REVIEW: Does Disney’s NEWEST Restaurant Have One of Our FAVORITE BURGERS YET?

There are lots of dining options in Downtown Disney, and we always get excited when a new restaurant opens. Well, today is an exciting day because we are headed to check out a new restaurant.

It is time to eat!

We have been anticipating the opening of this restaurant for a while, and it is officially open, so you know we had to try it out!

We are headed to Céntrico in Downtown Disney today! Michelin-starred Chef Carlos Gaytan has crafted a menu full of Mexican-inspired cuisine for both Céntrico and Paseo. Céntrico is a courtyard bar and restaurant, while Paseo is the upstairs dining room.

Céntrico

Céntrico invites diners to come together over an unforgettable meal and indulge in Mexican-inspired dishes. The restaurant has been designed to capture the spirit of a Mexican hacienda with delicious cuisine and wonderful hospitality.

Atmosphere

Céntrico is an open-air design that overlooks the Downtown Disney District. There is a bar and lots of outdoor seating. You can see lots of wooden elements throughout the restaurant that reminiscent of the Mexican hacienda.

Bar Area

In addition to the bar area, there is a large seating area that also has tables that would work well for big groups. The dining experience is definitely full of activity, from both the restaurant and Downtown Disney. We liked the setting, but if you are wanting a quiet and peaceful meal, this may not be the best option.

Inside Céntrico

We were so impressed with how friendly and helpful the staff was. They were more than happy to answer all our questions and provided us with lots of good recommendations.

Let’s get to the menu!

Now, let’s see what is on the menu!

Menu

The menu has a variety of options, all with a Mexican flair. You can find some of the classics like quesadillas, tacos, and burritos. But you can also find items such as a Mexican Truffle Quesadilla, Chef Carlos’ BBQ Ribs, and a Céntrico Hamburger.

Céntrico Menu

The main dishes also have a lot of variety, and you can get items ranging from a Caesar Salad to a Huarache de Hongos. There is also a kid’s menu that includes dishes like chicken tacos, chicken tenders, tres queso mac & cheese, quesadillas, and burritos.

More Options at Céntrico

In addition to the food menu, Céntrico also has a very large drinks menu. You can choose from a variety of cocktails and margaritas

Céntrico Drink Menu

beer and wine

Lots of drink options!

…as well as tequila, mezcal, and additional beverages.

Even more options!

Now that we have explored the menu, let’s move onto the food!

Food

We started off with the Guacamole which is fresh creamy avocado, pico de gallo, queso fresco, and tortilla chips. This dish is vegetarian and costs $16.

Gucamole

We really enjoyed this appetizer! There is lots of flavor and good textures. The chips tasted fresh, and they were crisp with just the right amount of salt.

Tortilla Chips

The guacamole has chunks of avocado, but the base is smooth and creamy. The queso fresco on top added a great touch to the dish.

Gucamole

Next up, we are starting our dinner escapade with Quesapastor Quesadillas and Chicken Taquitos.

Quesapastor and Chicken Taquitos

First up is the Quesapastor Quesadillas which is fresh corn tortilla, pork al pastor, Oaxacan cheese, onion, cilantro, avocado mousse, and salsa roja. This dish is made without gluten and costs $21.

Quesapastor

Yummy! The Quesapastor had lots of crunchy cheese paired with tender pork. The pork has a great flavor to it, but this dish was mild overall. The red salsa added a bit more extra flavor, but it was not spicy either.

Cheesy goodness!

Moving onto the Chicken Taquitos which are four lightly fried corn tortillas, with marinated chicken, sour cream, queso fresco, salsa verde, and avocado. This dish is also made without gluten and costs $18.

Chicken Taquitos

This dish was also really tasty. We thought the Quesapastor had a slight edge, but both of these dishes were yummy. The Chicken Taquitos had lots of really fresh toppings which added a brightness to the dish. The taquitos were perfectly fried and did not feel or taste greasy. There was a generous portion of chicken inside which was spiced just right.

Lots of fresh ingredients

Now, we aren’t stopping with just three dishes. Oh no, we have lots more to go! With the next round of food, we are trying the Burrito Norteño, Mexican Street Corn, and Céntrico Hamburger.

There is more!

