A sequel to the 2003 “Freaky Friday” starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis is finally happening.

The stars reunited for a photo Curtis shared on Instagram with the caption, “DUH! FFDEUX!” She tagged Disney and Disney Studios.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Freaky Friday 2” is confirmed and Nisha Ganatra (Hulu’s “Welcome to Chippendales”) will direct. Andrew Gunn, who produced the first film, is producing with former Disney executive Kristin Burr.
Deadline states Jordan Weiss (Hulu’s “Dollface”) wrote the sequel’s screenplay and it’s targeting a summer film shoot in Los Angeles.
Lohan and Curtis have been publicly discussing a sequel for over a year now. In May 2023, they spoke to The New York Times for the 20th anniversary of “Freaky Friday” and Curtis said:
As I went around the world with “Halloween Ends,” people wanted to know if there was going to be another “Freaky Friday.” Something really touched a chord. When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said, “It feels like there’s a movie to be made.”

Lohan added that she was open to a sequel and they are “leaving it in the hands that be.”
Around the same time, Curtis told Variety that “Freaky Friday 2” was definitively “going to happen.”
Without saying there’s anything officially happening, I’m looking at you in this moment and saying, ‘Of course it’s going to happen.’ It’s going to happen.

On a recent episode of “Radio Andy,” Andy Cohen asked Lohan if a sequel was in the works.
“It is,” she confirmed. In regards to a timeline, Lohan said, “I won’t say that yet. I don’t want to say too much. But it’s happening. We’re both excited.” Hear that audio below.
“Freaky Friday” (2003) is the third adaptation of the 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers, all produced by Disney. The first was “Freaky Friday” (1976), followed by its sequels “Summer Switch” (1984) and “A Billion for Boris” (1985). “Disney’s Freaky Friday” (1995) aired on ABC for “The Wonderful World of Disney.” The most recent adaptation was the music musical “Freaky Friday,” a Disney Channel Original Movie that premiered in 2018.
In the 2003 film, Curtis portrays Tess, an uptight psychiatrist. Lohan portrays her rebellious daughter, Anna. After an argument at a Chinese restaurant and with the help of some magical fortune cookies, the two switch bodies, forcing them to see the world from the other’s shoes, literally.
It was directed by Mark Waters from a screenplay by Heather Hach and Leslie Dixon. It had a budget of $26 million and grossed over $160 million worldwide. Curtis was nominated for the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.
