There are times when you just KNOW Disney World is going to be SUPER busy.
Let’s look at Spring Break, for example. The weeks that comprise Spring Break always bring LOADS of people to the parks. But the holidays are also a big draw, especially on Christmas and New Year’s Eve. We also see a ton of people in the parks during runDisney events. Then there are sporting events that bring folks to the park — well, we’ve got one of those to warn you about.
Disney World is hosting the AAU Boys’ Basketball World Championships at ESPN Wide World of Sports this summer. So that’s going to bring a lot of basketball players, their coaches, their families, and spectators to Disney World this summer. The boys’ championship events will take place from July 4th through 11th! So, not only will you have the July 4th crowds in Disney World, but you’ll also have sporting event crowds. Let’s just say things are going to be BUSY.
But that’s not all, because just before that, the AAU Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball Memorial Day Classic is ALSO coming to Disney World on May 25th through 27th. So expect that weekend to be extra busy when it brings in everyone for those events PLUS Memorial Day crowds.
Our best advice? If you can steer clear of Disney World during those events, do so. If not (and we get it if you’ve already planned and booked the trip), you’ll need to pack your patience. We’d also suggest grabbing Genie+ first thing in the morning (you can purchase it at midnight on the first day you plan to use it) so you can bypass the long standby lines for rides and access Lightning Lanes.
We’ll be keeping an eye on those crowds, so stay tuned to DFB for more.