Let’s kick this next round of food off with the Burrito Norteño. The burrito contains braised short ribs, crispy Oaxacan cheese, pinto beans, tomatillo & Chile de arbol salsa, sour cream, queso fresco, and avocado. This dish costs $24.

Burrito Norteño

This burrito is very filling! It is jam-packed with meat and a great entree choice. The meat was tender and full of flavor. We loved the burnt cheese finish on the tortilla and the refried beans inside were fantastic too.

Look at all that filling!

Next up is the Mexican Street Corn. This dish is made with local fresh corn, epazote, garlic aïoli, chili powder, and lime juice. This dish is vegetarian, made without gluten, and costs $8. We think this dish is a must-get. We loved the lime juice and addition of garlic aïoli. The garlic aïoli added just the right amount of garlic flavor without being overwhelming. The corn was fresh and paired well with the brightness of the lime juice and slight kick of the chili powder.

Mexican Street Corn

Next up is the Céntrico Hamburger. The burger is made with Wagyu beef burger on a brioche bun with Gruyère cheese, pickled yellow beets, oven-roasted tomato, truffle aïoli, black truffle sauce, and jalapenos. It is served with Garlic Butter French Fries. This dish is made without gluten and costs $26.

Céntrico Hamburger

The Céntrico Hamburger is not for the faint of heart. It packs a serious kick with a hint of sweetness. However, the toppings are amazing, and we think this burger is wonderful. The patty is thick and there was a generous number of toppings.

Lookin’ good!

There is no lack of flavor in this burger and the toppings all go well together. Although be careful as the jalapenos pack a punch, and we noticed that they weren’t even included in the ingredients on the menu. However, if you are okay with some heat, this burger is excellent.

Our mouth is watering!

The Garlic Butter Fries were just okay. We had high hopes for these, but they didn’t knock our socks off. We were surprised by the size of them, but the overall flavor was kind of flat. If you are saying garlic and butter, we REALLY want to taste the garlic and the butter! We wouldn’t recommend going out of your way for them, but we did still enjoy them.

Garlic Butter French Fries

Now we are moving on to one of the best parts of the meal, dessert! Céntrico does not have an official dessert menu yet, so we asked our server for her recommendation. We got the Guava Pavlova, which is horchata foam with guava and mango puree and topped with edible flowers.

Guava Pavlova

First off, this dessert is gorgeous. The edible flowers add lots of bright colors to the dessert. But just wait until you see what happens once you tap it open!

It is so pretty!

The chef recommended we tap it before we ate it, and we are so glad he did. It almost looks even prettier broken open, kind of like an abstract painting.

The chef recommended we tap it before eating.

The Guava Pavlova was such an interesting dessert. It was tart and sweet, with a little bit of spice from the cinnamon in the horchata foam. It tasted really fresh, plus it was a lot of fun to break open! The flowers were pretty, but we felt like they kind of got stuck in our teeth and did not add much flavor-wise. It was unlike anything we have really tried before, and the flavors all worked well together.

Overall

Overall, we had a great experience dining at Céntrico. The staff was all incredibly helpful giving us recommendations and answering any questions we had. Our server was also fabulous and was super attentive. We loved the modern atmosphere of the restaurant as well as the outdoor setting. There are lots of different table options, as well as big tables for groups. We really enjoyed all of the food and we felt like the ingredients were all super fresh. Some of our favorites include the Mexican Street Corn, Céntrico Hamburger, Burrito Norteño, and Guava Pavlova. However, we also don’t think you can go wrong with any of the dishes we tried. It is on the pricier side, but we think the food is really high quality and we left feeling very satisfied.

Nosh or Not?

You might want to stop by Céntrico if…

  • You love Mexican-inspired food. The menu was created by Chef Carlos Gaytan and features lot of Mexican flair. We loved the unique combinations of flavors, and if you are a fan of Mexican flavors, we think you would really enjoy this restaurant.
  • You want to enjoy some good, fresh food while sitting outdoors. We loved all the fresh ingredients and thoroughly enjoyed all our food. The seating is outdoors, so this would be a great option if you are hoping to get some food & drink while enjoying the outdoors.
  • You want a restaurant that would be good for groups. We saw lots of good seating options for larger groups, so this could also be a great choice if you are traveling with a larger party and are looking for somewhere to eat.

