REVIEW: Fantasmic! Dining Package at Blue Bayou Leaves a Lot to be Desired

With the return of “Fantasmic!” comes the return of “Fantasmic!” dining packages. We had lunch at Blue Bayou Restaurant as part of a “Fantasmic!” dining package on the first day of the show’s return.

‘Fantasmic!’ Dining Package Details

Blue Bayou Restaurant sign illuminated at night

The Blue Bayou dining package at Disneyland Park is $89 per adult and $35 per child. It includes a multi-course meal at Blue Bayou Restaurant and reserved seating for viewing “Fantasmic!” Guests can choose lunch (starting at 11 a.m.) or dinner (starting at 4 p.m.). It’s available to book online.

Blue Bayou Dining Package Menu

Image of two adult lunch menus from a restaurant called Fantasy, listing starters, entrees, sweet selections, and wine pairings with prices. The menus are placed on a dark granite surface.

The dining package menu features a selection of items from Blue Bayou’s regular menu. It is not the same food that Disney announced originally for the package. Here is what is available on the adult menu:

Starters

  • Chicken Gumbo
  • Heirloom Tomato & Watermelon Salad
  • Strawberry & Pistachio Salad

Entrées

  • Blackened Ribeye & Bourbon Shrimp (additional $10)
  • Sustainable Market Fish
  • Creole Roasted Chicken
  • Pistachio Lemon-Basil Pasta
  • Monte Cristo

Sweet Selections

  • Chocolate Decadence Tart
  • Crème Brûlée Tart
  • Seasonal Sorbet

The meal includes bread service, a starter, an entrée, and a dessert.

We previously reviewed Blue Bayou’s Monte Cristo.

A restaurant menu titled "Kids' Lunch/Dinner." Options include various starters, entrees, sides, and desserts. The price is $35, and it includes allergy and special diet information.

Here is the kids’ menu, which includes one starter, one entrée, two “selections,” and one dessert with DASANI water or low-fat milk:

Starters

  • Vegetable Crudité
  • Cup of Chicken Gumbo

Entrées

  • Roasted Chicken
  • Sautéed Shrimp
  • Whole-Grain Pasta
  • Petite Steak

Selections

  • Market Vegetables
  • Seasonal Fruit
  • Steamed Rice
  • Mashed Potatoes

Desserts

  • Berries
  • Petite Sundae

Drinks

Three drinks on a table: a glass of water with ice, a glass of a light-colored beverage with ice, and a glass of a dark-colored beverage with ice. A lit lamp is in the center.

Though not listed on the menu, each adult meal does include a soft drink.

Bread Service

A menu beside a square white plate with two butter sticks, a cup of red sauce, and a loaf of bread on a granite surface evoking a Blue Bayou dining experience.
A hand holding a piece of bread, broken in half, over a white plate. The bread appears soft and fluffy, almost fantasmic in its texture.

Rating out of 7: 6

Sadly, the bread service ended up being the best part of the main meal. The bread was light and fluffy and had a lot of flavor provided by the rosemary. The butter was salty, but spread nicely. The strawberry jelly was incredible.

Starters

Chicken Gumbo

Tasso ham, andouille sausage, and peppers with steamed rice

A bowl of Chicken Gumbo garnished with white rice and chopped green herbs, placed on a white saucer on a grey speckled table, next to a menu and a glass of water.

Rating out of 7: 5.5

We found this to be the best option of all the starters. The serving is on the small side, but it was incredibly flavorful, with broth that had just the right amount of spice. The ham added a ton of amazing flavor and packed a bit of a punch. Overall, this was quite delicious.

Heirloom Tomato & Watermelon Salad

Greens, agave crema, and pickled watermelon rind & shallot vinaigrette

A fresh salad with cucumber slices, watermelon, arugula, and cheese is served on a white plate at Blue Bayou with a menu and glass in the background.

Rating out of 7: 5

This salad was a little weird, with the watermelon providing an overwhelming flavor. The tomatoes were not the best quality, but, on the plus side, the pickled watermelon rind was delicious and the shallot vinaigrette added a very nice little kick. The portion was decent, especially for a starter, and, despite the fact that it was on the weird side, it was still pretty good.

