We have been gearing up for summer in Disney World!
Hollywood Studios
Disney announced that several of the attractions currently closed will be reopening sometime this summer! Unfortunately, we still don’t have opening dates. That means, two rides that we are eager to ride will remain closed this week, among several other attractions.
Both Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will remain closed this week in Disney World!
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster closed on January 8th, it won’t reopen until the summer of this year.
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster
Although we don’t have an exact reopening date yet, we know that it’ll be at least a few months before the ride reopens. Last year, when the ride closed around this time (on February 20th, to be exact), it reopened on May 26th.
Splash Mountain is permanently closed — this ride is being renovated to become Tiana’s Bayou Adventure! The new ride will be themed to The Princess and the Frog.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
The ride in Disney World is set to open this summer. Now, we are starting to see some big signs that we’re getting close. New signs have been added to a couple of the stores near the ride! Critter Co-Op and Tiana’s General Store will be coming to Magic Kingdom.
Critter Co-op
We have also seen Disney Imagineers test riding the ride! Now, that gets us super excited to see! If they’re riding it, that’s gotta mean it’s almost ready, right?
Imagineers testing Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
Other subtle details have emerged such as a water lily on the new gate. The water lily is a nod to the movie the ride is inspired by. The queue is also starting to look really good, and we know there’s going to be a fun Mardi Gras celebration!
We spotted a new sign!
And now that some of the walls have come down, you can see new details like this new sidewalk that has been exposed!
Both of these rides will be opening sometime this summer! We are still waiting to hear an official date for them, but it’ll be here before we know it. Other attractions will also be remaining closed this week. Check out what will be closed the week of May 4th through May 11th.
Magic Kingdom
Country Bear Jamboree
Country Bear Jamboree closed on January 27th, 2024 for refurbishment. When we recently visited Magic Kingdom, we noticed that the sign for the show has now been covered up!
With Country Bear Jamboree and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure closed, that leaves just Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Walt Disney World Railroad open in Frontierland.
Tomorrowland Terrace is a quick-service restaurant that’s remained closed since the 2020 pandemic-related closures, but even before that, this spot was only occasionally open.
Well, it’s official — Voyage of the Little Mermaid is permanently closed in Disney World. We had suspected this was the case for some time (as it hasn’t actually been open for a few years now), but now the permanent closure has been confirmed.
Voyage of the Little Mermaid will soon become “The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure”
Disney is going to introduce a NEW show in this spot, though it will still be themed to the animated movie The Little Mermaid! The new show will be called “The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure” and is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Fall 2024.
It will be a “fully reimagined theatrical production inspired by the Walt Disney Animation Studios classic.”
Vacation Fun
Vacation Fun – An Original Animated Short with Mickey & Minnie, is a show that takes place at the Mickey Shorts Theater at Echo Lake in Hollywood Studios.
Even though we’re still waiting for the full restaurant to reopen, Annual Passholders will be able to enjoy the air conditioning, charging stations, and complimentary food and beverages. There may even be opportunities to meet “special friends” throughout V.I.Passholder Days, according to Disney. We still don’t know if it is permanently closed or if it could reopen as a restaurant, but we’ll take what we can get.
Blizzard Beach had its last open day on March 16th, 2024 before it closed for refurbishment. Blizzard Beach has nine attractions that we won’t be able to enjoy this week.
Blizzard Beach Water Park
While Blizzard Beach closed, Typhoon Lagoon opened on March 17th, 2024. The two water parks often rotate off and on for being open. Disney has not given a timeline for this new closure or how long Typhoon Lagoon will be open. We’ll be watching for any updates, though!
We’ve been to EPCOT enough times to know that the World Showcase has become a major hotspot for adults looking to eat and drink their way around the world. Mexican margarita at 4PM, followed by a French martini at 6? Say no more — we’re THERE! Who’s joining?
