One year ago this week, Walt Disney World made the surprise announcement that it would be permanently closing Galactic Starcruiser, its “Star Wars hotel.” This came amidst struggles filling ‘voyages’ despite discounting, but was nevertheless surprising that it happened so fast. The closure of Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser itself was not a shock–we predicted that […]
According to Deadline, tracking of Disney and Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” indicates it will have the biggest domestic box office year-to-date.
‘Inside Out 2’ Poised to Have Biggest Domestic Box Office of 2024
“Inside Out 2” will be released on June 14, Father’s Day weekend. Experts predict its three-day opening will be between $80 million and $85 million, potentially beating “Dune Part Two” ($82.5 million) and “Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire ($80 million).
If “Inside Out 2” is successful, it would be big news for Disney and Pixar. Films from both studios have been underperforming since COVID-19 hit, including Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Wish” last winter and Pixar’s “Elemental” last summer.
“Inside Out” (2015) made $90.4 million in its first weekend and $858.8 million total worldwide. It won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature.
The first 35 minutes of the sequel were shown to exhibitors at CinemaCon in April “to great laughs.” Deadline says, “It’s totally a step up from the first movie.”
“Inside Out 2” is directed by Kelsey Mann from a screenplay by Meg LeFauve and Dave Holstein. It stars Amy Poehler as Joy, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, Lewis Black as Anger, Tony Hale as Fear (replacing Bill Hader), Liza Lapira as Disgust (replacing Mindy Kaling), Maya Hawke as Anxiety, Ayo Edebiri as Envy, Adèle Exarchopoulos as Ennui, and Paul Walter Hauser as Embarrassment.

“Fantasmic!” is mostly the same as it was prior to the April 2023 fire but there are two major changes, which Disney previously announced. The “Peter Pan” sequence using the Sailing Ship Columbia was restored. In 2016, the “Peter Pan” section was replaced with a Pirates of the Caribbean sequence.
At the end of the show, Mickey still battles Maleficent. However, she stays in her humanoid form instead of transforming into a dragon. Maleficent is lifted 35 feet into the air by a rising tower, putting her approximately at the same height as her dragon figure.
The exit music that plays after the show is the original from 1992.
Watch our video of the updated “Fantasmic!” at Disneyland below.
“Fantasmic!” History
“Fantasmic!” debuted at Disneyland Park on May 13, 1992. Another version opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida on October 15, 1998. A third version ran at Tokyo DisneySea from April 28, 2011, to February 29, 2020.
During the climactic sequence of “Fantasmic!” at Disneyland on April 22, 2023, the Maleficent dragon burst into flames. The dragon already tended to break down, leading to fans aptly naming it “Murphy” after Murphy’s Law: “Anything that can go wrong will go wrong.”
