Abigail Disney Shares Support of Disneyland Resort Performers Union

The Magic United Instagram page shared a video of support from social activist and granddaughter of Roy O. Disney, Abigail Disney.

Abigail Disney Supports Disneyland Resort Performers Union

The video shows Disney sharing supporting words for the members of the performers union, and highlighting how they are the highlight of vacations to Disneyland Resort.

“The characters and the parade people make the vacation,” said [Abigail Disney]. Thank you for support as the first day of voting continues!

Disneyland Resort parade and character performers officially voted to unionize last month. Cast Members wrote in an announcement, “Our hope is to keep moving forward in collaboration. We believe improving our collective working conditions will have a direct impact on not only Cast Members’ lives, but the caliber of entertainment we offer at Disneyland Resort.”

The group, called Magic United, encompasses 1,700 Disneyland Resort Cast Members. A union election is taking place this week from May 15 through May 18.

Disneyland Resort has not yet recognized the union. Most Disneyland Resort Cast Members are already unionized, as are Walt Disney World Resort performers.

Projector Removed For Dante Topiary Projection Mapping at EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival

The projector for the first-ever projection-mapped topiary has been removed from EPCOT.

Dante Topiary Projector Removed

Disney revealed soon after the start of the 2024 EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival that the new Dante topiary would be illuminated with projection mapping at night.

A view of a waterfront area with a cloudy sky. A lamp post has a banner that reads "Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival." People are seated under a pavilion on the left.

The projector sat across from the Dante and Miguel topiaries near the Mexico Pavilion. It has been removed and there is no longer a projection-mapping effect on Dante.

The EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival runs through May 27, so the projector may have been removed permanently as Disney prepares for the festival’s end.

Topiary displays of a guitar-playing figure with a hat and an animal-like creature stand amidst vibrant flowers in a garden, with a geodesic dome in the background under a cloudy sky.

The “Coco” topiaries are just illuminated with regular lights when the sun goes down. The Dante topiary was painted with solar-charged paint to help give him a glowing effect even without the projection mapping.

See what the projection mapping looked like in Disney’s video below.

FULL LIST of the CHEAPEST Days To Go To Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in Disney World

As far as Disney World is concerned (okay, us too!) it’s never too early to start celebrating Halloween.

Halloween in Disney World

And if you’re feeling the spooky spirit, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is the event for you! Let’s find out!

Tickets are now on sale for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom! This year, the lowest ticket price increased by $10, meaning that ticket prices range now from $119 to $199 depending on the night you go, so if you’re looking for cheaper nights, you’ll want to book one closer to the beginning of the party dates.

Main Street U.S.A. at night

These tickets are expected to sell out, and it’s rare to see tickets sold at the main gate on the days of the event — though it does happen! We suggest grabbing tickets ASAP, as soon as you know which night you’d like to go. And if it’s one of the cheapest days, those can sometimes sell out first since other people are also trying to ball on a budget during their Halloween Disney World trips.

Here’s a look at all the dates where Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party tickets are priced the CHEAPEST:

  • August 13 — $119.00 for Adults; $109.00 for Children (ages 3-9)

Otherwise, you can just purchase an after-hours ticket and enter the park as early as 4PM. The event itself takes place from 7PM to midnight, and the party is offered on select nights from August 9th through October 31st, 2024.

REVIEW: This Disney Springs Restaurant Claims “The World’s Greatest Hot Sandwich,” but Can It Live up to Its Promise?

Disney Springs is home to some incredible restaurants and while we’ve had some great meals here, there’s some hefty competition between the quick-service restaurants here. There are just too many good choices — that’s a good problem to have, though, right?

Earl of Sandwich

Now, if you’re willing to make the trip to the further end of Disney Springs, you might find yourself pleasantly surprised by a good meal at an even better price!

If you’ve ever ventured to the Marketplace side of Disney Springs, chances are this restaurant’s signature wavy yellow sign out front has caught your attention.

Ta-da!

If you’ve never stopped by Earl of Sandwich before, you can find this restaurant between the Spice and Tea Exchange and Once Upon A Time. Here, you’ll find “The World’s Greatest Hot Sandwich!” while the rest of the menu features their signature hot sandwiches, pizza breads, soups, salads, sides, wraps, and desserts. Each sandwich creation starts with artisan loaves of bread baked to perfection and piled with premium meats, cheeses, and veggies according to family recipes. We like the sound of that!

Atmosphere

Earl of Sandwich is a quiet little sandwich shop…except when at peak dining times, a.k.a. the breakfast, lunch, and dinner rush. Around noon and between 5–6PM, you might find it a bit more people-y inside. It’s very regal-themed (you know, just like nobility and dignitaries would have it) and has space for covered outdoor seating (with working fans y’all).

Outdoor seating

There is a good amount of seating inside, too.

Indoor tables and chairs

When you walk through the front door, you’ll find the indoor seating to your left and right, and directly ahead of you is where you’ll see the line to the counter.

Line and ordering counter

Unless you’re mobile ordering through the restaurant’s website, you’ll want to come through here to view your ordering choices and place the order for your main entrees, sides, and drinks.