You may opt for somewhere else if…

  • You want a quiet and peaceful dining experience. The seating is all outdoors and overlooking the Downtown Disney District. There is a lot of hustle and bustle going on around you, so if you are looking for a quiet dining experience, this would not be a good choice for you.
  • You do not want Mexican-inspired food. Chef Carlos Gaytan infused lots of Mexican flair into his menu, so if you aren’t in the mood for Mexican-inspired food, you will likely want to pass on this restaurant.
  • You are on a budget. While not the most expensive option you could find, Céntrico is a bit on the pricier side. Main dishes range in price from $16 to $34, while tacos will cost you between $18 to $24. The food is great quality, but if you are looking to stay within a certain budget, this may not be the best option.

Thanks for coming along with us to try out Céntrico! We had a great experience, and we can’t wait for our next food adventure. Until then, make sure you stay tuned to DFB for the latest Disney food news!

3 Earthquakes Have Hit Disneyland in the Last Year. Here’s What To Do If One Happens While You’re in the Parks.

Disneyland takes natural emergency prep seriously.

Disneyland

While a visit to a Disney park is supposed to be the a break from the harsh realities of the “real” world – there’s a reason that Disneyland has long been nicknamed the Happiest Place on Earth after all – unfortunately sometimes reality breaking into the parks is unavoidable. However, when it comes to natural disasters, Disney is prepared.

Over the last several months, at least three major earthquakes have been strong enough to be felt on the ground at the Disneyland Resort. The first was back in December of 2023. On the 4th, a 3.5 magnitude earthquake hit one mile east of Fullerton, California, with shaking feet throughout Southern California including Disneyland.

Disneyland

The next, and first of 2024, was on February 9th, when a 4.6-magnitude earthquake struck the Southern California coast near Malibu.

The third was just this past week, when a 4.1 magnitude quake struck on May 1st. The quake epicenter was three miles from Anaheim, and it was by most accounts the strongest of the three as far as being felt in Disneyland.

On both occasions, Disneyland enacted the protocols the park has in place for such an event. All of the parks rides, attractions, and structures were shut down and evacuated, and each had to pass an inspection to verify its structural integrity before guest clearance was given, and normal operations resumed.

While earthquakes in California are relatively common – according to a USGS survey, an average of “25 earthquakes with magnitudes between 4.0 and 5.0 occur each year in California and Nevada.”

Main Street, U.S.A. in Disneyland

If you’re ever caught in an earthquake – whether at Disneyland or anywhere else – the U.S. government has provided guidelines of advice on what do. Their recommendations include:

-If you are in a car, pull over and stop. Set your parking brake.

-If you are in bed, turn face down and cover your head and neck with a pillow.

-If you are outdoors, stay outdoors away from buildings.

-If you are inside, stay and do not run outside and avoid doorways.

-Drop down to your hands and knees and hold onto something sturdy.

-Cover your head and neck with your arms.

-If seated and unable to drop to the floor, bend forward, cover your head with your arms and hold on to your neck with both hands.

Also, if you are unfortunate enough to be at Disneyland during an earthquake – or any Disney park during a natural disaster – be sure to LISTEN to any and all instructions from trained cast members, and follow what they say.

California Adventure entrance

No one wants to be stuck in an earthquake or other natural disaster – especially at a Disney theme park – but taking safety precautions and listening to cast members are the keys to safely surviving one if you are. Stay tuned to DFB for more Disneyland updates.

Disney World’s New Backstage Tour Is Nearly $300 — Is It Worth It?

There’s a BRAND-NEW behind-the-scenes tour in Disney World!

Disney Springs

If you’ve ever taken one of Disney’s backstage tours, you know how intriguing they can be! You’ll often get the chance to learn fun facts and the history of the parks while visiting areas that regular ticket holders don’t get to see. And if that sounds like fun to you, then you need to know about Disney World’s newest tour!

Cirque du Soleil in Disney Springs is offering a brand-new VIP tour — the Page to Stage Signature Experience. This offering will include tickets to the show, commemorative souvenirs, snacks, and a backstage tour of the theater.

Let’s go to Cirque du Soleil!

In honor of the new VIP offering, Cirque du Soleil invited us out to try the whole experience. My visit began with a first look at the two souvenirs included with the Page to Stage Signature Experience. First, there’s a commemorative Drawn to Life pin for each person in the group.

