We have a video of drone testing over Universal Orlando Resort, confirming our earlier reports that the parks are exploring the use of drones for a new nighttime show.
Universal Orlando Drone Testing
The new nighttime spectacular was announced in March 2023 when the end of Universal Orlando’s Cinematic Celebration was confirmed. No details have been released for the new show, but using drones would solve the continuing pyrotechnic limitations. As Universal Orlando Resort is located right in the city with residential areas very close to the park, they’ve only been able to use fireworks sparingly.
Drones wouldn’t have the same noise level issues as fireworks, opening the door for more elaborate shows. In April 2023, Universal posted an ad for a drone operations manager, though it wasn’t necessarily for Universal Studios Florida. Drone technology has been confirmed for Universal Epic Universe, a new theme park opening in summer 2025.

Parisian drone company Dronisos recently opened an Orlando-area office, citing theme park clients as a reason for the new location. It’s unknown if Universal is using a third-party drone company for their show.
Testing for the new water fountains for the show began last month.
Universal Destinations and Experiences is already familiar with utilizing drones for shows, as Universal Studios Hollywood featured drones in their version of the Dark Arts at Hogwarts Castle.
