From now through April 7, guests at Tokyo DisneySea will get to experience two alternate versions of Tower of Terror that amp up the scares.
The months-long event, which typically takes place during the park’s slow period, will be broken down into three separate time frames. The first two will introduce guests to two special versions: “Tower of Terror: Level 13” and “Tower of Terror: Level 13 ‘Shadows of Shiriki.’” The third time frame will be fan-voted.
From January 9 through February 4, guests will experience “Tower of Terror: Level 13,” where they can enjoy Tower of Terror with more thrills than it usually has.
From February 5 through March 6, “Tower of Terror: Level 13 ‘Shadows of Shiriki’” will take over, which gives guests the chance to experience the horror of the curse of “Shiriki Utundu” more than ever before. For those unfamiliar, in Tokyo DisneySea’s Tower of Terror, Shirki appears as a cursed idol that serves as the antagonist to the attraction’s story.
During the run of those two versions, guests will be given the ability to vote on which one they enjoy more. Then, from March 7 through April 7, the version with the most votes will return.
The updated experiences increase the thrills, with more drops and effects added to the attraction. The Tokyo DisneySea version of Tower of Terror — opened in 2006 — is notably more mild than the one guests may be used to at Walt Disney World. It also features a completely unique story that takes place in the Hotel Hightower, centering around Society of Explorers and Adventurers member, Harrison Hightower III. It’s Hightower’s stealing of the aforementioned Shiriki Utundu that triggers the curse that guests experience during their ride on the Tower of Terror.
Set in New York in 1912, guests are taken on a tour of the infamous hotel where their elevator ride takes an unexpected turn.
