Construction Walls Return to Canada Pavilion in EPCOT

The upper level of the Canada Pavilion in EPCOT is blocked by construction walls again. The space was previously closed from June 2023 to February 2024 for the Hotel du Canada façade refurbishment.

An outdoor area featuring large totem poles, a building with a green roof resembling a chateau, and a partly cloudy sky.

The walls are back in front of the stairs that lead up to the fake hotel. They run between the Trading Post and a totem pole across the sidewalk.

People stand outside a Trading Post building with indigenous artwork. A construction barrier is positioned beside the store. In the background, a stone castle-like structure is visible.

We don’t know why construction walls are back. It’s possible Disney is preparing to reopen La Boutique des Provinces space. The shop was housed in the hotel but hasn’t opened for years.

Other than the closed gift shop, the upper plaza of the pavilion doesn’t offer much except a pretty view. Some of the stairs and walkways near Canada Far and Wide are still open for exploring.

BREAKING: Disney Confirms New Lightning Lane Rule CHANGE for Canadian Visitors

There are some BIG changes coming to the Lightning Lane system in Disney World. Just got used to Genie+, Disney’s paid skip-the-line service? Well, it’s about to change.

New Lightning Lane changes are coming

We’ve been learning everything we can about these changes so that we can answer your biggest questions about the updates. As part of the new Lightning Lane Multi Pass (formerly Genie+) overhaul, a new, tiered system will be introduced for attractions. We’re still learning all the details, but so far, it sounds like the new Lightning Lane passes will give people the chance to make better plans ahead of their trip. But, there’s been one major problem.

Starting July 24th, Genie+ will be known as Lightning Lane Multi-Pass, and Individual Lightning Lanes will be called Lightning Lane Single Pass. Disney has announced that beginning July 24th, you can:

  • Make Lightning Lane plans before you get to the parks
  • Choose your experiences and times before purchasing
  • Book Lightning Lane passes for multiple vacation days, all in a single day

So far, we know that Disney World hotel guests (and guests of other select hotels) will be able to plan Lightning Lane passes up to seven days in advance for their entire stay (up to 14 days). All other guests can plan up to three days in advance. And, at first, Disney included the caveat that you must be in the United States to purchase Lightning Lane passes and book them before your vacation.

When we recently asked a Disney World Cast Member, we were told, “Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass features will be available to Guests from other countries, they will be able to begin their pre-arrival planning on the My Disney Experience Mobile App after they reach the United States.

Lightning Lane

This meant that international visitors could not purchase Lightning Lane passes or take advantage of the preplanning until they arrived in the United States, even if the 7-day planning window began before that. Naturally, many of our readers were NOT happy about this news.

Lightning Lane

Well, as of June 28th, Cast Members confirmed that Canadian visitors may continue to use the My Disney Experience app “after the launch of the pre-arrival purchasing and planning for Lightning Lane passes.” Translation: Both those in the U.S. AND Canada can plan their Lightning Lanes ahead of time with the My Disney Experience app.

Keep in mind that we’re still waiting for more details about the new Lightning Lane Multi-Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass, and it’s very possible this could change in the future. We’re predicting some bugs and other small issues when the new system launches. We’re still hoping that Disney will update the rules so that our international readers are able to take advantage of the early planning, too!

As mentioned earlier, Disney will be (re)introducing a tiered system for Multi Pass rides. When preplanning those first three selections, you can choose one experience from a higher-tiered group and two experiences (or all three) from a lower-tiered group.

Things keep changing, so we will continue to share all the latest updates on these new Lightning Lane changes. Stay tuned to Disney Food Blog for more!

The Big PROBLEM You May Have With Magic Kingdom Virtual Queues Starting NOW

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is officially OPEN in Magic Kingdom!

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

This is super exciting, but it also means that now there are TWO attractions with Virtual Queues in Magic Kingdom — Tiana’s and TRON Lightcycle / Run. Wondering how in the world that works? Yeah, so are we, which is why we set out to figure out IF we could book BOTH!

WAIT, hang on, before we start this post, we have to get you updated with the NEW Genie+ terminology that Disney just recently released. These changes won’t be starting until July 24th, but we want to get you familiar with the new terminology. Regular Genie+/Lightning Lanes is now called Lightning Lane Multi-Pass. Individual Lightning Lanes are now called Lighting Lane Single Pass.

Okay, now we can continue!

Both of these highly sought after attractions do not have regular standby queues at this time. TRON and Tiana’s both have a free Virtual Queue that opens at 7AM and 1PM each day, and the second option for TRON is an Individual Lighting Lane (Lightning Lane Single Pass) (separate from regular Genie+/Lightning Lane Multi-Pass).

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

However, the second option for Tiana’s is included in regular Genie+ (Lighting Lane Multi-Pass), which is where things get a little tricky. You can buy Genie+ (Lightning Lane Multi-Pass) starting at midnight the day of your day in the park, but you won’t be able to make your first selection until 7AM, which is also when Virtual Queues open.

TRON Lightcycle / Run

So, on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure’s opening day, we tried our best to get virtual queues for both the new attraction as well as TRON Lightcycle / Run, and the news we have to report isn’t great. After all our efforts today, we were unable to even try for a TRON virtual queue while holding a Tiana’s VQ spot, as the My Disney Experience App indicated we were ineligible.

We even spoke with several Cast Members who confirmed to us that — at this time — they did not think it was within the rules to hold two virtual queue spots for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Tron Lightcycle / Run at the same time.

TRON

Note that Disney previously shared that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will not use a virtual queue forever — we expect the ride to use a standby line in the future. But, for now, you may have to choose between joining the virtual queue for TRON or Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

That said, some people are theorizing that you may be able to get a virtual queue for one ride at 7AM, ride it, and then secure the OTHER virtual queue at the 1PM drop, though we still cannot confirm if this would work in practice. Plus, it would be challenging to time things correctly! For now, it seems like the best option is to try and get the free virtual queue for one ride and pay for a Lightning Lane reservation for the other. Note that, as we said, TRON uses that Individual Lightning Lane (Lightning Lane Single Pass), and Tiana’s is part of the Genie+ (Lightning Lane Multi-Pass) lineup.

Are you ready to ride?

We’ll be here to keep you updated on all the latest changes with Virtual Queues and Genie+ as it prepares to change on July 24th, so stay tuned to DFB!