Menu

There’s a menu posted outside before you enter to give you an idea of what awaits you inside to order, but it can be a bit hard to read (especially if there’s a glare from the sun).

Outside menu

So, Earl of Sandwich has made it easier on you and posted more menu boards above the counter where you’ll order, but here’s a quick rundown of what you can expect to find here. There are hot sandwiches…

©Disney

…wraps and salads…

©Disney

…and you can even make your order a combo! There are also a couple of soup options and a few sides.

©Disney

There are even a few options offered for kids’ meals in case you’re looking for something a bit more palatable for little ones, along with several dessert options.

©Disney

To wash it all down, Earl of Sandwich also offers various beverage options, including sodas, teas, and lemonade.

©Disney

Honestly, with such a selection, it’s hard NOT to find something that will appeal to almost everyone here! So, we decided to place our order.

Pick up area

Once you’ve placed your order, you’re given a ticket and buzzer to let you know when it’s time to come to the counter to collect your food (unless you’ve mobile ordered like we did, in which case you won’t receive a buzzer and will need to watch the time for when your food is anticipated to be ready).

Eats

Since we were looking to make a full meal for our visit we decided to order a few sandwiches and a dessert for good measure. We decided that The Full Montague, the Buffalo Chicken Wrap, and a Brookie were calling our name, and we didn’t have to wait for long!

Our entire meal

Let’s dig into the nitty gritty of each item we ordered. We started things off by unwrapping the Buffalo Chicken Wrap. This beauty is made with Grilled Chicken, Cheddar, Romaine, Roma Tomato, Celery Salt, Buffalo Sauce, and Bleu Cheese Dressing which cost us $9.49, and boy was it WORTH IT!

Buffalo Chicken Wrap

Earl of Sandwich tries to help you out and precuts your sandwiches and wraps for you, so we didn’t have to do a ton of work here other than keeping everything in the wrap…well, wrapped. As soon as we tore the cut pieces of the wrap apart, we found ourselves swarmed with a LOT of filling. The flour tortilla makes it look a bit messy — it had a hard time holding everything in on its own (which doesn’t get better with the longer you allow it to sit uneaten), but that didn’t take away from how delicious it was. The Romain lettuce was fresh and had a great crunch to it, while the pieces of chicken breast were juicy and, when paired against the buffalo sauce, were even softer.

Cross section of the wrap

Our only complaint with this one was with the buffalo sauce. It wasn’t very spicy, so we don’t think you should expect a lot of heat from it like you might typically expect out of buffalo sauce, but it had every other element to it that made it taste just like buffalo sauce! It was just a little off-putting to us.

Then, it was time to turn our attention to The Full Montague sandwich. This was the one we were most excited about. It’s made of Roasted Beef, Turkey, Swiss, Cheddar, Lettuce, Roma Tomato, and Earl’s Mustard Sauce which cost us $8.99.

The Full Montague

Again, the presentation with this one was everything, and we found our mouths watering at the mere sight of this sandwich. This one also came to us precut when we unwrapped it, and we couldn’t wait to dig in.

Cross-section of the sandwich

This sandwich had LOTS of great flavors to it. The lettuce and veggies were crispy and had a nice crunch to them. The roasted beef and turkey were well-cooked. We didn’t find the Earl’s mustard sauce spicy, but since there wasn’t a whole lot of it on the sandwich, it’s really subtle and doesn’t overpower the rest of the flavors in the sandwich. The sandwich bread was a tad bit sweet and tasted like the Parker House rolls you would find at your local grocery store, which we think made the difference in this whole sandwich.

We saved the best for last thought with the Brookie. While there’s nothing terribly special about sticking a brownie and chocolate chip cookie together, we decided it was the right choice to round out our meal. We grabbed ours (which came individually wrapped) for $3.49.

Brookie

Once we unwrapped it it was hard to let this dessert sit long enough to take pictures of it! The brownie was gooey and fudgey and broke apart so easily from the doughy chocolate chip cookie side.

Two halves of the brookie

As we said, there is nothing terribly special about this other than it’s a dessert combination fit to please even the most hard-to-please, but we found it to be just what we needed to wrap up a full meal at Earl of Sandwich and leave satisfied.

Overall

Overall, this meal really surprised us with how satisfied we were by the end of the meal. While some menu items shined brighter than others to us, we can honestly say we actually enjoyed everything we ate here.

All wrapped up!

We wouldn’t mind picking up any of these three on a return visit to Earl of Sandwich in the near future, and we think you should consider them the next time you visit Disney Springs.

Nosh Or Not?

Stop on by Earl of Sandwich if…

  • You’re looking for a quick, light bite. These meals are made for individual portions and aren’t meant to be super heavy.
  • You’re looking for something fast to eat with a little flexibility in the menu. While we ordered a few sandwiches here for this visit, that’s not all that Earl of Sandwich offers. Try pairing your sandwich with a soup or salad!
  • You NEED somewhere to eat where everyone you’re traveling with will eat something off the menu. As we mentioned before there are lots of sandwich options, salads, soups, sides that you could easily make a full entree out of, and even a few kid’s menu options here.