Strawberry & Pistachio Salad

Toasted quinoa, blue cheese, and purple radish with aged balsamic

A plate of mixed salad with strawberries, radishes, greens, crumbled cheese, and pistachios on a dark tabletop. A fork and napkin rest to the side.

Rating out of 7: 3

If we had to describe this salad in one word, it would be “sandy.” There were too many grainy elements in the salad with the quinoa, pistachio bits, and blue cheese. The balsamic had a nice flavor, but it really couldn’t make up for the distracting texture of the salad itself.

Entrées

Blackened Ribeye & Bourbon Shrimp – additional $10

Mashed potatoes, seasonal vegetables, herbed marrow butter, peppercorn demi and bourbon demi

A plated meal featuring a grilled ribeye topped with herb butter with shrimp, broccolini, and mashed potatoes. It's on a restaurant table at Blue Bayou, with a menu partially visible underneath the plate.

Rating out of 7: 4

This offering is an additional $10 on the already $89 Dining Package. While the steak butter was nice, the steak itself was extremely fatty and not the best quality. The portions that were edible were cooked well, but there was such an exuberant amount of fat. The potatoes were also delicious but certainly not $100 delicious. The peppercorn and bourbon demi was absolutely flavorless. We do think it was an amazing portion size.

Creole Roasted Chicken

Andouille sausage, roasted shrimp, creole rice, and creole sauce

A plated dish featuring grilled shrimp and creole roasted chicken on a bed of seasoned rice, garnished with a fried crispy topping and sitting in a tomato-based sauce with green onions sprinkled on top.

Rating out of 7: 5.5

We thought this was the best entrée of the bunch, but that’s not saying much. The chicken was well cooked, but somewhat bland, and the “creole sauce” was just slightly spicy tomato sauce. The rice was dense and had a weird flavor to it, but it was somehow less disgusting on the other entrées.

Pistachio Lemon-Basil Pasta

Asparagus, squash blossoms, pea tendrils, and cherry tomatoes in a pistachio-basil pesto

A plate of lemon-basil green spaghetti, garnished with yellow squash blossoms and seasoned vegetables with a bread roll to the side.

Rating out of 7: 3

While the pasta and the vegetables were nicely cooked, the flavors of this dish were lacking. The pesto was so bland that we ended up asking for salt and pepper shakers to add some flavor to the pasta.

Desserts

Chocolate Decadence Tart

Dark chocolate-coffee custard with a chocolate cookie crust, topped with a mousse rock and Mickey decoration

A chocolate dessert topped with a white mousse dome and a figure of Mickey Mouse dressed as a wizard, reminiscent of Fantasmic, on a white plate from the Blue Bayou.

Rating out of 7: 7

Surprisingly, the absolute best item from this meal was the Mickey chocolate tart. In fact, it is one of the best items we’ve had at a Disney table service restaurant. It had an amazing dark chocolate flavor. The chocolate syrup topping was crunchy, delicious, and flavorful — all the things you would want from a dessert. The mousse rock was difficult to crack into, but when we did, we discovered it had a raspberry filling. The mousse was fine, but the chocolate tart is the real star of the show.

Overall

A hand holding a wand accessory in front of a store entrance with people walking by, reminiscent of a scene from Blue Bayou.

Rating out of 7: 2

At the end of the meal, we were given a special commemorative light-up swizzle stick with a firefly at the end. Overall, this meal left a lot to be desired. The food was averaged at best, with the only amazing option being a dessert. Though the package gives you guaranteed seating for “Fantasmic!,” we don’t think the offering matches the $90 price tag.

Disney Files NEW Permit for Country Bears Retheme at Magic Kingdom

Country Bear Jamboree was one of the opening day attractions at Magic Kingdom, opening alongside the park on October 1st, 1971.

