There’s a new Disney’s Animal Kingdom braille map available for guests with visual disabilities.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Braille Map
Located by Island Mercantile near the front of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, the previous braille map has been removed and replaced with a new one, consistent with other braille map changes we’ve seen around Walt Disney World.
The new map is a far more simplified version from what was there before. The previous map was a more realistic interpretation of the park, similar to what guests can see in the traditional Guidemap. This one is pared way down, and also features brighter colors, with a different color for each of the areas of Animal Kingdom. Notably, Primeval Whirl, the demolished attraction has been removed from the map.
In the map’s key, you can see that each of the locations has a different raised texture, in addition to the assigned color. Below the locations key, there is a second key for additional locations, including restrooms and Guest Relations.
Walt Disney World provides a number of services for guests with visual disabilities throughout the resort:
- Audio Description by way of a Disney handheld device that describes visual elements around the Walt Disney World theme parks
- Braille Guidebooks printed in braille and large text are available upon request
- Stationary Braille Maps can be found at all of the Walt Disney World theme parks, Disney Springs, and ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex
- Braille Menus are available at select restaurants on property
