Disney is set to open their latest land in Tokyo AND WE’RE THERE!
Fantasy Springs
Fantasy Springs, the highly anticipated new land coming to Tokyo DisneySea is finally close to opening! The new expansion, complete with three new mini-themed lands and an in-park hotel, had been announced in 2018, and it’s finally opening on June 6th, 2024! We got a special preview of this new sea port, and we’re taking you with us.
Entrance
We entered Fantasy Springs for our preview from the Fantasy Springs Hotel — when you go out the backside of the hotel, you’ll find the security area and the dedicated Fantasy Springs entrance. There, we were greeted by some STUNNING rockwork with lots of hidden Disney details!
It’s beautiful!
There are several Disney characters hidden throughout the rockwork, including multiple princesses. We particularly loved the sculpture of Princess Aurora and Prince Philip dancing together! There’s a waterfall that cascades down the back of Aurora’s dress, and the flowers surrounding her are a mix of pink and blue, giving the illusion that her dress changes colors depending on where you’re standing.
Aurora and Prince Philip!
The Cinderella sculpture is surrounded by blue blooms to match her iconic dress color…
Cinderella
…as well as several of her mouse friends! How cute are these?!
The mice!
Snow White is represented by a pool of water in the shape of her profile, and nearby, the face of the magic mirror hides behind a waterfall, giving it a glassy, reflective look. That’s a super cool effect!
Snow White section
Of course, Ariel is carved out of stone that looks like something you’d find near the sea! Little fountains behind her tail give the illusion that she has just pushed up out of the ocean and onto the rock.
Ariel
Check out our video with some of the incredible details!
After we made it through the entrance area, it was on to the various kingdoms!
Frozen Kingdom
The first area we toured was the Frozen Kingdom, otherwise known as Arendelle! We entered the space via an absolutely stunning bridge, reminiscent of the one to the castle in the films.
Tell the guards to open up the gates!
One of the major highlights of the area is the new attraction, Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Journey! This ride will take visitors on a boat ride tour through Frozen‘s story.
Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Journey
And we were barely in the land a few minutes before we were already spotting hidden details! Take a close look at this shop window…do you notice anything unusual?
Hidden details!
One of the pretzels on display is a Mickey pretzel! What a fun nod to a classic Disney snack.
A Mickey pretzel!
The Arendelle village square is lined with colorful buildings with spectacular theming — they really make great use of the space here.
The village!
Take a look around with us! The theming is absolutely stunning.
And Oaken even has his own spot! Oaken’s OK Foods is one of the places in this area where you can grab a bite to eat.
Oaken’s place!
Now, on to the next area!
Rapunzel’s Forest
In Rapunzel’s Forest, you’ll find spaces themed to the popular Disney movie Tangled. Including the iconic tavern from the film, The Snuggly Duckling! We can’t WAIT to eat here.
Looks friendly!
This area of the park is also home to Rapunzel’s tower, and if you look closely, you’ll notice something special…
It’s Rapunzel’s tower!
…Rapunzel herself is inside! Somebody let that girl down to go on an adventure!
Do you see her?
The new ride in this area is Rapunzel’s Lantern Festival. This beautiful boat ride takes you through the tale of Tangled, including a spectacular floating lantern scene. We’re so excited to try this one in person!
A new ride!
We got a sneak peek at the ride vehicles as they were floating by. These are made to look similar to Rapunzel and Flynn’s boat from the film.
A look at the boats for the ride
We think Rapunzel deserves a ride in Disney World too — what about you?
Peter Pan’s Never Land
The final area of Fantasy Springs is Peter Pan’s Never Land, themed to — you guessed it! — Peter Pan.
That ship looks familiar!
It looks like the Lost Boys have been working on their target practice over here!
Looks like the Lost Boys were here
There are fun little details like this hidden throughout the land, including this Captain Hook and gang-themed totem pole.
The totem pole is so cute!
One of the new rides in this area of the park is Peter Pan’s Never Land Adventure, which takes you on a journey with several characters from the film!
Peter Pan’s Never Land Adventure queue
We got the chance to check out this ride during our visit, and it was incredible from a technological standpoint. It’s a mix of set pieces and 3D screens, similar to Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in EPCOT, but the lines between the screens and sets are much more seamless. It was very difficult to tell when you were looking at a screen versus a real set piece.
The 3D glasses
We even spotted a hidden nod to Aladdin during our ride through — at one point, the lamp jumps out at you from a pile of treasure. You know Disney has to have those Easter eggs!