Country Bear Jamboree

Last year, Disney announced that the attraction would be closing to make room for a new, updated version of the show — and we’ve been keeping an eye out for every update we can get since then! Disney just shared a sneak peek and more details of what we can expect from this retheme, but now we’ve got another clue that things are moving along.

We’re taking another look at recently filed permits for Disney World to get an idea of what sort of work may be going on around the property — here’s what we found this time around.

Frontierland

Disney World has filed a new permit to install signage at Grizzly Hall, the home of the Country Bear Jamboree! This is especially exciting because the original sign has gone missing, so hopefully a new sign will be put in its place soon.

Country Bear Jamboree

The original Country Bear Jamboree gave its final performance on January 26th, 2024. The new version of Country Bear Jamboree, the Country Bear Musical Jamboree, is set to debut in Summer 2024. While we don’t know exactly what the refreshed show will look like yet, other than that the bears will sing classic Disney songs in new styles like country, rockabilly, and bluegrass. We also just got a sneak peek of some of the bears’ COSTUMES!

©Disney

The refreshed attraction will be a take on classic variety shows found in Nashville, Tennessee, and Nashville musicians are involved in the new arrangements. The name of the show is receiving a slight tweak to go along with the new version as well. Instead of Country Bear Jamboree, the new version will be called Country Bear Musical Jamboree.

A new show is coming!

Everyone Else Can Go Home. Disney Just Dropped the BEST Loungefly Collection EVER.

Whoever designed this new Disney Loungefly collection deserves a round of applause. And our endless gratitude. And probably a huge raise, too.

©Loungefly

Disney comes out with new Loungefly bags all the time, and we love checking out all the new designs! But when you combine the cute and practical bags with possibly the most aesthetically pleasing and tear-jerking Pixar movie ever, it takes these souvenirs to a WHOLE NEW LEVEL.

DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission.

The newest Disney x Loungefly collection is themed to Pixar’s movie Up, which is definitely a fan-favorite. Carl and Ellie’s love story is UNBEATABLE. The music is BEAUTIFUL. And Dug is MY FAVORITE. If you can’t already tell, I’m having a very difficult time not adding every single item in this new collection to my online cart.

Some of the items from the new collection are available on Amazon, which means Prime members can get faster, FREE shipping! Not a Prime member? No worries. Just click the link below to start your free trial.

Now, let’s check out some of our favorite things from this ADORABLE new collection!

Get the Spirit of Adventure Mini Backpack

©Amazon

The Spirit of Adventure backpack features Carl and Ellie as kids, flying in a cardboard box plane. There are even little flaps on the sides of the backpack for the “wings.”

©Amazon

One of the best details is the zipper pull on that front pocket — it’s Carl’s grape soda bottle cap pin. 🥹

Get the Dug “Crossbuddies” Bag

©Amazon

You had us at “crossbuddies.” This Dug crossbody bag is made of plush fabric and vegan leather, and it features the loveable pup hugging Kevin’s babies.

But here’s a fun feature: That front pocket is actually reversible, so you can flip it around and then Dug is hugging his favorite toy — tennis balls!

The crossbody strap is adjustable and removable, so you can fix it however you want.

Get the Adventure Book Wallet

Ellie’s scrapbooking skills are legendary, and you can carry around her Adventure Book scrapbook in the form of this Loungefly wallet!

Get the Carl and Ellie Cameo Backpack

©Loungefly

This backpack is one of the best things in the collection, in our opinion! The front has a gilded frame with a picture of Carl and Ellie’s house at Paradise Falls. When you open that frame…

©Loungefly

…you see a picture of the couple! There are clouds and balloons all around the frame with more characters from the movie, like Russel, Charles Muntz, Dug, Kevin, and more.

Get the Dug Backpack Dog Harness

©Loungefly

As a dog mom myself, I had to include this Dug Mini Backpack Harness for pups! The backpack has a main pocket and a front zipper pocket, and the harness has adjustable straps and a comfortable mesh padding.

When Will Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party Sell Out?

It might not be spooky season just yet, but we’re already getting excited about Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom.

