Disney Files New Permit for Construction at Frontier Trading Post in Magic Kingdom

Disney has filed a new construction permit for work on Frontier Trading Post in Magic Kingdom.

Construction Permit Filed for Frontier Trading Post

The stone-faced building with a sign reading "Frontier Trading Post" and several American flags on the roof has reopened. The entrance, now under a wooden canopy adorned with lantern-style lights, warmly invites visitors back.

First found by danlb_2000 on the WDWMagic forums, this permit lists “general construction” as the description of improvement. The project has been assigned to MLC Theming, Inc., a specialty construction company located in the greater Orlando area, which specializes in “scenic painting and aging of structures, fabricating facades, carving rock work, and more,” according to their website.

The permit also includes an expiration date of June 30, 2025, and was filed on June 13, 2024, making the length of the project just over one year.

Frontier Trading Post still lists operating hours through August 19, 2024, which is as far as the Walt Disney World operating calendar currently goes; it is unclear when it will close for general construction to begin and a date has not been announced. The store located in Frontierland offers a variety of merchandise, including ear headbands, hats, MagicBands, and Disney Trading Pins.

The filing comes just a week after it was announced that the Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade located nearby will close permanently later this month to make way for a Disney Vacation Club member-exclusive lounge. The lounge was first announced in January 2024, but the location was not revealed until Disney confirmed the rumors in June that it was indeed the Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade.
