The previous record holder was Pixar’s “Incredibles 2,” which earned $27 million on its first Tuesday. Overall, “Inside Out 2” had the eighth-highest-grossing Tuesday ever and the sixth-highest non-opening Tuesday.

“Inside Out 2” had the biggest opening weekend of the year and the second-biggest animated film opening ever, after the Incredibles sequel. It earned $155 million domestically during its opening weekend while “Incredibles 2” made $182.6.

“Inside Out 2” has made $205.7 million domestically and experts believe it could surpass $500M. It’s made $380M globally so far. “Inside Out” made a total of $356M in the U.S. and Canada and $858.8M globally.

“Incredibles 2” ultimately grossed $608.6M domestically and $1.2B globally.

This is Pixar’s first box office success since “Toy Story 4” in 2019. After a series of films released on Disney+ due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the studio has struggled to recover. The new film’s success may foretell a future with more Pixar sequels.

The movie currently has a 91% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes, making it “certified fresh,” and a 96% audience score.
