REVIEW: ‘Encanto’-Inspired Arepas, Coconut Tres Leches, and Passion Fruit Drinks at CommuniCore in EPCOT

In honor of “¡Celebración Encanto!” at CommuniCore Plaza, now open in EPCOT, the new Festival Favorites quick-service location has “Encanto”-inspired food and beverages. These are updated versions of former La Isla Fresca menu items available during the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival.

‘Encanto’-Inspired Festival Favorites

Entrance to EPCOT's "Festival Favorites" dining area with a glass façade and geometric-patterned overhang. Black stanchions line the pathway, welcoming you to an inviting CommuniCore Plaza experience.

Festival Favorites is located on the side of CommuniCore Hall, next to CommuniCore Plaza.

Cheese-Stuffed Arepa with Cilantro-Lime Crema and Cotija – $5.25

A hand holds a square white plate with an Encanto-inspired topped tortilla garnished with crumbled cheese, a drizzle of sauce, and a lime wedge. The background shows greenery.

Our reporter trying this doesn’t like cilantro but thankfully, didn’t taste any cilantro. It tastes like a grilled cheese but with pancakes for bread. It’s not too soft.

A person is holding a plate with a slice of layered yellow cake, reminiscent of coconut tres leches, topped with crumbled cheese and a lime wedge on the side.

It’s nothing fancy. It has a good portion size. It will definitely fill you up or you could share it with a friend. We recommend it for breakfast.

Cheese-stuffed Arepa with Chicken and Avocado – $6.50

A hand holding a white compostable tray with an arepa containing green filling and a slice of lime on the side, wrapped in a white paper napkin, reminiscent of the vibrant flavors found at EPCOT.

We loved this arepa. The stuffing tasted like that of a dumpling. It has lots of green onion flavor. There’s a big piece of chicken. We didn’t taste much avocado but it was present.

A fork holding a small piece of bread topped with avocado and other ingredients against a neutral background, reminiscent of Encanto-inspired arepas.

It’s also big and shareable. We couldn’t finish it.

Coconut Tres Leches – $5

Vanilla cake soaked with oat, almond, and coconut milks topped with toasted coconut (Plant-based)

A hand holding a small black plate with a coconut tres leches dessert topped with toasted coconut flakes, placed over a white paper plate, with greenery in the background.

We didn’t taste coconut in this at all. It’s just a soggy cupcake with a giant swirl of whipped cream.

A hand holding a dessert cup with a spoonful taken out, revealing layers of coconut tres leches cake topped with whipped cream and toasted coconut flakes.

The version at EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival has more flavor but this was plain. It’s a downgrade from the festival.

Coconut-Passion Fruit Smoothie (Non-alcoholic) – $5

A hand holding a plastic cup filled with a yellowish, frothy drink, with grass visible in the background, evoking festive vibes reminiscent of EPCOT's vibrant atmosphere.

This tastes like a non-alcoholic piña colada. It’s nothing fancy but we would rather get a Wawa smoothie. $5 is too much for what this is.

Passion Fruit Daiquiri – $14.50

A hand holding a clear plastic cup filled with orange juice, garnished with a lime slice and reminiscent of Passion Fruit Drinks, against a background of green foliage.

This tastes like POG juice with alcohol in it. It’s sweet and tastes like a frozen slushy. But it will melt instantly in the current Florida heat.