Try out another restaurant if…

  • Sandwiches and soup just won’t cut it for you. That’s the bulk of the menu here or you will be paying a pretty penny to combine a few sides together for a meal.
  • You’re looking for a full-service restaurant. This is a quick-service restaurant, which means seating will be on a first-come, first-serve basis, and your food will be served bagged.

We’ve eaten EVERYWHERE there is to eat at Disney World and we know the BEST things to order on the menu! Be sure to check out the links to browse through a few of our most recent reviews and stay tuned with us at Disney Food Blog for more!

We Just Spotted an Exciting CHANGE in the Disney World App!

We’ve seen all kinds of Disney World park maps over the years. We’ve seen familiar Disney characters grace the front cover. We’ve seen the iconic Cinderella Castle take center stage on old maps. We’ve even seen regular old Disney World visitors (or Disney models…how do we get that job?!) earn a spot on the front of the map. Talk about a big honor! But Disney also has a digital park map that comes in handy when you’re on the go.

Magic Kingdom park maps change all the time!

Not to sound dramatic, but we use the My Disney Experience app pretty much every single day. We’re in the parks every day of the year, so between all the Mobile Orders we have placed, the wait times we have checked, and the character meet-and-greet times we have confirmed, that app is like our holy grail. And recently, the My Disney Experience app just CHANGED!

OK, so the map feature on the My Disney Experience app is SUPER helpful. It shows you every possible thing you could need, including all the closest water bottle refill stations and bathrooms no matter where you are in Disney World.

©Disney

You can also find out where to charge your phone straight from the My Disney Experience app. If you’re ever curious about something — whether it’s a character meet-and-greet, ride, restaurant, or shop, just tap the search icon at the bottom! You’d be amazed by all the hidden features in the app.

©Disney

But recently, the app was updated to reflect an exciting change! Do you see what we see? The Tiana’s Bayou Adventure ride is listed — with its brand-new opening date!

©Disney

You can see the loooong queue behind the ride (don’t forget — this new ride will open with a virtual queue), along with some of those log-shaped ride vehicles just WAITING for people to hop inside. The good news is that we’ve spotted some Disney Imagineers onboard the log boats, so we can, in fact, confirm that they float. That’s a relief, considering Tiana’s Bayou Adventure ride previews begin SOON!

Imagineers testing Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

Oh, and if you have the Disneyland app, look carefully at the digital map! There are all kinds of fun secret on the map.

WAIT. We Just Found Some AMAZING Tiny Details HIDING in Disney’s Park Map!

Stay tuned for more Tiana’s Bayou Adventure updates! In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more.

Hold Up. There’s a Hotel With “Heavenly” Beds in Disney World and You HAVE To Know About It!

Choosing where to stay in Disney World can be a difficult decision.

Dolphin fountain

There are so many hotels with fantastic theming, amazing pools, proximity to the parks, and so many other attributes, but what about the comfort of the beds? Getting a good night’s sleep is of utmost importance in Disney World, and if it’s your number one priority, you need to know where to find these HEAVENLY beds on property!

Most Disney World hotels use Beautyrest Disney Pillow Top Mattresses, and many guests absolutely love them.

Animal Kingdom Lodge hotel room

They are a little bit on the softer side, so people who enjoy firmer mattresses sometimes have some issues with them, but most guests really enjoy them and wish they had them as their own mattresses back home (which, we have great news, you CAN actually buy them!).

Grand Floridian DVC Rooms

But those aren’t the mattresses we’re talking about today. No, we’re still on Disney World property, but we’re talking about the mattresses at the Swan & Dolphin Hotels. These hotels are operated by Marriott, but they are on Disney World property, so you’re still very close to the theme parks and can even walk to Disney’s BoardWalk in just a few minutes (which then gives you easy transportation to EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios).

The Bed at Swan Reserve

The beds here are LITERALLY called Westin Heavenly Beds and feature “a pillow-top mattress, a white goose-down comforter, and four overstuffed pillows” according to the Swan and Dolphin website. One of our team members stayed at the hotel years ago and remembers that her family ADORED these beds!

Swan Reserve Room

And guess what? YOU CAN BUY THEM ONLINE! That’s right! According to the Westin store website, these mattresses are newly available in 2024 for public sale, and no longer will you have to travel all the way to Disney World to have one of the best sleeps of your life.

Swan and Dolphin Hotels

Now, you may not be thinking about how important beds are in a Disney World hotel because you’ll be spending so much time in the parks, but that’s precisely why it’s important. If you’re able to sleep soundly, you’ll wake up refreshed each day (even if it is 7AM and you just went to bed 6 hours ago, it’ll be a solid 6 hours). If you can’t, you’ll be cranky, tired, and won’t be able to enjoy your trip to the fullest.

We’re always here to help you decide where to stay for your next Disney World vacation, so stay tuned to DFB!

We’ve stayed at every single Disney World hotel — these are the best!
