Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Queue to Feature Nods to U.S. Military Service and Veterans

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will feature a salute to military service, with a storyline inspired by Tiana’s father.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Military Service Storyline

Tiana and her father James in a photo honoring his military service

In “The Princess and the Frog,” Tiana’s father, James was a World War I veteran. That story will continue and expand in the queue of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, which opens at Walt Disney World on June 28, thanks to photos of James that will be found in the queue.

Ted Robledo, executive creative director for Walt Disney Imagineering discussed the inspiration for the art made exclusively for the attraction, which included real-life photos of soldiers who served in 369th Regiment, one of the first African American regiments to serve with the American Expeditionary Forces during World War I. Robledo shared the following:

“We looked for inspiration for how we could best expand on his backstory in a way that honored the military families who visit our parks. In creating these photos for the attraction, we were inspired by real photos of soldiers who served during WWI to ensure we got it right.”

Charita Carter with her father

Another form of inspiration came from Charita Carter, executive creative producer for Walt Disney Imagineering, and project lead. Carter is the daughter of a U.S. Air Force officer, so the story was personal for her. Carter shared:

“Growing up in a military family is a wonderful and challenging experience that we hoped to pay tribute to inside our newest attraction, even if in a small way. In this expanded story, you will see just how much Tiana is proud of her father and his military service. Just like so many of the families who visit us are proud of their military hero. I know I am very proud of my family’s military service, including my father and sister.”

New Screen Added to Epic Universe Preview Center in Universal CityWalk Orlando

Work continues on the Epic Universe preview center in Universal CityWalk Orlando, which takes over the former Universal Legacy Store.

Epic Universe Preview Center

Epic Universe Preview Center under construction is surrounded by scaffolding and a construction fence at CityWalk. A green lift is in use. In the background, there is a pink and blue building with a sign saying "Antojitos.

During a visit to the future site of the Epic Universe Preview Center on May 23, 2024, we noted a new screen being installed above the entrance.

Construction workers on scaffolding work on the facade of the Epic Universe Preview Center under a clear blue sky, with a green telescopic boom lift in the foreground. Nearby, people enjoy a citywalk, observing the bustling activity above.

So far, the screen is made up of just two panels. With crew members actively working while we were there, it is likely more updates are on the way.

A construction site with a partially completed building and a fenced-off area displaying promotional images. A pink building labeled "Antojitos" is visible in the background. Clear, blue sky overhead.

Earlier in the week, the scaffolding behind the screen had been erected and crews installed a large framework. When we last checked on the building, a small metal frame had been added.

A modern grey building under clear blue skies with scaffolding set up on its exterior for construction or maintenance work.

The dark frame is attached to the building but juts out through the scaffolding. Some poles of the frame are thinner than others.

The large black frame with wood slats on the right was already part of the building’s facade.

A large building under construction is covered with scaffolding. Surrounding buildings and signs are visible, with a clear blue sky overhead.

The Universal Legacy Store closed in January. Universal later confirmed an “interactive” Epic Universe preview center was coming to CityWalk this year. The new theme park is scheduled to open in 2025.

Outdoor area with scattered trees and tall, unique light structures under a clear blue sky. Few people are walking and signs in the distance are partially visible.

Meanwhile, across from the preview center, construction walls now block the bench seating facing the lagoon stage. The amphitheater is completely closed for the time being.

A construction fence with two signs reads "Please pardon our dust" on a sunny day, with palm trees in the background and clear blue sky.

Signs on the walls read “Please Pardon Our Dust.” They stretch between two kiosks on either side of the seating area.

There is also construction ongoing at the former Cinnabon and Quiet Flight Surf Shop locations.

Decorative Panels Removed From Prince Charming Regal Carrousel as Refurbishment Continues

A different set of horses has been roped off for floor work on Prince Charming Regal Carrousel in Magic Kingdom, and many of the decorative panels in the ride’s central column have been removed.

A carousel with some horses covered by blue tarps and some uncovered horses. The platform is surrounded by a rope barrier.

Crews have been roping off ten horses — two rows of five — at a time. The floor beneath these horses is being cleaned and stained. Half of the floor under the currently unavailable horses is its final dark brown, while the other half has a natural wood color.

The horses at the ends of the rows are covered in tarps to protect them from work happening on the entablature above. The ride remains open during the refurbishment.

The center column of the carousel features mirrors and large red panels featuring a diamond pattern.

A carousel with several people riding ornate horses is pictured behind a bed of pink flowers. A sign labeled "Stroller Parking" is visible in the foreground.

All but one of the diamond-pattern panels have been removed or painted over for a fresh start. The mirrors and lights around them are still in place.

The empty spaces on the Prince Charming Regal Carrousel are currently beige.

Some elements have also been removed from the columns between each panel. These curved columns usually feature light purple backgrounds and gold details.

The entablature above the horses is being repainted. During the work, some sections are covered with a themed tarp.

Some sections have been stripped of all color but gold. The relief sculptures feature angelic figures with flags and eagles, leftover from when the attraction was The Liberty Carousel over 100 years ago. These friezes are usually painted pink, purple, and blue.

The figures between the images of the Fairy Godmother and Cinderella’s horses have been repainted. There is still work left to be done along the sculpture’s edges.

Other sections have significantly more paintwork done. The images from “Cinderella,” added when The Walt Disney Company acquired the carousel in the 1960s, are framed in gold foil.
