So many Disney fans, us included, are so excited for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure to arrive in Magic Kingdom and Disneyland this year.
We know that the ride follows Tiana’s restaurant adventure after the film’s end, as she gets ready to throw a Mardi Gras party for the whole town. But she’s missing the final ingredient and needs help to find it. We’ve also gotten sneak peeks at other aspects of the ride as we get closer and closer to its, currently unannounced, opening date. But there’s one part of the ride specifically we’ve been really curious about, and now we have some commentary on it — what happens after the drop?
According to a reporter for NOLA.com who got a sneak peek at the inside of the new attraction, the first floor of the barn, which is part of the ride’s queue (just as it was for Splash Mountain) has been painted yellow and houses the main offices for Tiana’s Foods, the company Tiana founded after the events of The Princess and the Frog film.
Just outside the barn will be multiple speakers that will broadcast an old-time radio show featuring New Orleans classics performed by multiple NOLA musicians that were gathered by Grammy award winner Terence Blanchard. This will immerse guests further into the art-filled city that is New Orleans.
The loading area of the attraction will resemble Splash Mountain’s, but you’ll see boxes stamped with “Tiana’s Foods” all over. Inside the ride, all of Splash Mountain’s faux vegetation has been replaced with flora native to Louisiana, such as cypress trees and marsh grasses.
This is where guests will start to see all the new animatronics that are being added to the ride, including the Critter band, Louis the Alligator, Tiana, and more. While some may nod to Splash Mountain, “the animatronics in Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will be the latest and greatest, the same high-tech versions used in Hong Kong Disneyland’s recently opened World of Frozen area.”
While many of the rocks, boulders, and other pieces of interior architecture have been retained from Splash Mountain, one set piece that will not be there is the tree trunk that guests saw just before their big drop. It will be replaced by something new. And that’s where the tour stops — because Imagineers won’t show us what’s beyond the drop just yet!
When pressed for details, Imagineer Ted Robledo said, “I’ll just say it’s got a lot to do with magic. It’s a magical moment that happens down there.” If it’s anything like the Disney magic we already experience in the parks, we’re really looking forward to it!
