According to authorities, the crashes involved the same vehicle.
Anaheim police received multiple calls: the first reported a hit-and-run on Harbor Boulevard, just south of Katella Avenue, which involved three pedestrians being hit; the second involved a crash on Harbor at Convention Way, where a woman was fatally injured, per Anaheim Sgt. Jon McClintock to OnSceneTV, a freelance news videographer.
McClintock told OnSceneTV that police believe the driver of the car was also involved in a minor crash involving an OCTA bus in between the two accidents near Disneyland.
Witnesses reported that the car appeared to be a gold or tan Toyota sedan, but a description of the driver was not available. It is also unknown if the pedestrians injured were utilizing a crosswalk when the crash occurred. The woman hit in the second crash was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
One witness, John Bilyk, told OnSceneTV that while he was in the area playing his guitar, he heard a loud gasp and saw “the car drive into a family, striking at least a woman and a child.” The car then turned right from Katella Avenue onto Harbor Boulevard.
Bilyk said he then ran over to see if those injured were okay, but couldn’t get close to them “because there were other people around.” He then saw the car and reported that a man wearing a yellow shirt and blue shorts was sitting in the driver’s seat.
I knocked on the window. He had some vulgar language and gave me a hand gesture and I was almost run over.
John Bilyk, in a statement to OnSceneTV
The driver then backed up into a bus, hit a pickup truck and an SUV, and continued toward Convention Way, according to Bilyk.
According to NBC Los Angeles, the other three victims were taken to hospitals. Two had minor injuries and one had moderate injuries.
Police are currently searching for the driver, per NBC Los Angeles. Those with information regarding the crashes are encouraged to call the Anaheim Police Department at 714-765-1900.
