After Disney CEO Bob Iger seemed to call the “Avatar” offering coming to Disneyland Resort a “land,” Disney is still calling it an “experience.”
Avatar Experience Coming to Disneyland Resort
Iger first announced an “Avatar” experience would come to Disneyland Resort during the February 2023 earnings call. He implied the California experience would be a “version” of Pandora — The World of Avatar, the land at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. In March 2023, a D23 post said the new experience would be “as amazing” as the Walt Disney World land. At one point, a Disney representative said the experience would be at Disney California Adventure but Disney released a statement saying no official announcement was made.
During a Q&A at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecom Conference, Iger implied the new “Avatar” Experience would be a second land.
We have one Avatar-based land, Pandora, in Florida. We’re going to put a second one in in California [at Disneyland]. That doesn’t mean we can’t put one somehwere in Asia and somwhere in Europe, for instance.

However, a recap of Iger’s comments from The Walt Disney Company continues to only say it will be an “experience.”
Iger referenced the excitement about plans to develop an Avatar experience at Disneyland in California and acknowledged the prospect of other properties where the franchise might also be successful, noting the popularity of Pandora – The World of Avatar at Walt Disney World in Florida. Iger said that if you “build it right, build it with excellence,” guests will come.
“We opened up the Zootopia land [in Shanghai], which… is one of the most successful animated films we’ve ever released in China, and it’s phenomenal there. And success in terms of visitation is tremendous,” he said.

It seems Disney is still reluctant to say anything official about the Disneyland Resort “Avatar” offering other than that it will (theoretically) exist at some point.