Details from the queue — we couldn’t take pictures on the ride.
The ride vehicles for the attraction are pretty massive, shaped like a boat and meant to fly with the aid of pixie dust. We rode twice and we didn’t get motion sick either time, which is impressive for a ride that incorporates 3D — the effects were so seamless that it made the experience less jarring than other 3D rides.
Ride entrance
Calling all explorers! If you just love roaming and checking out details, then don’t forget to step aboard The Jolly Roger, where you’ll find all kinds of fun little nods to Peter Pan.
On the ship
We spotted a map of Neverland, the Jolly Roger Crew Log, and the infamous hook!
So many things to see!
There were even fun little vandalism cartoons from where the kids took over the ship. We think that’s a pretty accurate drawing of Captain Hook!
The kids took over!
Of course, when you’ve got a hook for a hand, you’ll have to swap it out sometimes — check out the Captain’s case of accessories, which includes utensils, a corkscrew, and a nutcracker.
All the hook accessories
NOTE: We’ll continue to update this post with more pictures from Fantasy Springs as we get the full tour, so stay tuned to DFB!

On May 7th, 2024, a historic vote was made by the Anaheim City Council to officially APPROVE the DisneylandForward project! This means that Disneyland can begin to build new experiences for fans, create over 4,500 new jobs in the parks and over 9,000 new jobs in construction in the first 10 years, and bring new revenue to Anaheim.
Mickey Mouse at Disneyland
Again, for general context, DisneylandForward is a multi-year expansion and redesign project that would allow for extra theme park development and expand the resort’s lodging, retail, parking, and dining options, all thanks to some adjustments with the current regulations governing development at Disneyland Resort.
All in all, it’ll be a 40-year-long project. Not a lot has been officially confirmed for Disneyland Resort in terms of future changes. Disney has mentioned that they would use DisneylandForward to enhance parking for both guests and cast members while adding a new transportation center.
Included in this expansion will be benefits for the residents of Anaheim, including $30 million for affordable housing, $8 million for parks, $85 million in traffic improvements and pedestrian safety, and continued investment in workforce development programs. We can’t wait to see what this expansion will look like when it really gets going, so stay tuned to DFB for all the latest news!
We are so thrilled to be getting a first look at Tokyo DisneySea‘s new land, Fantasy Springs, about a month before it opens to the public! But we didn’t get to just head in through the normal park gates, no — we got to enter through the new Fantasy Springs Hotel, giving us a first look!
The lobby area of this hotel is beyond gorgeous! It feels whimsical and exciting to us, while not feeling too overwhelming.
The story of Fantasy Springs is that there are magical springs that celebrate Disney stories in their pools of water (which is how it ties into Tokyo DisneySea!). One day, a duchess discovered the springs and decided to build her chateau in the area. Following the waters takes you to fantastical locations, and the hotel acts as that chateau!
Fantasy Springs Hotel Ceiling
Deluxe hotels are the most popular in Tokyo, meaning the demand is extremely high. Not only is the hotel itself beautiful, but if you book one of the rooms in the Deluxe Wing, you’ll have a balcony room that faces into the park!
Fantasy Springs Hotel
While we didn’t get a look at the rooms today, we did get to see the gorgeous Fantasy Springs Restaurant, which was beyond stunning.
Fantasy Springs Restaurant
Tokyo Disney wanted guests to feel like you’re living in the story of Fantasy Springs when they check into the hotel, and we think with decor like this, that’s easy to do!
Stunning!
We can’t wait to explore this hotel fully in the coming days, and you know we’ll be bringing you along with us, so stay tuned to DFB!

Exciting news out of Anaheim – the city council has given final approval for DisneylandForward, and the next era of Disneyland Resort is about to begin!
First looks revealed for attractions in Fantasy Springs at Tokyo DisneySea and Disney Parks attendance leveling out post-COVID — this and more in today’s daily recap for Tuesday, May 7, 2024.
To celebrate AAPI Heritage Month, a new orange chicken burrito and lychee pear refresher have been added to the Studio Catering Co. menu, and we reviewed both.
It’s official: the DisneylandForward project will go into effect 30 days from Tuesday, May 7, 2024, following its final approval from the Anaheim City Council this evening.
DisneylandForward Approved in Final City Council Vote
The motion to approve DisneylandForward in its final procedural vote passed with 7 votes in favor and 0 votes opposed.
