Back in 2023, Disney announced that the Cabins at Fort Wilderness would be getting a makeover. Imagineers have redesigned these spaces to become the Disney Vacation Club Cabins at Fort Wilderness Resort (but you don’t have to be a Disney Vacation Club member to book a stay in a new cabin.)
We’ve been keeping up with all the updates Disney has revealed about the new cabins, but what’s going to happen to the old ones? We know Disney will be getting rid of them, so will they be gone for good? Our answer might just be hiding…in the Grand Canyon.
Would you vacation in an old Fort Wilderness cabin even if it wasn’t at Fort Wilderness? What if you could actually live in one of these babies? As it turns out, that might actually be the case based on a post on Facebook.
According to the post, Disney is apparently offloading the old Fort Wilderness cabins and they’re being put up for sale. Further down in the comments of the post, the original poster says the cabins can be delivered anywhere within 45 minutes of Orlando and that each unit is priced at $49,900.
We were skeptical, of course, until we found another listing for a Fort Wilderness cabin — this time as an AirBnB in Williams, Arizona, near the Grand Canyon. The listing bills it as a “Fort Wilderness Cabin Relocated from Disney World,” and the description says:
“In its previous life, our cabin served as guest quarters at Walt Disney World’s Fort Wilderness Resort. We couldn’t pass up the opportunity to purchase it and relocate it to our rural ten acres in the woods just north of Williams, near the Grand Canyon.
Guests who have stayed in a Fort Wilderness cabin prior to Disney’s 2016 remodel may recognize the authentic Disney furnishings and artwork from Disney’s Imagineering department. Plus, it’s got the original Murphy bed and hidden Mickeys!”
It’s important to note that this cabin is an older model, from before a refurbishment.
We reached out to Disney to confirm if they were, in fact, selling the old Fort Wilderness cabins and were told that this was a “parody” and that they were not selling them. But, this Grand Canyon cabin has us second-guessing. Just take a look at some of the photos, it looks just like the real thing! Even if this is just a clever rebuild, you can’t deny how similar it looks.
So, while you may be able to vacation or even live in a Fort Wilderness cabin outside of Disney World — proceed with caution. The official word from Disney is that they aren’t selling the old cabins, so keep that in mind if you’re interested in living the log life.
In the meantime, you can now book your stays for the NEW Cabins at Fort Wilderness in Disney World! The general public have had access since February 27th, and new DVC members whose home resort is The Cabins can begin booking online or with Member Services on March 12th. After April 23rd, all members can begin booking stays.
