How Will The Genie+ Changes Work With Tiana’s Bayou Adventure?

Disney recently revealed some HUGE changes coming soon to Genie+, and we’re breaking down what that might mean for your next Disney World trip.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

First up, the name “Genie+” will be going away to be replaced by Lightning Lane Multi-Pass (insert Fifth Element movie reference here…), while the Individual Lightning Lane option will be renamed Lightning Lane Single Pass. Honestly, these names make SO much more sense. But there will be other changes, too. So how will all these changes affect your trip if your priority is getting a ride on Magic Kingdom’s newest attraction, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure?

Okay, let’s back up and figure out exactly what the Lightning Lane Multi-Pass is. This is basically a service you pay for that allows you to bypass standby lines in Disney World and book Lightning Lane access for select rides. As Disney has announced that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will not have a Lightning Lane Single Pass option, it will be one of the rides included with the Multi-Pass.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Magic Kingdom

One of the biggest changes is that you’ll be able to purchase Multi-Pass and make three Lightning Lane reservations in advance of your trip: seven days in advance for Disney World hotel guests and three days in advance for everyone else.  However, the changes also include ride tiers for advance selections (which might sound familiar if you remember Disney World’s old FastPass+ system). Some rides will qualify as tier 1 rides, while others will be tier 2. You’ll be able to get advance Lightning Lane bookings for one tier 1 ride and two tier 2 rides. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is one of five tier 1 rides in Magic Kingdom.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

The other tier 1 rides include Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Jungle Cruise, Peter Pan’s Flight, and Space Mountain. That means if you want to book a Lightning Lane in advance for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, you cannot book an advance Lightning Lane for those four other rides. So you’ll have to decide which tier 1 ride is your priority.

Louis on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

On the day of your visit, though, once you use one advance selection (unlike previously when you had to use all three), you can make another one based on what is still available on the My Disney Experience app. So, yes, it is a lot like the old FastPass+ system except you have to pay for it now. If you do really want to ride Tiana’s Bayou Adventure on your day in Magic Kingdom, we think booking the Lightning Lane in advance could be your best bet, and then book the other tier 1 rides (which will likely have less demand) after you’ve gone through Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

Mama Odie

The new Lightning Lane Multi-Pass and Single Pass will go into effect on July 24th, so if you’re visiting before that, you can just book Tiana’s Bayou Adventure through Genie+ on the day.

Stay tuned to DFB for more.

REVIEW: We’re Revisiting an ICONIC Disney Restaurant To See if It Still Lives Up to the Hype

Is there anything better than Disneyland food?!

Blue Bayou

The correct answer is no! But seriously though, Disneyland food is just a step above the rest and we’ve had some of our favorite treats and eats there. Speaking of eats, we thought we’d head back and check in with one of our favorite spots and see how it’s fairing these days. Let’s grab a bite to eat at Blue Bayou!

If you’ve even been hungry in Disneyland and looked for food that isn’t just the typical corn dogs and pretzels, you’ve probably thought about grabbing a bite at the Blue Bayou Restaurant.

Blue Bayou

You’ll find this restaurant tucked into a corner of Disneyland’s New Orleans Square and it offers Cajun and Creole-inspired cuisine. We love this restaurant and it had been far too long since our last visit, so we knew we had to come in and enjoy some of their eats.

Atmosphere

Guess what? When you dine at Blue Bayou, you get to dine on the shore of a New Orleans bayou! That’s right! Also, it’s not just any bayou. It’s actually one where you can watch boats from Pirates of the Caribbean passing by while you fight your food coma from all the delicious Cajun and Creole foods.

Blue Bayou

The vibes are excellent. It totally has dark, moody lighting that 100% transports you to a New Orleans swamp at night.

Truly a blue bayou!

You’ll find that you’re eating in a courtyard. There are wrought-iron chairs and hanging paper lanterns overhead.

Seating

Pro-tip: If you want the “best” views while you eat, make sure to request a table by the water when you check in. (It’s not guaranteed that they can accommodate, but it doesn’t hurt to ask.)

You can get great views of Pirates of the Caribbean

Now that you can feel the atmosphere, let’s have a look at the menu.

Menu

As we said, there is an entire world of Cajun and Creole-inspired dishes on this menu for you to enjoy. For starters, some of the standouts are the Chicken Gumbo and the Heirloom Tomato & Watermelon Salad.

Blue Bayou menu

You’ll definitely find filling entrées here like a Blackened Ribeye, Oscar-style Filet Mignon, Sustainable Market Fish, Creole Roasted Chicken, and a Pistachio Lemon-Basil Pasta. Also, you’ll find a decent selection of wine, cocktails, beer, and a few non-alcoholic drinks as well.

You’ll find plenty of hearty eats as well as cocktails

For dessert, you can choose from a Crème Brûlée Tart, Chocolate Basque Cheesecake, Petite Sundae, and Assorted Macarons.

Dessert menu

The kids menu at Blue Bayou is pretty straightforward (really not too much to write home about) but sometimes you can’t beat a simple menu for the kiddos.

Kids Menu

Alright, enough reading about food. It’s time to eat!

