“The Mandalorian & Grogu” will be the first “Star Wars” film to be shot in California with a $21,755,000 tax credit.
‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ Production
The tax credit is one of the biggest in the California Film Commission’s program history, topping the $20.8 million that “Captain Marvel” was awarded seven years ago, Deadline states.
“The Mandalorian & Grogu” is a movie spinoff from “The Mandalorian.” It’s to be directed by series creator Jon Favreau. The film is estimated to hire 500 crew members, 54 cast members, and 3,500 background players, generating a record-breaking $166,438,000 in qualified expenditures and below-the-line wages.
This also beats “Captain Marvel,” which generated $137 million for the California economy. “Captain Marvel” was partially filmed in Louisiana.
“The Mandalorian & Grogu” will start production on June 17, 2024. Casting has not been confirmed. Pedro Pascal stars in the series as the voice of Mandalorian Din Djarin, with Brendan Wayne and Lateef Crowder performing as body doubles when Pascal is not available to be on set. Grogu doesn’t speak beyond various coos (yet) and is performed by various puppeteers. Katee Sackhoff starred as Bo-Katan Kryze in a recurring role and then main role in seasons 2 and 3.
