REVIEW: LA Style at the 2024 Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival

This is not the LA Style you’re thinking of. It wasn’t inspired by Project Runway, you won’t find any couture labels or fashionistas, but we still think Tim Gunn would give it a high score.

2024 booth

The 2024 Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival has officially begun at Disneyland Resort and there are LOTS of things to do. From now through April 22nd, you can devour some tasty eats and drinks, check out unique entertainment, and more. Wondering just what you can eat at the LA Style booth? Well, we’ve checked it out, and now we’re sharing our FULL thoughts.

Menu

Over at LA Style,  you’ll find a full menu of dishes inspired by the complicated and unique flavor trends from the City of Angels.

2024 Menu

Now that we’ve taken a look at the menu, let’s dive into the food itself!

Eats

First up, we grabbed Carnitas-style Pork Belly for $9.

The Carnitas-style Pork Belly comes with esquites corn mac salad featuring Tajín Habanero. Pork Belly is nothing new to this booth; we’ve seen it in many various forms over the years, and we’re not mad at it!

Carnitas Style Pork Belly

The pork was super juicy and packed with a sweet barbecue flavor. It has a nice glaze that really adds to the flavors and kind of seals them all together if that makes sense. The mac salad is cold and creamy, and the tajin topping gives it the perfect kick. The flavors totally work, but we think they’d work BETTER if the mac salad was warm.

And now to try the new Baja-style Fish Tacos for $7.25.

Baja Style Fish Taco

The Baja-style Fish Tacos come with cabbage slaw, cilantro-lime crema and pico de gallo. These fancy and fresh tacos are plant-based, so they’re super-friendly bites for vegans and vegetarians!

This is plant-based fish, but it tastes like fish. Good fish does NOT taste like fish, so this was a major fail at imitating it. Like, this is actually not good. We tried it and said YUCK. Plus, the slaw is super bland and the cream sauce adds zero flavor. The flour tortilla is also super doughy and doesn’t add anything positive. It’s a big fat NO from us.

Drinks

And you can’t have an LA-inspired meal without an LA-inspired cocktail. Lucky for us, those fabulous West Coast Disney chefs and mixologists put together a Spicy Strawberry Cocktail for $17.

Spicy Strawberry Cocktail

This sweet and spicy potion is made with gin, strawberry and tamarind purées, strawberry syrup, pineapple juice, chile spices, and Tajín chamoy garnished with a Tamarindo straw. This has a super strong strawberry syrup taste. You can’t taste the booze because you’re too busy puckering from the sweetness of the syrup. It also has a good kick at the end — just a light spice to tie a little knot on all the taste notes. The tamarind taste is pretty dominant, which we loved. This is a good drink, but it could be made better with some sort of tart citrus to cut all that sweetness.

OVERALL

Overall, we’d totally recommend this booth to anyone who loves pork. The pork belly was delish. However, if you’re seeking a plant-based option, PLEASE go elsewhere. Imitation fish that tastes like poorly prepared fish just ain’t it. Oh, and if you’re looking for a cocktail that could double as a dessert, the Spicy Strawberry Cocktail is a great option. Overall, we wouldn’t go out of our way for this booth, though.

LA Style

That’s it for this booth, but there’s a LOT more where that came from!
