There are a BUNCH of new updates at Disney’s Boardwalk!
There are changes happening constantly around Disney World. Some are large, like a newly re-themed ride that’s opening later this week. However others can be small — things around the resort’s parks and hotels that some visitors might not even notice, and even the most seasoned Disney experts may only clock them after a few moments. Recently, we noticed several updates while strolling Disney’s BoardWalk Resort.
The BoardWalk Inn & Villas, which originally opened in 1996, has long been one of Disney’s most intricately themed, and “explorable” resorts, given the fact that it has a fully-functioning boardwalk area complete with shops and restaurants that are open to the general public in addition to the resort’s guests.
When we arrived recently, we were greeted by new Mickey and Minnie topiaries!
One of the largest updates we noticed — and possibly our favorite — was that this decorative “Crest O’ The Wave” facade work was completed. The gorgeous design captures the seaside charm of northeastern shore architecture of the early 20th century, which fits right into Boardwalk’s overall theme and motif.
Work seems to be continuing at a fevered pace on the construction of the Cake Bake Shop Restaurant and Bakery. The new restaurant promises to be a location where you’ll be able to “find counters lined with handmade cakes that are one-of-a-kind in beauty and taste, attractively displayed on French porcelain platters topped with glass domes.” This restaurant still doesn’t have an official opening date beyond “Coming Soon”, but it seems like work is chugging along at a quick pace.

Down the boardwalk, we have Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs. The construction walls that were previously around this spot came down a while ago, but it hasn’t opened and there doesn’t seem to be anything outwardly hinting that it will open anytime soon. When we asked a Cast Member when it would be opening, they cheekily responded “last October.”
Finally, we made some dining notes that may be of use to you on your next trip:
- BoardWalk Joe’s Marvelous Margarita’s does accept Disney Dining Plan (DDP) snack credits for pretzels, nachos, DOLE Whip, and non-alcoholic smoothies.
- Nearly every item in the Screen Door General Store’s treat case is eligible for snack credits, except candied apples that are heavily decorated or covered in chocolate.
- Packed Main Street Popcorn snacks are also newly eligible for snack credits.
- Martha’s Vineyard accepts neither quick service nor table service DDP credits.
While none of these small changes are headline grabbers in and of themselves, each of them affects the overall guest experience at the BoardWalk, even if you don’t notice at first. Stay tuned to DFB for further updates from across the Walt Disney World Resort.
