Disney Filed a Permit for Journey Into Imagination in EPCOT — Here’s What Might Actually Change

Fans of Figment might have a reason to get excited!

Figment

Currently, EPCOT is finishing up its massive transformation, or so we thought! Just as CommuniCore Hall is about to open, taking down some of the last walls in EPCOT, it was announced that Test Track will be re-imagined and closing on June 17th, meaning that construction at EPCOT is far from over. Now, Disney just filed for a new permit for the Imagination Pavilion in EPCOT!

We know that we said Figment fans might have a reason to be excited; the keyword here is might. There have been no announcements of what this permit could entail, but we have some theories.

Hey Figment!

First, the permit was filed for the Imagination Pavilion’s address, but the Pavilion is home to more than just Journey Into Your Imagination With Figment. It also includes ImageWorks, the Figment and Joy meet and greets, the Disney and Pixar Short Film Festival, the Disney Vacation Club Member Lounge, and the Photo Spot. Since all of these share the same address, the permit could have been filed to work on any one of these things listed.

Imagination Pavilion

The permit is also listed for “general construction,” which is pretty broad, and it could mean so many different things, either minor or major. The permit also lists the contractor as Poli Construction Inc., which has done work at both Disney World and Universal.

ImageWorks

The permit expiration date also caught our eye. Most permits last a year, but this one expires on November 28th, 2025, which means that the work going on here could take a long time.

Imagination Pavilion

So, what could this permit mean? While we do not have any confirmation, we have a few ideas.

Imagination Pavilion

We hope Journey Into Imagination With Figment gets a much-needed upgrade. While we love that our favorite purple dragon still has a ride, it could use some love, and with over a year on the permit, it is possible that the ride could see some upgrades.

FIGMENT!

Another scenario could be that ImageWorks is being updated. The technology in the “What If” Labs is very outdated and sometimes does not work. ImageWorks has recently seen some changes as the Figment meet and greet replaced the Wreck it Ralph meet and greet.

ImageWorks

Poli Construction Inc.’s recent work includes Trail’s End improvements at Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. In the upstairs area of the Imagination Pavilion, Disney Vacation Club Members can enjoy an exclusive lounge with stunning views of EPCOT and free snacks and drinks. Since Poli Construction Inc. recently worked on a restaurant, maybe they would be a good fit to work on the Disney Vacation Club Lounge.

DVC lounge in EPCOT

Over at the Disney and Pixar Short Film Festival, the theater could be being refurbished. As we mentioned, this area is still part of the Imagination Pavilion, so it is entirely possible that the construction might not be in the same building.

Disney and Pixar Short Film Festival

You can also meet Mickey in the Disney and Pixar Short Film Festival Theater, but you can also sometimes meet him elsewhere nearby. The Imagination Pavilion is also home to the Photo Spot, where Disney Visa Cardholders can meet certain characters with little to no wait. When CommuniCore Hall opens on June 10th, it will also be home to the Mickey and Friends meet and greet. Maybe Disney will move the Disney Visa Cardholder meet and greet spot to CommuniCore Hall as well as Mickey’s meet and greet here, leaving the Photo Spot open for construction.

Mickey Mouse meeting at the Disney and Pixar Short Film Festival

While these are all “what ifs,” Disney does have an earnings call on May 7th, and the D23 fan convention is coming up in August. Both of those events are times when Disney often drops big news, so maybe this permit is the first step in a big announcement! We will make sure to keep you updated about any other news pertaining this permit at the Imagination Pavilion!

Every Single Change That Has Been Made to EPCOT During Its Transformation Era

May 4th Is a BIG Day for Disney’s Hollywood Studios Fans, and We’ll Be GLUED to Our Phones

May the 3rd be with you! Oh wait, too early…but, we do have some important news if you will be heading to Disney’s Hollywood Studios tomorrow, May 4th, in celebration of Star Wars Day.

It is almost Star Wars Day!

If you are hoping to get your hands on some special Star Wars Day merchandise during your day at Hollywood Studios, you will want to read this post! It is very important, trust us.

May 4th is also known as Star Wars Day, because May the 4th be with you! The special day is fast approaching, and we want you to be prepared to celebrate. Hollywood Studios has various special offerings, including exclusive merchandise. However, if you are hoping to buy some merchandise, you will need to plan ahead a bit.

Rise of the Resistance

Hollywood Studios will be utilizing a virtual queue for its May the 4th Merchandise Event. This virtual queue will be very similar to the virtual queue you would get for TRON Lightcycle / Run or Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. We have also seen this type of queue recently for the Hollywood Studios 35th Anniversary Merchandise Event. You must have valid theme park admission to Disney’s Hollywood Studios (including a park reservation if applicable). You will be able to join the virtual queue through the My Disney Experience app beginning at 7AM ET on May 4th, 2024. You can join the queue from anywhere.