Eats

Ultimately, we decided to try the Heirloom Tomato and Watermelon Salad as our starter, the Pistachio Lemon-Basil Pasta as our entrée, and the Crème Brûlée Tart as our dessert.

Let’s start with the Heirloom Tomato and Watermelon Salad which is made with Greens, Agave Crema, and Pickled Watermelon Rind & Shallot Vinaigrette and will set you back by $15.

Heirloom Tomato and Watermelon Salad

What we liked most about this was how light and refreshing it was. Everything tasted really fresh especially the tomatoes and greens. The tomatoes were juicy, sweet, and full of flavor. The shallot vinaigrette wasn’t the most special (it just added a tangy and vinegary taste).

Refreshing!

Also, the watermelon didn’t have a whole lot of flavor and there wasn’t much of it in the salad either.

Next, we set our eyes on the Pistachio Lemon-Basil Pasta, which is made with Asparagus, Squash Blossoms, Pea Tendrils, and Cherry Tomatoes in Pistachio-Basil Pesto and will cost you $29.

Pistachio Lemon-Basil Pasta

This dish was simple and tasty. The pasta was cooked perfectly and had hints of basil and light lemon flavor throughout. It was also a generous portion of pasta.

This was a surprising winner!

The pistachio flavor wasn’t the strongest. You could really only taste it if you happened to get a bite that had some of the chopped-up pistachio that was put on top. The cherry tomatoes added a refreshing and sweet flavor to the pasta. Oh how we wish there were more of them!

Last but not least, we had to entertain our sweet tooth with a Crème Brûlée Tart which was Vanilla Bean Crème Brûlée in a Tart Shell and it’ll run you $10.

Crème Brûlée Tart

The berries were sweet and fresh which went well with the rich vanilla bean flavor. The top did have a caramel and burnt sugar taste. The tart shell tasted like shortbread and had a crumbly shortbread texture.

DELICIOUS!

We seriously wished the portion was larger because it was delicious and at $10 we felt a little slighted.

Overall

Overall, we loved our time here. Our server was great (very personable, quick, and helpful). All of our food came out quickly and it was all fresh and well prepared.

Blue Bayou is truly unique

The restaurant’s location and ambiance are some of the best on the property. It’s definitely one of the pricier options at Disneyland, but for the experience and food quality, it’s worth doing at least once.

Nosh or Not?

Stop by Blue Bayou if…

  • You want to get away from the crowds and have a nice and relaxing meal.
  • Celebrating a special occasion and wanting your meal in one of the best-themed restaurants.
  • You’re a Pirates of the Caribbean fan since the boats travel right through the restaurant (also it’s one of the last projects Walt worked on)

You’ll probably want to find another place to dine if…

  • You’re looking to dine on a tighter budget.
  • You want a quick meal.
  • You have little kids and want to take them somewhere with a more substantial kids’ menu.

We’re always looking for all the latest menu changes and additions to restaurants around Disneyland so we can keep you updated. Until then, stay tuned with us at Disney Food Blog for even more!

We Got Stuck On the Disney World Monorail With NO Power 😱 Here’s What Happened

Since we are in the park every day, we have our fair share of stories and experiences. Today was no different as we experienced a rare occurrence while onboard the Resort Monorail.

Monorail

The Disney World Transportation system is extensive and can help you get pretty much anywhere on Disney World Resort property. There are three different monorail lines including the EPCOT Monorail, Express Monorail, and the Resort Monorail.

The Resort Monorail runs in the opposite direction of the Magic Kingdom Express Monorail, and makes stops at the Transportation and Ticket Center, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Magic Kingdom, and Disney’s Contemporary Resort. While we were in the parks today, we hopped on Monorail Coral on the Resort Monorail loop, and much to our surprise we lost power while we were sitting in the Magic Kingdom station! It was sudden and everything turned off, including the AC in the monorail. Good news is that we were still sitting in the station, but bad news is that all the doors were closed and it was a hot day.

Monorail

However, it ended up only lasting for a few minutes and we were told by a Cast Member that it was just a reset while we were sitting in the station. We were surprised that we weren’t told anything, but within a few minutes, everything was back to working and once the new passengers boarded from Magic Kingdom, we were on our way! While it was unexpected, everything was resolved quickly and we got back to our day. We are letting you know about our experience to encourage you not to panic when things go a bit off course at Disney World. If you happen to be on a monorail when it loses power, know that it may just be a reset and it should be back up and running soon. It would have been easy to jump to the worst scenario that we would be stuck on this monorail forever in the heat. However, Cast Members were on the platform and aware of the situation.

We lost power!

You will probably run into at least a few moments of surprise while you are at Disney World. It could be your monorail losing power, or your favorite ride being temporarily closed. Try your best not to let these surprises ruin your day. Let them happen and then you can always store them up as a story to entertain others. Disney World transportation can get a bit confusing. Where exactly does the monorail go? And what’s the best way to get to your destination? If you are feeling a bit overwhelmed, have no fear! We are here to help and we are sharing 22 secrets to getting around Disney World:

You never know what may happen during your Disney World trip, but we are help to make sure you stay up to date and have all the best tips and tricks for your Disney World vacation. Stay tuned to DFB for more Disney World news!
