A longtime Tokyo Disney ride is closing… for something BRAND NEW.

Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters – a variant of the attraction featured at numerous Disney Parks around the world – has been open at Tokyo Disneyland since 2004. However, after a 20-year run, the attraction is going to close permanently in October 2024 to make way for a new ride based on a different Disney property!
A new attraction based on the Disney Pixar film Wreck-It-Ralph will be opening in the former Buzz space in 2026.

According to the release, the attraction will allow guests to “enter the candy-themed racing game Sugar Rush, which is being attacked by Sugar Bugs – glitches created by King Candy. Guests team up with the beloved film characters Ralph and Vanellope to transform the Sugar Bugs back to their original “kawaii” confectionery such as cookies and cakes.”

Based on that description as well as the concept art, it seems likely that the new ride will be a reuse of the same Astro Blasters ride system, though likely with upgraded “blaster” technology to “transform” the Sugar Bugs.

This brand new Wreck-It-Ralph attraction will be the first of its kind and could provide a potential window into future re-themes that could come to other versions of the Buzz Lightyear rides around the world. Stay tuned to DFB for more updates on this upcoming attraction!
