Almost two months after the Mission: SPACE attraction sign was removed from its planter, it has returned from refurbishment.
Mission: SPACE Sign Returns
The sign was removed amid ongoing refurbishment work on the exterior of Mission: SPACE. It sits in this round planter in front of the attraction’s façade. While the sign was missing, some plants sat in its place.
The sign’s design hasn’t changed although it was refurbished. It has a shiny reflective surface reading “Mission SPACE,” with space and the Earth in the background. It’s in a silver-gray frame with clear Plexiglass around the edge. The frame sits on a gray planet-like orb with a ring around it.
Crews began refurbishment work on the exterior of Mission: SPACE nearly a year ago. The ride’s exit was updated, galactic mosaics were added to the pavement, and the planet figures were refurbished. Most recently, the Earth figure returned to the attraction’s entrance after being gone for several months.
Mission: SPACE opened in August 2003, replacing Horizons, which closed permanently over four years earlier. The ride is a realistic simulation of space travel. There was originally only one intense experience (Orange Mission) but, three years after opening, a less intense version (Green Mission) was added. The two versions featured the same trip to Mars until a 2017 refurbishment when the less intense version became an Earth mission.