Frozen French Martini
In fact, drinking around the world has become such a major phenomenon that we’ve seen countless attempts to drink around the World Showcase on social media and heard many stories from people in EPCOT! If you plan to enjoy a walk around the World Showcase, you need to listen up. We just found the BEST souvenir for drinking around the world in EPCOT, and it’s available on Amazon!
DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission.
EPCOT World Showcase passport? Check. Landyard? Check. Tiny marker? Check. This has got it all, people. Everything you need to successfully record your EPCOT experience, all in one handy little book. But this isn’t like the other basic passports you may see. This one has a spot for you to record the name of your items AND rate your beverage or snack. It’s like a journal for eating and drinking!
Don’t worry — it’s got ALL the locations in the World Showcase! Whether you go to all the countries in one day or spread it out over several trips, this is such a fun way to make a memory out of your visit.
At the end, there’s even a spot for notes! We seriously cannot stop thinking about this souvenir. It’s so fun and creative, and we KNOW it’s going to be a fan favorite.
There are also a bunch of different-colored lanyards on Amazon, so if you’re traveling with a large group, everyone can get a different color, and no one will get mixed up. So, what are you waiting for? Go check it out on Amazon now!
Welcome to Data Town. OK, this isn’t really Data Town, but we are here to bring you some fresh statistics straight from Disney World. We compiled the average Disney World wait time data for the past seven days (April 26th–May 2nd), and we need to tell you the interesting trends we’ve spotted. Walt Disney World saw some interesting average wait time fluctuations this week. Most parks saw the status quo remain in place, while one saw some WILD increases.
Crowds in Animal Kingdom
Two of Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s most in-demand attractions saw double-digit increases in wait times this week, with one breaking the 90-minute barrier as Disney World’s most in-demand attraction. Ready to see the stats? Let’s go!
Take a look at this week’s average wait times — going from highest to lowest!
Magic Kingdom Wait Times
The Magic Kingdom saw wait times for the park’s most in-demand rides FALL this week, with Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Peter Pan’s Flight, Space Mountain, and Jungle Cruise all seeing slight decreases. (NOTE: Since Tron Lightcycle/Run does not currently use a standby queue, it’s not included here.)
Peter Pan’s Flight
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train — 60 minutes
Peter Pan’s Flight — 52 minutes
Jungle Cruise — 46 minutes
Space Mountain — 41 minutes
Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh — 30 minutes
Haunted Mansion — 30 minutes
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad — 26 minutes
Hello up there!
Enchanted Tales with Belle — 26 minutes
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin — 24 minutes
Astro Orbiter — 23 minutes
Pirates of the Caribbean — 18 minutes
“it’s a small world” — 16 minutes
Barnstormer featuring the Great Goofini — 14 minutes
After two weeks of rising wait times, things stabilized a bit at EPCOT week, and the wait for the ever-in-demand Frozen Ever After fell slightly. (NOTE: Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind does not currently use a standby queue, it’s not included here.)
Test Track
Frozen Ever After — 65 minutes
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure — 65 minutes
Test Track — 54 minutes
Mission: SPACE — 38 minutes
Soarin’ — 32 minutes
EPCOT
Turtle Talk with Crush — 15 minutes
Spaceship Earth — 12 minutes
The Seas with Nemo and Friends — 11 minutes
Journey into Imagination — 10 minutes
Gran Fiesta Tour — 9 minutes
Living with the Land — 9 minutes
Gran Fiesta Tour
Awesome Planet, Beauty and the Beast Sing-Along, Disney and Pixar Short Film Festival, Impressions de France, and Reflections of China had no wait times this week.
Unlike the Magic Kingdom and EPCOT, Animal Kingdom saw some MASSIVE wait time increases this week. Flight of Passage hit a resort-high average of 90 (!!) minutes, while Expedition Everest jumped to over 40 minutes.
Everything followed the status quo at Hollywood Studios this week. The park’s major attractions maintained their long waits without much fluctuation either way, as is to be expected given the park’s attraction count.
