Respawn Entertainment is developing a first-person “Star Wars” Mandalorian video game, Insider Gaming reports.
Mandalorian Video Game
According to Insider Gaming sources, the Mandalorian video game will be set when during the reign of the Galactic Empire. Players will control a Mandalorian bounty hunter, collecting bounties dead or alive for rewards. It’s not clear who the Mandalorian character will be — if they are a character we’ve met in the “Star Wars” universe before or someone new.
“The Mandalorian” series is set five years after the fall of the Galactic Empire. But it’s possible the game could focus on the life of Mandalorian Din Djarin before the events of the show.
Mobility and style are guiding principles of the game’s development, with the Mandalorian’s jetpack allowing players to perform horizontal dashing, vertical jumping, boost sliding, and more. It will be “very fast-paced,” Insider Gaming sources said. A player’s health will regenerate based on successive kills.
In addition to the jetpack, the Mandalorian will be equipped with gear like a wrist rocket, grapple hook, and a visor for tagging enemies.
The game won’t be open world. It will reportedly have linear levels and players will visit various “Star Wars” planets.
Two years ago, Lucasfilm Games and Electronic Arts announced that Respawn Entertainment was developing three new “Star Wars” games. One of these was “Star Wars Jedi: Survivor,” the sequel to “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.” Another was described as a strategy game being developed in collaboration with Bit Reactor.
The third game was described as a first-person shooter game. Development was being led by Game Director Peter Hirschmann. It’s possible this could be the Mandalorian game.
There are no details about when the game will be released.
This summer, production will begin on the next “Star Wars” film, “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” a follow-up to “The Mandalorian” series on Disney+.