The project was initially approved in its first vote by the Anaheim City Council on April 17. Now that it has been approved a second time, the plan will go into effect 30 days from now on June 7, 2024.
DisneylandForward was first proposed three years ago, and Disney held public workshops in October 2023, January and February 2024. The Anaheim Planning Commission first approved the project on March 11 after hours of public comment. The vote then moved over to the Anaheim City Council following a community informational open house held on April 10.
With DisneylandForward, Disney has committed to spending at least $1.9 billion on Disneyland Resort over the next 10 years, up to $2.5 billion. Disney has also committed $30 million to go toward affordable housing, with $15 million in the first year and $15 million in five years; $10 million for sewer improvements along Katella Avenue; and $8 million for Anaheim city parks within the first year. The plan does not grant Disney any new, additional land to be developed.
Disney will also pay $40 million to obtain Magic Way, which spans 1,150 feet in length from Disneyland Drive to Walnut Street, and two entry drives into Disney parking at Hotel Way and Clementine Street.
This approval allows Disney to choose where it will build new lands, resort hotels, retail locations, and more within its existing Disneyland Resort footprint. One experience already teased is a new “Avatar” experience; its first piece of concept art was revealed during Disney’s 2024 Annual Meeting of Shareholders. Other potential IPs that have been suggested but not confirmed include “Tangled,” “Frozen,” “Zootopia,” “Black Panther,” “Toy Story,” “Peter Pan,” “Coco,” and “Tron.”
Whatever plans Disney has in store for expanding Disneyland Resort could likely be shared during D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in August.
We are focused on turbocharigng growth with a number of long-term strategic investments. That includes our DisneylandForward initiative — the first step in our expansion plans at Disneyland Resort, which received unanimous preliminary approval by the Anaheim City Council last month.
We’re incredibly excited for the many potential new stories our guests could experience at Walt’s original theme park, including the much-anticipated opportunity to bring Avatar to Disneyland.

The Toy Story Hotel opened at the Tokyo Disney Resort in 2022. The hotel was the fifth Disney-branded resort to open on the property, and the first in the Moderate Type price category. As the name implies, the hotel is themed to the Toy Story film franchise, right down to the rooms. We just stayed here for the first time, and you’ve just gotta see it to believe it! Come on!
The Toy Story Hotel’s rooms are each designed to look like Andy’s room from the original 1995 Toy Story film, though arguably presented from a toy’s perspective. However, the theming begins before one even reaches the room. The hallways are complete with Toy Story-themed wallpaper, and a rug design including “footprints” from some of the franchise’s iconic characters.
The hallway. Notice the rug?
Each guest room door features a large room number in a font reminiscent of the film’s logo (and the Pop Century Resort at Walt Disney World).
The hotel room door
The room’s entryway gives the first glimpse of its Toy Story theming, including custom furniture, wall-art featuring characters including Rex and the Woody’s Roundup gang, and the iconic cloud wallpaper.
The room’s entryway
The back of the door even features signage on the back done in an unmistakable Toy Story-style.
The most adorable “Do Not Disturb” sign ever?
The room itself features two beds, one of which features a fold-out third trundle bed, as well as themed furniture and lighting fixtures.
The room!
The TV framed by a giant Etch-a-Sketch might be our favorite touch in the whole room… though the desk lamp that looks suspiciously like the famous Pixar Luxo lamp is definitely close.
Etch-a-Sketch TV!
We love this Mickey Mouse watch-as-clock piece as well.
What time is it?
The room’s theming even extends to the bathroom, which features a puzzle motif…

…and a faux “hand-drawn”illustration of Wheezy himself in the shower.
“You’ve got a friend in me!”
The room also features a nice little perk for guests: Toy Story slippers!
Slippers!
Each pair features Woody on the front…

… and Andy’s signature on the bottom!
You’re officially one of Andy’s toys now!
The Toy Story Hotel is soooooooo well themed, and it makes a comparatively cost-effective place to stay while visiting the Tokyo Disney Resort. Stay tuned to DFB for more Tokyo Disney coverage.

This 12-inch by 13.5-inch sign is comprised of six serpents extending out from a filigree-covered center. These serpents are modeled after door handles found in the halls of the Haunted Mansion.
A Haunted Mansion “HM” logo is included in a circle at the center, with a bat above the letters and the image of a lantern in the middle. No price was shared for the piece, and it is meant for indoor use only.
Also revealed was this tabletop projection light, themed to one of the Haunted Mansion gargoyles. Nested inside a circular container with the gargoyle at the front, a ghostly blue orb features the logo for The Haunted Mansion, the Hitchhiking Ghosts, and more iconography related to the attraction.
