Streaming services are now at the point where they’re trying to cut their expenses and change their business models to become more profitable.
For example, Amazon Prime and Netflix have both jumped on the bandwagon of offering ad-supported streaming. Disney is also working on making its streaming profitable — it’s what CEO Bob Iger calls his #1 priority. We’ve seen Disney+ cancel some shows, and remove shows from its streaming service library. Well, now even MORE movies and shows have been removed from Disney+ in one region of the world.
According to Deadline, Disney+ has removed more than 120 movies and shows from its subscription service in the EMEA region, which is Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Most of the removed content includes Disney Channel original movies like Zenon, as well as some classic live-action movies, but some TV shows like Pepper Ann and So Random! have also been removed. Even some Nat Geo movies and shows have been taken down from the service.
The shows were removed after Disney reviewed its library title. Some more well-known movies that were taken down include Babes in Toyland (1976), Max Keeble’s Big Move, Return from Witch Mountain (1978), Swiss Family Robinson (both 1940 and 1960 films), That Darn Cat, The Absent-Minded Professor, The Shaggy Dog, The Sandlot, and more.
We’ll have to keep an eye out to see if any more shows and movies get removed from the North American version of Disney+. Stay tuned to DFB for more!
