Firefly Lighting Effect Testing at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Magic Kingdom

A dancing firefly lighting effect was spotted outside of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Magic Kingdom.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Firefly Lighting Effect

A lighting effect meant to mimic the look of fireflies twinkling was being tested on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure during our May 16 visit to Magic Kingdom. The effect was testing on the far right of the salt mound, to the right of the Tiana’s Foods water tower, a little more than halfway up.

The lighting effect can be seen in the above image as white dots to the right of the tree that’s at the center of the image. It is faint during the daylight, and will likely be more impactful once the sun sets. You can watch the lighting in action in our video below:

The lighting effect will appear throughout the attraction, as seen in concept art, and not just in this one location. Disney has hinted that guests will “float down the river under dancing fireflies,” during the attraction. The dancing fireflies will be patrons of the bayou nightclub where Tiana’s critter friends can be seen playing their makeshift instruments.

Fireflies play an important part in the story of “The Princess and the Frog,” in addition to the theming for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. In the 2009 film, we meet Ray, a firefly friend to Tiana, who, like all fireflies in the story, becomes a wishing star. A new firefly character can be seen on the on-ride photo that will be taken of guests while on the attraction. The ride will officially open at Magic Kingdom on June 28, 2024.
