You just never know when you’ll encounter a weird situation in Disney World!

We’ve seen some pretty strange things in the parks, but this latest mishap that we encountered recently could cost you valuable time during your Disney World trip if you’re not prepared! Here’s how it went.

On a recent trip out to EPCOT, we decided to stop by Crêpes À Emporter by La Crêperie de Paris to grab a quick snack. What started off as a normal stop by a restaurant for a bite to eat turned into quite an adventure!

We hopped into the lengthy line and waited for our turn to order. Shortly after popping into the line, a Cast Member from the restaurant informed us of an issue with their credit card system that was keeping them from accepting debit and credit card payments.

Although their system wasn’t able to take card payments during this time, they were able to accept cash payments and Disney gift cards. Here’s where things really took a turn! We thought, “No problem, we’ll just order an e-gift card through shopDisney,” but after we placed our order for the online gift card, the line started moving up pretty quickly (several people were hopping out of line then) and our online order didn’t have enough time to process and send out the gift card to our email by the time we reached the front section of the line.

So, we ended up canceling that order in favor of picking up a physical gift card from a nearby shop. The closest shop to us in France was Souvenirs de France, and that’s where we encountered an unexpected twist!

The Cast Member at the register informed us they are only allowed to reload existing Disney gift cards at their store and only certain stores around the World Showcase are capable of selling new cards. The closest one to us at this point was World Traveler (by the International Gateway park entrance).

So, off to the International Gateway we went to track down a brand-new Disney gift card to load and activate. Fortunately, we were able to purchase the new card quickly and without any issue (and we were successfully able to complete our snack purchase when we popped back into the line for our crepe!).

The search to activate and load a new gift card was quite an adventure and one that if you weren’t expecting it in advance, could cause quite the hiccup to your day. Knowing what we do now, it’s probably safe to bet we’ll be carrying around a reloadable Disney gift card with us more frequently to avoid these issues in the future!