Commemorative pin

Each participant will also get the exclusive Cirque du Soleil popcorn bucket! When you pick this up at concessions, you’ll be able to get the snack and beverage of your choice, included in the price of the ticket.

Popcorn Bucket

The Page to Stage Signature Experience is only offered following the late performances on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Tickets are $285 for adults and $225 for children, and with your ticket, you’ll get premium seating. Only 9 spots are available for each tour, and the seats are located on the back row of this front section in the theater.

Tour guests will sit on this row

The tour begins right after the show, and your guide will begin by giving you a history of Cirque du Soleil and Drawn to Life as a show, which pays homage to Disney Animation.

©Cirque Du Soleil

From there, you’ll head downstairs to the basement, where your tour group will have the opportunity to meet, greet, and interview some performers from the show. These performers will vary depending on the show, but we got to meet Mr. Pencil and the violinist!

Meet and greet!

The next stop on the tour was the wall of signatures, which is signed by every performer, technician, and manager who has worked on this show. Signatures in gold are the performers who originated their roles. You might also spot some celebrity signatures from people who visited Drawn to Life!

The wall of signatures

Other highlights in the basement hallway included the incredible costume department! All the costumes here start completely white and are then screen-printed or dyed to create the looks you see on stage.

Costume Department

To wash all those clothes takes dozens of loads of laundry, but none of the costumes are thrown in the dryer! Afterward, they hang them up on drying racks in one of the training rooms so that they’re ready for the performers.

Drying Racks

From there, we entered into my favorite part of the tour…under the stage! We got to see several of the desk props and the lifts that carry the set pieces and performers onto the stage.

The lifts underneath the stage

Seriously, this was the coolest thing ever!

The desks under the stage

We wrapped up our tour with a visit backstage, behind the curtain. There, we spotted everything from props to costumes to safety harnesses.

More props backstage

We even got to learn a little bit about the motion tracking technology that allows images to be projected onto some of the performer costumes. It was truly fascinating!

These giant paper “sheets” use motion tracking

So if you’re a big theater fan or you just love a backstage tour, I would highly recommend this experience for your next visit to Disney Springs. I learned so much and left with an even deeper appreciation for the talent and skill that these performers, technicians, and stage managers have.

REVIEW: Disney’s NEW Dole Whip Cocktail Requires a JOURNEY

Can you believe that Disney Cruise Line is getting ready to open its new island destination in just a few short months?

©Disney

Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point is Disney’s new island destination opening this summer, and we can’t wait to get a chance to visit it for ourselves. However, we have gotten a sneak peek at what we can expect to experience on the island, and WOW, we’re excited for these drinks!

Just like Disney’s existing destination, Castaway Cay, there are some dining spots on the island where you can grab a bite to eat or enjoy a cocktail if you’re looking to relax. We got a chance to try some of the drinks that will likely be featured on the island, and, of course, we are here to bring you a full review.

Lookout Cay

Smooth, rich caffeinated beverages and island getaways go together PERFECTLY, don’t you think? Who doesn’t love a little coffee indulgence on vacation? Well, that’s exactly what this Lighthouse Point Specialty Coffee brings to the table. It features Monin Hawaiian Island Illy Cold Brew, Monin Coconut Syrup, and Rich’s On Top soft Whip Topping. And if you were wondering, Rich’s On Top is GOOD (EXPENSIVE) stuff.

Lighthouse Point Specialty Coffee

This is a nice, light-roasted coffee with a big layer of whipped topping. The Monin Hawaiian Island Illy Cold Brew and Monin Coconut Syrup bring a distinctive flavor with a somewhat fruity undertone to create that sweetness. This drink was complex and interesting — especially for a coffee beverage. Note that the coconut syrup is pretty strong, so be prepared for a heavy flavor. Overall, this was a sweet, rich drink that we enjoyed!

YUM!

We also got to try the non-alcoholic Lighthouse Point Specialty Beverage! This one is essentially just a fun little lemonade drink with a hint of tea (like an Arnold Palmer). There’s a shiny blue topping on this drink, which was added to reflect the sparkling water on the island. If you like iced tea lemonade drinks, you will probably love this little beverage!