The tabletop projection light can light up in multiple colors, including green, purple, and blue. It requires three AA batteries (which are included) and is 7.5 inches tall by 8.5 inches wide. No price was shared for the item.
It is likely that official announcements for these items, as well as pricing and release dates, will be shared later this summer. A number of Haunted Mansion items are already available for purchase.

Disneyland Fantasmic Fire
Fantasmic! at Disneyland has been temporarily suspended following a fire incident that occurred during a performance in April 2023. The show will re-open on May 24, 2024. It’s been closed to allow for repairs, refurbishments, and potential changes in the wake of the fire. Disney has provided updates detailing the circumstances around the fire, as well as insights into prospective modifications planned for Fantasmic! upon its return.
How to View Fantasmic at Disneyland
Fantasmic!, Disneyland’s captivating nighttime spectacular, unfolds on the iconic Tom Sawyer’s Island, overlooking the picturesque Rivers of America in Frontierland. During peak seasons like summer, holidays, and spring break, this 27-minute extravaganza typically offers two showings, one at 9 PM and another at 10:30 PM, delighting guests with nightly performances.
However, during less crowded periods, such as January and February, the show may have a single evening presentation or, in rare instances, be limited to weekend performances only. To ensure you don’t miss this enchanting experience, it’s advisable to consult the Disney website’s calendar for the entertainment schedule on your intended visit date. Alternatively, you can conveniently access this information within the park by inquiring with a friendly Cast Member or consulting the Disneyland app or park maps, which provide up-to-date showtimes and details.
Disneyland Fantasmic 2024 Showtimes
Fantasmic! showtimes varies throughout the year depending on the anticipated crowd levels and seasonal events. Just like how fireworks at Disneyland are not shown every night throughout the year, daily showtimes for Fantasmic! vary too depending on the season.
While predicting the schedule isn’t always an exact science, you can expect to see daily showtimes or the potential for two nightly shows of Fantasmic! during these periods of the year:
Spring break season (March through mid-April)
Summer (mid-June through mid-August)
Halloween Time (most likely October)
Holiday Season (November through December)
When Fantasmic! is shown twice a night, the first showing of Fantasmic! will run at 9 pm, then the Disneyland Forever! fireworks will be presented, and then the second 10:30 pm show of Fantasmic! will perform.
During less busy times of the year, Disneyland will drop the Fantasmic! showtime to once per night. When Fantasmic! is shown once per night, the showtime is usually at 9PM. You might even see Fantasmic show Disneyland regulated to weekends only, which is something similar to World of Color at Disneyland.
With the triumphant return of Fantasmic! at Disneyland, the viewing areas have been updated to accommodate guests. There are two primary options for securing seating to witness this spectacular nighttime show: open seating or the convenience of dining packages. The map above illustrates the layout of the viewing areas surrounding the Rivers of America, where the main stage for Fantasmic! is situated under, “THE SHOW”.
However, the show’s elements extend along the entire river, with boats and projections visible throughout. Guests who opt for the dining packages are treated to the premier viewing experience, with a roped-off area directly across from the main stage, offering an unobstructed vantage point. This prime location guarantees not only the best sightlines but also the luxury of seated viewing, a coveted perk in itself. The seating arrangements for the various dining packages are as follows:
The Hungry Bear Fantasmic! Dining Package seating is located on the far left of the viewing area, where guests typically remain standing.
The River Belle Terrace Standard Dining Package is situated just off-center to the left in the viewing area, with guests seated on the ground.
The River Belle Terrace also offers a premium dining package, where guests are seated at 7:15 pm and remain in their seats through the first 9 pm showing of Fantasmic!
Beginning May 7, guests can once again reserve a spot at Blue Bayou Restaurant for a multi-course dining experience AND reserved seating for a viewing of Fantasmic! when it returns!
This updated map and seating information provide a comprehensive guide to securing the best possible viewing experience for the highly anticipated return of Fantasmic! at the Disneyland Resort on May 24!
Disneyland Fantasmic Viewing Tips
Disneyland has confirmed that there will not be a virtual queue system utilized for the nighttime spectacular “Fantasmic!” when it returns on May 24. This means that guests have two primary options for securing a viewing spot: staking out a location along the Rivers of America or purchasing a reserved dining package. To avoid spending an excessive amount of time waiting for “Fantasmic!,” a key recommendation is to attend the second showing of the evening.
