reason To AVOID Disney World in February

If you want to visit Disney World during a less busy time of year, we’ve got something you might want to hear.

First, there really isn’t an “off” season in Disney World anymore, especially in 2024. Then, the Disney Dining Plan is returning, and Disney is already offering a FREE dining plan deal to those booking a trip during the year. Then there’s the return of all-day park hopping, which might entice some folks back to the parks who haven’t been in a while. A lot of people have also been waiting for Park Pass reservations to go away, and that’s happening for most visitors this year, too. But February, in general, could be a month you’ll want to avoid.

We already warned you about one event taking place in February that could impact Disney World crowds. On February 4th, the NFL Pro Bowl is being hosted at Camping World Stadium in Orlando. We can imagine that a lot of people visiting for that might add on a Disney World trip, too.

Well, ANOTHER February event that doesn’t even HAPPEN in Orlando could also bring bigger crowds to Disney World. Mardi Gras is on February 13th, and in Louisiana, most kids are out of school during that week. According to 97.3 The Dawg radio station, a LOT of those kids’ families are going to be making trips to Disney World.

Mardi Gras Celebration at Port Orleans

That means the week of February 13th could bring even MORE crowds to Disney World this year. Orlando is just a quick flight from New Orleans and about a 9-hour drive for those who want to road trip it. It makes sense that some families would want to skip out on the chaos of Mardi Gras in Louisiana, but they may be creating crowds in Disney World instead.

Let the good times roll!

Disney World doesn’t go ALL out for Mardi Gras, although you will usually find a celebration, complete with Mardi Gras floats, at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter. Mardi Gras-themed snacks may also pop up around Disney World, too.

Now, exactly how MUCH this could impact Disney World crowd levels remains to be seen, but we’ll be keeping an eye out for crowds around that time and report back. Stay tuned to DFB for more.