Halloween in Disney World

Where else can you see the Haunted Mansion ghosts outside the famous attraction or scary spectres in the Boo to You Halloween parade! Between the rare character appearances, special Halloween treats, and beloved nighttime paradeMickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is a POPULAR event — so when will is sell out this year?

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is a seasonal Magic Kingdom event requiring a separate ticket for entry. This year, the event will take place on select nights from August 9th through October 31st, 2024. Once inside, guests enjoy plenty of ghoulish fun and entertainment only available at the Party! But, tickets have completely sold out for this event the past two years — in fact, we’ve already seen the first date sell out for 2024.

Happy Halloween!

So, if you’re thinking about buying tickets for this spooky affair but haven’t done so yet, you might be wondering when exactly the event will sell out entirely. And, while we don’t claim to know the future — we have been doing this for a while, so we’ve got a pretty good idea of when it might happen. We do recommend buying tickets as soon as possible to ensure you get the date you want!

Halloween night — October 31st — is already completely sold out, so you’re unfortunately out of luck if you didn’t already get tickets for that night. It’s possible Disney could release more tickets, but it’s unlikely from what we’ve seen. Typically, Halloween typically sells out first, and then the dates closest to it follow.

Main Street U.S.A. at night

In 2023, tickets for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party were sold out on every single date by the end of September. So, while you still may be able to purchase tickets well into the event’s run, you may not get the first pick of dates and have to choose from what’s left. Disney occasionally sells tickets at the gate the night of the event if there are any available, but it’s not a guarantee and not something we recommend you plan on doing!

Time for the party!

Back in 2022, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party was completely sold out by mid-September, so we can start to see a pattern here. Not only that, but all the August dates had sold out before August had even rolled around.

As we mentioned before — we can’t tell the future, so we don’t truthfully know when or if Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party will sell out in 2024, but with the first date already selling out this early it’s entirely possible this year could be actually quite scary in terms of tickets selling out!

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party sign in 2022

If you’re interested in attending this year’s event, make sure you get those tickets ASAP — especially if you want to go in late October or close to Halloween (since the dates closest to Halloween tend to sell out first). You can see the full list of available dates by clicking here.

Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter Pool & Mardi Grogs Bar Reopen After Refurbishment

Doubloon Lagoon pool, the Aquatic Play Area, and Mardi Grogs pool bar at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter are back open after a routine refurbishment. They closed in February.

Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter Refurbishments

Costumed characters depicting colorful cartoon alligators march down a palm tree-lined walkway with musical instruments in hand.

A Mardi Gras band of alligator figures leads guests to the pool area.

A jester statue stands in front of an arched fence near a pool with lounge chairs and umbrellas. Palm trees and a clear blue sky are in the background.

The Doubloon Lagoon decorations haven’t changed. Guests are greeted by a larger-than-life jester figure. The pool also features Scales, a 51-foot-long sea serpent slide.

An outdoor pool area with turquoise lounge chairs and several large sea creature sculptures. Some people are seated and swimming under a clear blue sky. Palm trees surround the pool.

When we checked on the refurbishment project in February, the pool’s lining had been removed to be replaced. The nearby spa area with a whirlpool was also closed.

Doubloon Lagoon is French Quarter’s only pool. During the closure, shuttle service was available to Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside so guests could enjoy Ol’ Man Island Pool.

A colorful children's water play area with slides and sprayers next to lounge chairs and surrounded by palm trees.

It looks like the flooring of the Aquatic Play Area was refreshed. This water play area is for guests 48 inches and under. It features water slides, fountains, and water cannons.

An outdoor bar with two large umbrellas and several people standing and sitting at the counter in front of an arched building under a clear blue sky.

Construction walls are down from Mardi Grogs.

An outdoor bar with patterned tiles, high metal chairs, and customers. There is a dining area with white umbrellas and a lawn in the background. An AED is mounted on the wall to the right.

The bar features black and white tiles and blue-green trim.

Mardi Grogs serves specialty cocktails, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic drinks.

The bar also has food like wraps, salads, and Mickey-shaped pretzels.