For this later performance, it is advisable to watch the fireworks from the Frontierland area and then join the crowd moving into the “Fantasmic!” viewing areas once the pyrotechnics conclude. For general viewing without a dining package, those willing to line up a bit early can aim for a spot close to the fence along the water’s edge. If arriving later for the first show, lining up on the bridge over Pirates of the Caribbean offers a nice vantage point.
The “Fantasmic!” dining packages occupy a substantial portion of the prime viewing areas, with the Blue Bayou section directly across from Tom Sawyer’s Island offering the best sightlines. This coveted spot is within the River Belle Terrace reserved section on most nights. For guests opting to experience “Fantasmic!” without a dining package and targeting the second show, the following steps are recommended:
Watch the “Disneyland Forever” fireworks from the area along the waterfront between Frontierland and Pirates of the Caribbean, directly in front of the River Belle Terrace restaurant.
When the fireworks conclude, move into the general viewing area closest to the center, ensuring to ask a Cast Member where you are permitted to sit, as the dining package reserved area may not be clearly marked.
Remain in this area for the approximately one hour until the show begins. Members of your group can take turns grabbing snacks or treats using the Disneyland mobile ordering system while others hold the spot.
When selecting your viewing location, aim to avoid any obstructions of Tom Sawyer’s Island, as an unobstructed view enhances the overall experience.
While an obscured view can still provide an enjoyable way to end the day at the parks, the energy and atmosphere of the area are crucial components of the “Fantasmic!” experience.
Fantasmic Virtual Queue
Contrary to earlier expectations, Disneyland has confirmed that they will not be utilizing a virtual queue system for the returning Fantasmic! nighttime spectacular in 2024. Previously, it was anticipated that Disneyland would implement a virtual queue process similar to the one used for World of Color, allowing guests to secure reserved viewing sections through the Disneyland app without having to physically line up hours in advance. However, as of now, Disneyland has no plans to offer a Fantasmic! virtual queue option.
Guests will need to secure their viewing spots through traditional standby lines or by purchasing a Fantasmic! Dining Package, which guarantees reserved seating. It’s important to note that while a virtual queue is not currently planned, Disneyland may still introduce this option in the future. If they do decide to implement a Fantasmic! virtual queue, it is likely to follow a similar system to the one used for World of Color and the previous Fantasmic! reserved seating process with FastPass.
In such a scenario, guests would have the opportunity to join a virtual queue from the Disneyland app after entering the park for the day, typically around noon. The virtual queue would assign guests to a colored viewing section, effectively saving their spot for the show without the need to physically line up hours in advance. It’s worth mentioning that being assigned to a virtual queue section does not guarantee seating during the show, and guests may be required to stand in their designated area.
The virtual queue process would operate independently from the Disneyland Genie+ service, ensuring that it does not impact any Lightning Lane selections made by guests. While a virtual queue option could provide convenience and flexibility for guests, as of now, Disneyland has not announced any plans to implement it for the returning Fantasmic! show in 2024. Guests will need to rely on traditional standby lines or secure a Fantasmic! Dining Package to guarantee their viewing experience.

Fantasmic Show Tips
Arrive early to the viewing areas, even before Cast Members allow lining up. People will be hovering and waiting to secure spots.
Consider purchasing a Fantasmic! Dining Package for guaranteed reserved viewing and to avoid long standby waits. The Blue Bayou package offers the best center viewing section.
If not doing a dining package, aim to see the second Fantasmic! showing. It’s easier to get a spot after the first show’s crowd exits.
For the second showing without a dining package, watch the fireworks from Frontierland first, then quickly move into the Fantasmic! viewing area as soon as the first crowd leaves.
Ask Cast Members about the best standby viewing spots and where you’re permitted to sit, as dining package areas may not be clearly marked.
Guests with disabilities can use the designated viewing area between River Belle Terrace and Blue Bayou dining sections. Arrive very early to secure a spot along the railing closest to the water.
For standby, the areas closest to the center and at least halfway back tend to be the best views in the general viewing sections.
If doing standby for the first show, line up at least 60-90 minutes early as the viewing areas can fill up quickly within 30 minutes of opening.
History of Fantasmic! Disneyland
Origins and Debut (1992)
The idea for Fantasmic! originated from the success of the nighttime shows “Laserphonic Fantasy” and “Illuminations” at EPCOT, which used advanced water projection technology. Disney wanted to create a similar show on the Rivers of America at Disneyland. After several concepts were explored, including shows based on the Haunted Mansion and a live Fantasia orchestra, the idea of Mickey Mouse battling Disney villains while scenes from animated films played out won out.