Hollywood Studios 35th Anniversary Event

You will ONLY be able to join the queue at 7AM, there will be no option to join the queue at 1PM. So, make sure you are up early in the morning if you want to shop the merchandise. We do also want to note that getting a virtual queue does not guarantee access to the event or that the merchandise you want will be available. The merchandise is all subject to availability, so just keep that in mind.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

Here are a few tips on joining a virtual queue:

  • Download the My Disney Experience app and ensure location services are turned on. Visit the “Virtual Queues” section in the app to begin.
  • Make sure your valid park admission is linked in the My Disney Experience App (and you have a park reservation, if applicable). Also, make sure you are linked with everyone in your party who wants to attend the merchandise event.
  • You can join starting at 7AM ET and you do NOT need to be at Disney’s Hollywood Studios to join. We recommend starting to refresh the page a bit prior to 7AM to make sure you are ready right when the clock strikes 7AM.

We hope you have a wonderful time during Star Wars Day, and May the 4th be with you! Stay tuned to DFB for more Disney World news!

FIRST LOOK: Disney Announces 10 NEW Menu Items at Two Popular EPCOT Restaurants

One of the best parts of going to Disney World, at least for us, is the food.

EPCOT

After all, we wrote a whole BLOG about it. We get especially excited when Disney World announces new food, like new seasonal snacks and treats, and new menu items at restaurants. Well, we’ve got some exciting news to share on that front: two EPCOT restaurants have added some NEW food to their menus!

First, we’re heading over to The Seas with Nemo and Friends to see what’s new at Coral Reef Restaurant. Now, we’ve previously noted the menu changes here, but here’s a first look at the new dishes. First up is the Coconut Fried Shrimp with Mango Chutney for $18.

Here’s a look at the new Grilled Chicken Wings with Jamaican-spiced Rum Glaze and Green Onions for $15.

©Disney

The Seafood Boil has also been added to the menu. You get Shrimp, Mussels, Clams, Andouille Sausage, Sweet Corn, and Potatoes for $34.

©Disney

A new dessert was added, too. Meet the Key West Sunset, a Key Lime Tart with Chantilly and Raspberries for $10.

©Disney

A new non-alcoholic drink is also available: the Pineapple Sunset made with Minute Maid Orange Juice, ginger beer, and Sprite for $5.49.

©Disney

Over in the Canada Pavilion, Le Cellier also got some new food, including the Butcher’s Cut 28 oz. Rib-eye Steak for Two for $115. That is a LOT of steak, y’all!

©Disney

Although we’re not currently seeing this on the online menu, Disney has also added Roasted Bone Marrow at Le Cellier.

©Disney

You can get a Steakhouse Wedge Salad with tomatoes, bacon lardons, edamame, ranch dressing, blue cheese, and crispy onions for $16.

©Disney

The Canadian Cove P.E.I. Mussels are served with Vadouvan curry, yogurt, herb pistou, and pommes frites for $21.

©Disney

For dessert, there’s a Profiterole made with Craquelin, cheesecake inlay, marionberry, and sorrel for $14.

14 Million Reviewers Named the Top 100 Brunch Restaurants, and One Is Coming SOON to Disney World

We were so excited when we first learned that The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers was coming to Disney World.

In addition to sweet and savory items, the new table service restaurant will even offer an afternoon tea service plus a champagne bar. It will serve lunch and dinner, as well as brunch. Speaking of brunch, the restaurant was just awarded a huge honor, naming it one of the best brunches in America.

The Cake Bake Shop, which has a location in Indianapolis and Carmel, Indiana, was recently voted by OpenTable as one of the top places for brunch in the U.S. This list was assembled from statistics compiled from over 14 million reviews on OpenTable, so it’s a huge honor for the restaurant. So, yes, it’s a pretty big deal.

The Cake Bake Shop in Indianapolis

As we mentioned, The Cake Bake Shop in Disney World will also be serving brunch, and now we’re getting even more impatient for the restaurant to open. The last opening timeline we heard was early 2024, but we’re almost past that and into summer. We have seen hiring notices for the restaurant at Disney World, so that’s usually a good sign a dining location will open soon.

Construction is Coming Along

You can bet the MINUTE it opens, we’ll be there to try out EVERYTHING. We’re pretty excited about this one, so we’ll keep you in the loop when we get more details about its opening on Disney’s BoardWalk.

Until then, stay tuned to DFB for more.
