The Walt Disney Company could announce Bob Iger’s CEO successor before the end of this year, according to Yahoo Finance.

Next Disney CEO Could Be Announced This Year

Disney CEO Bob Iger, wearing a blue shirt, sits smiling in an office with a large window. Behind him, there is a lamp, shelves, and a Mickey Mouse figurine.

Kevin Mayer, a former CEO candidate and current advisor to Iger, told Yahoo at the Cannes Lions Festival on Tuesday, “I think we may know this year, but [Bob Iger] has two and a half more years. So it wouldn’t surprise me if it is extended a little bit beyond this calendar year into next calendar year.”

Mayer said he has no exact date or insight but said the process “will be very clean and very good this time around.”

“In the not-too-distant future,” Mayer predicted, “he’s going to make it known who a successor is so he has some time to spend with him or her at the helm.”

The four main internal candidates for the position are reportedly Co-Chairman of Disney Entertainment, Dana Walden; Co-Chairman of Disney Entertainment, Alan Bergman; Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products, Josh D’Amaro; and Chairman of ESPN and Sports Content, Jimmy Pitaro.

Walden is thought to be the front-runner. One of the executives Alex Sherman consulted for his annual media predictions thought Walden would be named CEO. Older reports also pointed to Walden or D’Amaro, but Disney could choose an outside candidate instead.

When Iger returned to the Disney CEO position in 2023, his contract was initially good through December 31, 2024. The board later extended it through 2026.
