Big Al Statue with MagicBand+ Interaction Installed at Disney California Adventure

A new Big Al statue with dialogue triggered by MagicBand+ has been installed near Grizzly River Run at Disney California Adventure. Big Al is a bear from the Country Bear Jamboree, which was at Disneyland Park from 1972 to 2001.

Big Al Statue

Entrance of grizzly peak airfield with a carved bear statue playing a banjo, surrounded by pedestrians and greenery.

The statue is located at the Disney Vacation Club Grizzly Peak Recreation Area kiosk.

Statue of a cartoonish bear playing a guitar, displayed on a wooden platform at an outdoor venue with people in the background.

Big Al is a large bear wearing a brown hat and red vest. He carries a comically small guitar labeled with his name in a horseshoe.

His name and a horseshoe are also on the front of his tree trunk pedestal.

Close-up of a statue of big al, a bear playing a yellow guitar, with trees and a building in the background.

The statue is static, but when you wave at Big Al with a MagicBand+, you’ll hear one of a few different snippets of dialogue. We heard Big Al strum his guitar and say, “Howdy. Yep, it’s me, Big Al.” He also sang, “There was a bear named Big Al. That would be me.”

A wooden sculpture of a bear wearing a hat and backpack, situated at a park with people walking in the background.

Big Al talks to guests about vacation, reminding them to take lots of pictures. He says, “My friends love going on vacation. I’m more of a cave bear, myself.” He makes several bear puns like, “Thanks for taking a pause (paws) in your day to see me, Big Al.”

A large acorn-shaped sculpture on a wooden base, displayed in a park with people in the background.

Though Country Bear Jamboree no longer exists at Disneyland Resort, performances continue at Tokyo Disneyland. The attraction is currently closed at Magic Kingdom to become Country Bear Musical Jamboree, an updated version featuring the bears singing Disney songs.
