We know it’s inconvenient if you’ve booked a Disney World vacation way ahead of time and then you get there to find out your favorite ride is closed.

Sometimes, we do get SOME notice about ride closures in advance, although some rides close temporarily due to technical issues. Refurbishment schedules are also something to consider, and some rides end up having lengthy refurbishments (aka maintenance, touching up, etc.) that could last months. Well, we’ve got an update on one such refurbishment.

We previously told you that Kali River Rapids in Disney’s Animal Kingdom would close for refurbishment starting on January 8th.

Well, we now know just how long this ride will be closed in Disney World. According to the Disney World website, Kali River Rapids will be closed until at least mid-March. That’s a closure of a few months.

This is pretty common for the earlier months of the year when you see cooler temperatures in Disney World, so guests aren’t as excited about the water rides in the parks. You don’t really want to get soaked when it’s only 50 degrees outside!

Kali River Rapids is also just one of many closures at this time. Some other closures include a short refurbishment for the Skyliner, a lengthy closure for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in Hollywood Studios, and a brief closure for Big Thunder Mountain in Magic Kingdom.

So what should you do if you’re in Disney World and your favorite ride is closed? Well, you don’t have many options if it’s for something like a refurbishment. You could try to find a similar ride or re-organize your priorities to add something else to your daily itinerary. Maybe you’ll have a chance to discover a new favorite ride in Disney World. This is also why we recommend checking the Disney World calendar before your trip so you can plan accordingly before you arrive.

So what should you do in Animal Kingdom instead? Well, you could visit the nearby Maharajah Jungle Trek and see REAL tigers. Or maybe take in the Feathered Friends in Flight! show that is EXTREMELY underrated. Want another boat ride? Na’vi River Journey might not be quite as exciting, but it certainly has its moments (be sure to take some time to appreciate the Shaman animatronic).