Originally titled “Imagination,” it was renamed “Fantasmic!” for trademark purposes.Construction began in 1991, with the Rivers of America drained and Tom Sawyer Island expanded to accommodate the show’s infrastructure, including control rooms, backstage areas, and a 45-foot-tall dragon animatronic on a cherry picker rig. The $30 million production cost was more akin to a new attraction than a show at the time. Fantasmic! had a scheduled press premiere on April 29, 1992 but was postponed due to the Los Angeles riots over the Rodney King verdict that same day. It officially opened to the public on May 15, 1992 to huge crowds and success.
Original 1992 Show
The original 1992 Fantasmic! show consisted of the following scenes:
Mickey dreams he is the Sorcerer’s Apprentice from Fantasia
Appearances by characters like Kaa from The Jungle Book, King Louie, and the Jungle Book monkeys
A Peter Pan vs. Captain Hook ship battle on the Rivers
Scenes from Fantasia like the dancing mushrooms
The Mark Twain Riverboat gets piloted by a horde of sea creatures
Ursula from The Little Mermaid makes an appearance on a giant float
The massive Pinocchio marionettes perform
Mickey battles the 45-foot-tall dragon animatronic Maleficent at the climax
While a major hit, Fantasmic! had some technical issues in the early years, like the dragon’s fire-breathing effects not always working and the fragile Pinocchio marionettes frequently breaking down.
2009 Upgrades
In 2009, Fantasmic! received a major upgrade as part of Disney’s “Summer Nightastic” event. This included:
A new fully animatronic and improved 45-foot-tall fire-breathing Maleficent dragon to replace the original cherry picker rig version
New Flotsam and Jetsam eel animatronics added
The use of digital projection mapping technology
While the new dragon wasn’t ready for the June 2009 debut, it was finally implemented later that summer.
2017 Updates
After an extended refurbishment coinciding with construction for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, a new version of Fantasmic! debuted in July 2017 with more changes:
New scenes based on Aladdin, The Lion King, Tangled, and Pirates of the Caribbean
An increased presence of Mickey Mouse throughout
An updated soundtrack and audio system
Enhanced projection effects
This brought Fantasmic! to its current state as Disney’s longest-running nighttime spectacular, having performed nearly 11,000 shows at Disneyland since 1992. The show was temporarily suspended in 2023 after the dragon animatronic caught fire during a performance. It is scheduled to return on May 24, 2024 with a new restaged version after extensive refurbishments.
Disneyland Fantasmic Storyline
Fantasmic! takes place on the Rivers of America in Frontierland. The show begins with Mickey Mouse in his iconic Sorcerer’s Apprentice role from Fantasia, playing with magical powers he doesn’t quite control yet. This leads to the appearance of Disney villains like Maleficent, who transforms into a 45-foot-tall fire-breathing dragon animatronic. The main storyline follows Mickey having a dream where he is the Sorcerer’s Apprentice battling the Disney villains and their evil forces. Here are some of the major scenes and elements:
Appearances by characters like Kaa the snake from The Jungle Book, King Louie and the Jungle Book monkeys, and the dancing hippos and alligators from Fantasia.
A massive ship battle between Peter Pan and Captain Hook’s pirate crew on the Rivers of America, with stunt performers sword-fighting on one of the ships.
Scenes recreated from Fantasia like the dancing mushrooms and the bucket-carrying brooms and mops.
The Mark Twain Riverboat gets piloted by a horde of sea creatures and monsters like the giant whale Monstro from Pinocchio.
Ursula from The Little Mermaid makes an appearance on a giant float, singing “Poor Unfortunate Souls.”
The massive Pinocchio marionettes perform on the island, controlled by nine performers.
Mickey battles the 45-foot dragon animatronic Maleficent at the climax, finally defeating her with a sword and magic wand.
Throughout the show, the waters are utilized with fountains, water screens, pyrotechnics, lasers, and projection mapping to create the various effects and scenes from the Disney films. Live performers, character appearances, enhanced special effects, and a musical score combining songs from the movies bring the entire experience to life. Fantasmic! originally debuted in 1992 and was updated with new scenes in 2017, including additions based on Aladdin, The Lion King, Tangled, and Pirates of the Caribbean. It is considered a landmark in combining so many different entertainment elements into one nighttime spectacular.
