Be Prepared for This MAJOR Disney World App Problem Starting June 28th

Are you heading to the Magic Kingdom soon? If so, we need to talk!

Magic Kingdom

At the moment, I’m sure you’re juggling all the plans and preparations for the trip. Plans like which hotel you’ll be staying at and which restaurants you’ll be getting your noms from. Speaking of reservations, there’s a MAJOR issue in the My Disney Experience App that could potentially mess up your plans — especially with Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opening up in a couple of days (and we don’t want any issues for you). Let’s talk about it!

As we said, there’s a major issue with the My Disney Experience App that could seriously mess up your plans for scoring a Virtual Queue. We want you to be prepared so it doesn’t catch you by surprise on your next trip to the Magic Kingdom.

So, what’s the issue. Let’s say you’re all excited to go to the Magic Kingdom and get on the latest rides like Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and TRON Lightcycle / Run. You’ve got your whole squad ready with their own phone to maximize your chances of scoring those VQs. Sounds like a great plan, right? Well, let’s talk about what happened to me and another member of our team!

Virtual Queue

First up, my brother, sister, and I were heading to Magic Kingdom, and I’m the only Annual Passholder among us. On June 14th, I was up at 7 AM sharp, trying to snag a VQ for Tiana’s ride. Meanwhile, at the same time, my brother was doing the same for TRON. And here’s where it all went haywire: Disney’s system didn’t appreciate the fact that we were using multiple phones from the same planning group.

TRON Lightcycle / Run Virtual Queue

What happened next was a mess. The app booted my sister from our group and then completely glitched out. Then, bizarrely, I found myself in the TRON Virtual Queue TWICE, and my sister couldn’t be added back in. It took me having to get her a separate boarding group after I had already joined Tiana’s VQ.

By that point, my brother and I were in TRON Group 18, and she was stuck in Group 79 (what a logistical nightmare, right?). After that, we spoke with a Cast Member, who told us that Disney’s system glitches if multiple phones from the same planning group try to book VQs at the same time (if only we knew that beforehand).

Now, another member of our team also had an issue with the app (ironically on the same day). Let’s go over what happened to them.

The first thing that happened was that two of her friends tried adding her to their party for the 1 PM Tiana’s AP Virtual Queue, without her even knowing. One friend succeeded in getting their party a boarding group, but the second friend received a message saying someone in their party had already been assigned a boarding group. So, they had to remove her before trying again. By that time, the VQ was full for the day.

The regular virtual queue will look similar to this Passholder version.

Next, her friends went to Guest Relations and explained the situation, and the Cast Member was able to help! They managed to get everyone into the same boarding group. So, there’s hope! The moral of the story is that if you run into a similar problem, you’ll definitely want to hit up Guest Relations. They MIGHT be able to help, just remember there’s no guarantee. Your mileage may vary, but it’s worth a shot.

You can find Guest Relations near each park entrance.

The major thing you’ll want to take away from all this is that if you’re planning to book VQs for two different rides using multiple phones, BE CAREFUL! The My Disney Experience app system might glitch out, causing you to lose a ton of time and potentially miss out on your rides.

Keep these tips in mind (hopefully, they’ll help you avoid any headaches):

  • Designate One Person per Ride: Assign ONE person to book each VQ and stick to it. Also, don’t use multiple phones from the same planning group for the same ride.
  • Communicate: Make sure everyone in your group is on the same page to avoid overlapping attempts.
  • Guest Relations: If things go haywire, head to Guest Relations. They MIGHT be able to work some magic but keep your expectations realistic.