Lighthouse Point Specialty Beverage

Time for a cocktail! Meet the Eleuthera Euphoria — made with aged rum with pineapple and Dole Whip, topped with a pineapple gummy. Yep, that’s right. This one has DOLE WHIP! If you’re wondering how it tastes, it reminded us of a pineapple-y pina colada. Tropical, cool, and perfect for a day at the beach! We’ll be daydreaming about this one for a WHILE. Why can’t ALL drinks have Dole Whip — right?!

Eleuthera Euphoria

Disney also confirmed that Lookout Cay will serve ice cream and chicken tenders on the island. Look out for returning Castaway Cay favorites, plus some Bahamian-inspired offerings (with some special spices, too!). Lookout Cay is set to open in Summer 2024 for select sailings, so get ready for tons of port adventures, character encounters, and chances to relax in the Bahamian sun.

As always, stay tuned to DFB for all the latest Disney news!

What are you most looking forward to trying? Tell us in the comments!

Summer Tribute Store Teasers Appear at Universal Studios Florida

Universal Orlando Resort is gearing up for an incredible summer full of new experiences, including a new Tribute Store. Details in the Mardi Gras Tribute Store hinted that the summer Tribute Store would be full of movies and possibly be themed to “Mega Video Rentals“. As we get closer to the opening of this brand new Tribute Store, a few new teasers have appeared in the windows.

Summer Tribute Store Teasers

Studio Styles entrance of the Tribute Store at Universal Studios Florida

The Summer Tribute Store will tie in with the new Universal Mega Movie Parade and will celebrate several different movies. There are no signs of the new Tribute Store facade, but there are some teasers in the windows!

A small squirrel statue, representing Earl the Squirrel, in the window of the summer Tribute Store

There’s a familiar face peeking out of the window on the right side of Studio Styles. Earl the Squirrel has arrived! Earl is an icon here at the Universal Orlando Resort, based on a real squirrel. Years ago, a squirrel would mess with the Christmas lights on the tree at Universal Studios Florida. Eventually, Universal Orlando embraced the story of Earl the Squirrel and would hide a fake squirrel in the Christmas tree every year. Even though Earl the Squirrel is typically associated with the Christmas season, he does like to hide in (or take over) the Tribute Store.

Another window near the Williams of Hollywood entrance has another teaser for the movie-themed Tribute Store.

A stack of VHS tapes in the window of the summer Tribute Store

There is a stack of VHS tapes in the Williams of Hollywood window, keeping with the video rental store theme. It looks like Earl has been messing with the VHS tapes, though.

Full details have not been announced yet, but the summer Tribute Store is expected to feature movies like ‘Ghostbusters,’ ‘Jaws,’ and ‘Back to the Future.’ Universal Orlando Resort has a lot happening this summer, so be sure to stay tuned for all the updates!

New Die-Cast Star Tours Starspeeder 1000 Figure at Walt Disney World

A new die-cast figure of the Starspeeder 1000 from Star Tours is available at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Die-Cast Starspeeder 1000 – $17.99

Die-Cast Starspeeder 1000, a red-orange and white spaceship from the Star Tours "Star Wars" ride

The die-cast vehicle includes a black plastic stand featuring the Star Tours logo. The ship is a burnt orange color with white stripes down the side and black on the bottom. This die-cast model is larger than the usual model of Starspeeder 1000 that’s been sold in gift shops for years.

The front of the Starspeeder 1000 seen through a plastic window in a black cardboard box

A version of the triangular Star Tours logo without the name is on the hood of the ship. Below the logo is “Starspeeder 1000.”

Back and underside of Starspeeder 1000 figure seen through plastic window of black packaging

The Starspeeder 1000 “replaced” the Starpseeder 3000 when Star Tours became Star Tours: The Adventure Continues in 2011. The 3000 model was identical in shape but white with blue stripes.

The toy is available in Tatooine Traders, the exit shop of Star Tours.

Disney is celebrating “Star Wars” in the lead-up to May the 4th, a.k.a. Star Wars Day. Other new “Star Wars” merchandise includes the artist series by Will Gay, the Sands of Tatooine collection, and more Star Tours-inspired items. A month before May the 4th, the ride received new scenes featuring Ahsoka Tano, Cassian Andor, Din Djarin, and Grogu.
